Lunardi's latest: Vols one of last four in

We coud lose to Mizzou and maybe still make it with help but I don't think it matters because I think we drop a game at A&M Or Miss State. I stick with my gut from earlier this season and believe we won't be dancing. Even if we do, does it really matter? We'd be a higher seed that gets our lunch eaten by a much better team with much better coaching because we'd likely be playing a very tough team opening up. I hope the Vols make it but I highly doubt it happens.

If we lose to Mizzou, it's all over but the crying.

RPI of 53 right now.

Lose one more and you'll likely finish with an RPI of 46 which will leaves you sweating it out on Selection Sunday (barring what happens in the SECT).

Two more and you're out. RPi of 56 with no positive resume areas to hang your hat on.

Luckily, every game except the Mizzou game should be a walk.

IMO, it's been over for a couple of months. This team has poor coaching and is far too inconsistent but that's the most optimistic I can be by looking at whos on the bubble, where we stand and what mizzou can do. I don't see a chance in dancing.

Very valid argument.

What is even more anger inducing is that if this team were to skate in the back door of the dance, there's no chance we make any noise once there. We've lowered standards at UT yet again. Mediocrity abounds here.

RPI watching is worthless.

This team can't take any game for granted.

Hubbs said tonight if we lose one more game that we would have a hard time making the tourney.

Hubbs also said he was sure Barton was headed to A&M and that we weren't a serious contender.

Point being, I don't pay attention to Hubbs when it comes to bball.

We can still make the tournament with one more loss. We'd have to win in the SEC tournament. But we'd be right on the bubble.

Win out plus 1 in the SEC T and we're easily in IMO

Idk how you would have OSU out but us in. Their RPI is higher (42), they have 3 wins against teams 33 or higher. They have a better record than us (16-9) and a SOS of 15. They have 1 loss to a team below 49 (at 101 Texas Tech). Out of their remaining 6 games, 4 of them are top 50, including 1 Kansas and at 9 Iowa State.

If they are out, we have no shot.

I have them assumed out, if that makes sense. They're 4-8 in conference, have been horrible lately, and have 2 possible more losses coming with no smart.

They're trending down rapidly is maybe a better word/phrase, as of now they're still in, but I don't see that sticking.

yeah, right now it looks like they'll be right on the bubble. however, w Smart, they could still turn it around and have a shot at winning their conference tournament.

The tough part about projecting SECT is we have no clue on seeding or who we'd draw. Say we go 5-1, RPI is around 45, we get a 1st round bye...we draw Missouri/LSU/ Ole Miss in our opening game, a loss to any of those teams being on a neutral court would drop our RPI but 1-2 spots max. So that's says going into selection Sunday a RPI of better than 50, not sure a high major has ever been left out of the field of 68 with a RPI better than 50.

On the flip side, you draw an auburn or South Carolina and lose, then it would cripple you at that point of the season and likely have us on the wrong side.

Yup.

And something I don't agree with, but Lunardi said will be done, if Smart comes back and they go on a run...the committee will take that Into consideration like they do injuries. Injuries are one thing and something you can't help, suspension of a player is that players/teams fault and they should be penalized for that.

The Hump and Auburn are maybe's.....but A&M...not so sure.

Lunardi and Jerry Palm don't quite agree on this. In his interview last week, I am pretty sure that he said the committee doesn't emphasize that as much anymore. He insinuated that it could be considered, but you have to look at your body of work, and they can't assume that they would have won those games with Smart. OSU was on a 4 game losing streak with Smart.
