Maybe the problem isn't with Jay Graham, Tee Martin, Vonn Bell...

Makes one wonder if that was the issue with some of the RB's that we were after but couldn't sign

Well I think that the main problem w recruiting a premier RB is due to the system that CBJ uses on offense. Most preeminent RB's want to play within a pro-style offense.

Not trying to confuse you or interrupt your whining... but Jones hasn't been a part of UT's losing. For that matter... Graham was.

I understand the emotional attachment to Graham but the "best recruiter" stuff seems to be a bit overblown. Graham was UT's RB coach. Remind me which highly rated RB UT was in on signed with the Vols...

Maybe behind all of this... the reason UT didn't match the offer is that Graham didn't actually pull those recruits.

he didn't pull in any rb's, but north came to tennessee because of graham

wow....

can you tell me another coach that has taken a 60 is class to #20 in 31 recruiting days ? It seems to be an accomplishment

I am not even speculating as to if he will be a successful coach ...but cannot resist point out the outlandishness of your post. Do you even realize what you just said?

we were outrecruited by vandy, enough said.

There's a difference between guys like Champy and the rest of us "wait and see" fans.

He's looking for a "wow" factor... to have his fancy tickled.

I am looking for a "win" factor... W's when it counts.

Can't remember what Champy thought of Kiffin but many posters like him felt that "tingle" up their leg when he came in with his "wow" factor. His net result was a failed 09 recruiting class, a 7-6 season, and an embarrassing betrayal of the program that pulled him out of the gutter.

your right i'm looking for a guy that is going to come in and bring alot of excitement. i'll admit i was wrong on kiffin. at the time i thought it was a great hire and i still think if he hadn't have given us the shaft it would have worked out. looking back on it was a horrible hire.

if you're honest about it then that has very little to do with CBJ. You said you follow recruiting and then post this tripe?

no i don't put it all on jones. some i do though. like i said before jones talked alot about his staff and recruiting and it didn't amount to much. like i said before he reminds me of kiffin with out the flash. if you are gonna talk you have to produce, in my opinion he hasn't. not saying that he is a bum coach. he could come out this season and tear it up and have a top 10 recruiting class. i wouldn't bet on it, but who thought kiffin would give us the shaft the way he did. i still don't see all the reason for the excitement around the program though, and no i'm not blaming jones for that it is the way it is right now in knoxville. i'm still really bummed our second best recruiter is gone though and he was a tennessee alum.

Bag on the guy that had a month to recruit then call the guy that was actually here the whole time and was disappointing (at the very least) a great recruiter. Brilliant.

Some people would b*tch if you hung em with a new rope. At least give CBJ a day of practice before you start calling for him to be fired. Geez. Highly illogical.

not ripping on him. i know dooley hurt us with alot of recruits while most on this board were behind him. all i'm saying is that jones is not off to an impressive start and i wish he wouldn't talk as much. i do think he better replace jay with a great recruiter or it will hurt us next year.

I find it difficult to believe that people can not just wish Jay well and move on. Situation like UT being in a fiscal crisis along with perennial losing as of late could well define Jay leaving. Job performance, elevation in salary, Butch Jones personality, geography whatever...we can only speculate as to the reason but in the end that is all it is. Good luck to the Vols most importantly but good luck to Jay as I hope he flourishes.

To all the naysayers, yes we all have been burned twice over but this guy at least deserves a shot at winning some on the field before he is labeled a failure.

Give it a rest, Butch could go 1-7 in the SEC next year and most people on here will start the "he inherited a train wreck" threads.

i did not say he is a failure, i just said he is running his mouth with little results. do i think he will fail thats a different story, all i can say is i hope he proves me wrong.

I hate to get in the middle of this, but should he not speak until after they play some games? If he should speak, what should he say? How about this, it might inspire some people: "We sucked under Dooley because he was a horses rear end that couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. I know I'm not Gruden, but maybe we will win a game or two this year. I hope so anyway. Now please, no more questions until the season so I don't have to upset any negative vol fans on chat boards."

no i just don't like stupid statements like best staff in the country and changed attitude. talk is talk show it. to me it is just garbage talk untill you prove it. you don't usually hear big time coaches talk like this. it sounds like kiffin honestly. also this is just my opinion some people love to hear a coach talk like this.

I really want to jump on the Butch train but so far I'm having a hard time justifying the ticket.

1- Staff will have an orange flavor - NO!!! Hell Fl State has more of an orange tint than we do.
2- Best staff in he country - NO!!! Unless Cincy just had them hidden away.

Yes he has only been here a short time but so far nothing he has said has panned out. I also have a problem with the idea of us moving to a spread option O. Not going to win the SEC running that offense without a Tebow or Newton behind center.
