Look... we needed Gruden

So vandy has two decent seasons in its miserable existence and they are the talk of college football, C'om on MAN !

I don't know about them being the talk of college football, that may be a little much. However there is no doubt that they are far more relevant and being talked about more than the Vols, which is highly embarrassing.

I wanted grud or any other home run hire.. thought Charlie strong would have been OK. We have bj boy n he has to prove he is worthy no doubt...

It drives me crazy when vols fans say I love this staff because they want to be here.. wtf u double my salary n give me a nice buyout if I fail n I will love any place.. point being cdd talked the same crap about loving tenn n the staff Etc.. n the min he realized the sec isn't for the weak... he wanted out...

Now the question will be what will cbj n his staff do when the r toasted by fans.. media..boosters because they got out coached by a Kent vandy or miss... if he loses any of those games god help him...lol:rock:
Glass half full party pooper any?

jon grude flies around the country staying at 5* hotels, dining on the best food, and sitting around wearing $1k suits rendering his opinion. Now why in hell would he give that up for the pressure cooker that is college football (?)!

The reason Vandy is being talked about in some circles is because, in relation to their being the most inept/incompetent/irrelevant/ridiculous excuse of a program, what they're doing now looks newsworthy. However, they still suck and what they're doing right now is an absolute smokescreen. They are not remotely relevant to anything and they'll come crashing back to earth - although they're barely off the damn ground- very soon. Book it!

It's really sad that all you have to do is sit around a think of crap to write. You are either in or out. In 3 years when we are BUTCH SLAPPING the conference what are you gonna complain about?

Might as well get over Gruden. His old NFL staff has been assembled with the Dallas Cowboys and he will take the reigns after Garrett falls on his face this year. At least that is what they are saying on the Internet boards here in Dallas, so I believe it!

Volnation, I really like Butch Jones. Dooley turned me off almost as soon as he arrived on campus. While the majority of you were praising "Showergate," and "Looking for Rommel" and "pick up the phone and call me" I was telling you that Dooley was auditioning for a TV gig as our head coach. And I didn't like it. And that's exactly what he did.

Butch was always behind the 8-ball. He actually walked into a worse situation than Dooley (which is saying something in a big way). He almost created his next problem. He did what he had to do - he went after elite talent. Problem is, he didn't land the elite talent. I've said for awhile this 2013 class would define his tenure. He swung for the fences (which makes me like him), but he didn't connect. Strike.

Daj is absolutely right - it starts with talent. That's why we needed Gruden so bad, and the CryptKeeper and Booger dropped the ball. I said at the time Hart still had the power to screw the pooch. He did. Ego. BMOC. Hart couldn't handle Gruden being Big Man on Campus. And it will haunt us for a decade.

CBJ still has a chance. He has to lean on our offensive line. He has to restore confidence to the defense. He has to go +2 in the talent column, and that is his record. I fear though he was +2 in the Big East, but the SEC is the best of best. Second tier these days is Steve Spurrier. Let that sink in. Even Muschamp is proving he is worthy of the league. Franklin has the nation talking about Vandy --- VANDY!

Folks, we needed Gruden. It wasn't a pipe dream, but we had to roll out the red carpet, absolutely. The CryptKeeper failed. We've got to hope Coach Butch Jones is +2. I want him to be +2. He's still got a chance, but he's got to take some big scalps 2013.
So you hinge Coach Jones's future success on a recruiting class that he had 31 days to secure???? Unreal....just unreal. I think you should reevaluate, and put much more weight on the 2014 class. I think he will prove to be a pleasant surprise to most. Gruden's much more productive analyzing games than building a program. Sometimes the "juice" just isn't worth the "squeeze"!!! Go Big Orange!!! No pun intended! Lol

Gruden would have been awesome, but it didn't happen so just get over it. From what I've seen so far, I think ***** will do great things this year in recruiting. Hopefully he can coach as good as a lot of people think he can.

We got a Big East coach who has never beaten a ranked team. What's your point? And I bet he could've gotten Bell. And Lawson. And Levenberry. And more.

If CBJ had more than 31 days to mend the broken relationships and get UT back on these guy's minds, I think they would have been Vols. CDD burned the bridges and CBJ had to try to rebuild them. We'll never truly know. Still nothing wrong with some speculation though.

Butch's team lost three games this year by a total of 16 points. They beat about 8 teams that went to bowl games. So they took care of business when they were supposed to. When is the last time we did that in the past 2 years.... yeah only with the absolute patsies. We will be better this year. Watch.

It's amazing how so many people are able to know for certain what would happen had we gotten a .500 NFL coach. It's absolutely amazing.

I'm going to take a note from OUR COACH on this one. Rather than talk about the guys that didn't want to be Vols (Vonn Bell, Jon Gruden), I want to talk about the guys that DO want to be Vols (Butch Jones and his entire 2013 class).

How can you even begin to say we didn't land elite talent? Is the 2nd best receiver in the country not elite? How many people are calling Dobbs an enormous diamond in the rough? How many schools thought the 3-star Johnny Manziel elite?

Stop living life through the rearview mirror. Get behind your coach and stop making completely unverifiable claims like we would've landed "elite" talent had we hired a MNF analyst who is on a 5-year coaching hiatus.

Very well said. Im very excited about Dobbs. And even that 2* Volleyball player playing TE. Seems to me a very top notch NFL TE only played one year of college football. Possibly another diamond in the rough. Hell Dobbs is not only ranked top 4 dual threat, the kid is brilliant and wants to be an aeronautical engineer. VFL. Our fan base can be so ignorant. I really thought these Gruden threads would die out. I was wrong.

Maybe Gruden can't coach a lick. Doesn't matter (he can coach, btw).

Gruden would put THE FEAR into Saban because recruits would come to him like the flock to the shepherd. And as Daj has demonstrated: it's talent. It's talent first.

Where is your proof kids would flock to Gruden? And if he did sway them he would be the same ole "care about myself more than anybody else" Gruden we experienced here in Tampa with the Bucs. Many players did not like him. He never developed a QB here. Discipline was out of control and BTW he was fired. Seems we had our experience with a selfish Lame Kiffy. Not the right eadership qualities for VFL.

yes because his .500 NFL record and firing from the NFL proved it. Get over your man crush.

What you've just said ... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul...
