You bet? Have you even watched UT basketball in the past few years? I'm glad you're supporting Martin. I like him too, but there's no need to act like Pearl wasn't a phenomenal coach here at UT that created a good basketball program to give fans something to cheer about when football was down. His one mistake doesn't diminish all the great things he did for this program.

I just looked at that roster and i see alot of 4 and 5 star players on it.Hopson 5 star Chism 4 star Maze 4 star Woolridge 4star Prince 4star .Pretty talented without Smith,Tatum,and Williams

When he turned into a better coach than Tony Barbee. Who is it Richt that has the clause to be the highest paid coach? So even if he does nothing if a coach gets a raise above him he gets a raise too...it's market value I don't know how many other ways to say it.

Look at what Ray and Jones are making, less than Zo and that's where they should be. Barbee is getting more than Zo, so for his agent to see that that's ammunition. Zo has been better than Barbee at auburn, and Zo has brought a lot more money to UT than Barbee has to auburn.

Once again not saying I agree 100% that he should get one, but playing devils advocate that's what his agent is looking at I'm sure.

Coach 1... 35-39 overall, 12-38 in conference, 0 postseason appearances

Coach 2... 39-29 overall, 21-13 in conference, 2 NIT appearances

Who deserves the higher pay?

I agree its ammunition and it might be effective based on what you've said with Barbee's salary. Who knows with this AD anymore.

Where I'm coming from is I just can't see rewarding anyone who hasn't made much of an impact in the 'W' column at all. Yeah he's beat the hell out of Florida and he gave UK one of their worse losses ever, but his teams have taken terrible losses as well. IMO, all hes managed to do so far is avoid complete failure. Nothing more, nothing less.

I am very hopeful about Coach Martin's future success, but to think that at this point a raise or extension is warranted is a bit absurd. I don't believe that he is yet a hot commodity or a serious candidate for any other coaching jobs - at least, I haven't heard that he is. That would be the only reason to give Coach Martin a raise or extension: to keep him in Knoxville as another school tries to hire him away from us. Right now, unless I am missing something, that isn't happening. Once he has a top 25 team and a NCAA Tournament berth under his belt, the discussions about such things can start. As of now, not so much.

It will be very interesting to see what Hart does with Martin. I think he's here next year and the year after. The Vols will be better next year than at any time of Martin's tenure so they'll make the big dance next year. This will buy him 2014/15 and 2015/16.

The 2014/15 season will write Cuonzo's story here at UT. He will basically have his own roster and and have no one to blame the season on (not that I am saying is placing blame now). He'll either take all the credit or all the blame.

As to my opinion on a raise or extension, I would bump his pay but not extend the contract. That tells him basically we like the job you're doing but we're not quite there yet.

Another thing to consider is , who else would hire him right now? My contention is no program that is a better job than TN would try and hire him away. JMO though.

Best way to get an extension is to recruit some better talent here to the campus. He is limited today by the slugs out on the floor. We need a much better starting 5 that can shoot, pass, rebound, and play some D. Too many holes in the club to further throw years and $$$ at CM.

NYET! Remind me again how much the AD is in Deficit? SMH. Get in the tourney and win a couple; and bring some $ IN! Or maybe even win 2-3 in the Not Interested Tournament.

He is just a typical employee. Has average performance but in his mind he is an a player on the team when in reality he was a c player this year.

Give him a c raise n no extension. Imo

Hyams has also said on the Sport Source that if UT is not in the NCAA tourney next year that in his opinion he should be fired.

CCM is going into next season having to get to the tourney. All the media is saying it. It's all over the forums. UT season ticket holders will drop like crazy the following year with it being a rebuilding year if we do not make it to a tourney this coming year.

The writing is on the wall. CCM is on the hot seat. He does not have to be told or it does not have to be spelled out by the AD that he is safe. The last thing you want is the AD having to tell you that you are safe. If he says that, then there is a reason.

I think he deserves a small good faith raise, It does seem that he is recruiting a lot better, no extension however....
