Martin, Golden, and Motivation

I have never suggested that martin should be fired or isn't going to be a successful coach here. Only pointing out that his use of bench to get his teaching point across has cost us games. IMO martin must evolve into a coach that get his coaching points across in other more effective ways. We can't win without golden on the floor.

Give one example of a game that has been lost by CCM because he benched a player.

Any of the games that golden didn't start but played are in this discussion. If golden is physically able to play there is never a reason he shouldn't start unless its a suspension for discipline which didn't happen.

He played better off the bench, and seeing as how he has/had a hamstring and shoulder injury, the rest may have done him some good. It certainly appears that way given his last two games after not playing as much.

I personally love the benching. I can't remember what game it was, but I loved watching Martin sub players every dead ball when they messed up defensively. Some guys were in for 45 secs and then immediately pulled.

I certainly have no issue benching players in certain situations. However there is a time to show a kid you believe in their skills by putting supreme confidence in them. Golden needs that IMO. He is a fragile minded player that needs a vote of confidence when times are bad instead of a spot on the pine.

So you don't have any specific games but you know that it was a mistake to do it? Right :eek:k: Golden has played starter minutes in every game that UT has lost this year other than the 2 1/2 games he missed due hamstring injury. Last year Golden rarely left the floor except for foul trouble or a blow out.

So again, give me a specific game which UT lost because Martin benched Golden...or heck any player for other than discipline reasons (like Hall last year).

Also, there have been at least 2 teams UT has played this year where the opponent benched one of their key players to start the game. 1) Jackson from Memphis 2) Young from Arkansas. They both responded well.

Where does this come from? And it's based on what?

It's all opinion

Inconsistency in his play isn't as much of a physical thing as some in here think. Him not being in the starting lineup crushed his fragile mindset imo causing more lengthy valleys in his play.

More assumptions with no basis. Like I said in my previous post you ignored, he could have been having off the court issues, or his shoulder could have been hampering his play a lot more than his hamstring is now.

I'll ask again because you didn't answer it earlier...what game(s) can you point to this year and say that if martin wouldn't have benched golden we'd have definitely won?

How dare you use facts, or ACTUAL EXAMPLES.

Considering Golden's production fell off before he got benched this logic seems flawed.

It's obvious you have stated a position and are going to defend it despite all the evidence to the contrary. I see no reason to keep wasting my time arguing with you about it.:salute:

I think most of them broke due to overuse during football season and the subsequent coaching hire.

Did I ever mention that I'm soooo f***ing sick of college football? I wish it would never start again.

BASKETBALL 24/7 WOOOOOOO!!!

I am guardedly optimistic for this coming season. If nothing else people will have someone new to complain about on the sidelines this year. Besides, if it weren't for college football, who would pay the bills?

Considering we are almost 2 years into the martin era the biggest thing that jumps out to me is how he uses the bench to motivate players.

Don't get me wrong I think playing time has to be used in certain situations but IMO martin is too extreme in this area. Golden has proven himself as a quality winning player and martins benching of him both years cost us precious games IMO.

It is my hope that martin can find another way to motivate key players than benching them for long periods of time and costing us precious wins that could lead a NCAA tourney at large birth.

what do you suggest? time out and have him sit in the corner?what he's been doing seems to be working, both times golden has come back strong

I took a lot if heat for suggesting golden was a fragile minded player.

Anybody catch what Martin just said in his Monday presser on the subject???
