They claimed funds going to NOAA was not going to be used to update forecasting technology but to promote climate change. They tried to vote down for what they deemed excessive spending on stuff like this...What did they try and tie to Sandy?
Why not stand alone aid packages? They claimed funds going to NOAA was not going to be used to update forecasting technology but to promote climate change. They tried to vote down for what they deemed excessive spending on stuff like this...
Real reason they tried to vote down - Sandy hit D areas
Ultimately the Ds put some pork in there for some of the Rs and got it through..
Why not stand alone aid packages?
Why include NOAA funding in a bill for Sandy?
Why include Ukraine funding in a bill for Hawaii?
What was the NOAA funding really for?
How much was it? The .0001 of the cost?Supposedly, it was to update the GFS forecasting tool they use since it underperformed plus damage to hurricane planes.
I'm not oblivious to the fact that NOAA under Obama leaned left. I'm not oblivious that this was .0001 of the cost and a strawman argument to vote down since it impacted D states..
48 million / 50 billion = .0001How much was it? The .0001 of the cost?
What was in the 2017 NOAA funding that the R’s wanted?
Yea that looks pretty petty if the full balance was headed to helping those in need.48 million / 50 billion = .0001
The Act provides $48 million in supplemental funding to the agency’s FY13 budget for Sandy recovery efforts and to improve response and recovery capability for future weather events. The funding will allow the National Weather Service to make critical improvements in high-speed computing, higher resolution weather prediction models and key observation systems, among other projects that will improve the agency’s support to local communities for extreme weather events.
Yea that looks pretty petty if the full balance was headed to helping those in need.
So again, why endanger a $50B aid package with a $48M rider?
Stand-alone aid packages. No strings. No riders.
Yea $48M isn’t much to write home about. The NOAA stuff wasn't that bad. It's funding request was at least tangential to the disaster.
Tying disaater relief to debt ceiling negotiations and Ukraine is wrong.
My main point is it's hypocritical for Rs to call out Ds for tying it to Ukraine when they've tied funding to non disaster stuff in the past...

So the Ds tied Sandy funding to funding for NOAA?
