Maybe the problem isn't with Jay Graham, Tee Martin, Vonn Bell...

I never said he wasn't the answer. But I think warning signs need to be recognized and questions need to be asked. Unlike the Doolovers with their "wait until the first game", "wait until the season's over", "wait until he has all his recruits", etc. silliness, I believe in making evaluations at every step along the way. Otherwise, why even post here?

After a poor recruiting class, an inability to sign any top notch assistants, and now your best recruiter leaving, you have to wonder about Butch Jones' ability to rebuild and compete in the SEC.

Unlike the doolovers with their wait until the first game silliness.

I'm speechless

Because our team was so awesome with Jay Graham here and all...

You keep saying you're not impressed with the staff and yet the staff has actually won previously at both CMU and Cincy. Whose to say they can't win here?

I'll be blunt. Your comments are some of the worst I've seen.

ok promised crush i wouldn't rip on jones no more till end of season next year. so i have to pick my words carefully. going to say thought jay did a great job last year and he had pulled in some nice recruits for us. i think he was our second best recruiter next to thigpen and if i'm correct i think none of jones cincy buddies even landed a 4 star prospect. so far in the last 3 months i'm not impressed. you also out 2 key componets in your sentence when talking about the mac and the big east. since i'm being good let's just say i hope i'm wrong.

so you are going to base BJ off of one year ? pathetic.
you do know Urban Meyers is close at OSU ? Im sure he could use some more fans.

the man is talking. if you are going to talk you better produce. if not you just look like a fool. i know alot of tennessee fans that are tired of looking foolish. i would rather him focus on the team and alot less talk.

Yeah, nothing happens in February that you could judge a college coaching staff on, right?

Once again, if you feel like we should all reserve judgement until after the first game, then why are you on this board?

In my mind, we've seen Butch Jones do two very important things worth evaluating - hire a staff and sign a recruiting class. Neither were very impressive. Doesn't mean we should call for his head, but it makes more sense to judge him on staff moves and recruiting signings than to take some quotes he made at a press conference or a breakfast and proclaim how great you feel about this hire (which is what most of this board does).

I think this is fair and accurate.

Wow, I need to post at the beginning of these threads and say a good one liner. My post to like ratio would skyrocket, score!

like i said nothing really negative. he wins in the fall people won't even remember this. i did like jay though think it is a bigger loss than people think.

I am just messing with you :), you are free to be as negative as your heart can withstand:yes:

Tennessee has problems at multiple levels from the Chancy's office to the AD's office which do not make for good coaching and/or recruiting situations.

Makes one wonder if that was the issue with some of the RB's that we were after but couldn't sign

I think that is unfair and inaccurate

What's unfair about it ?

You may not agree with it which is fine, but it's not unfair to debate it.

So you don't think that staff hires and recruiting classes aren't more worthy of judgement than press conferences ?

Keep in mind his OP only said that maybe it's the man in charge not that it's certain that it is. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't, but it is certainly open for debate on a message board. CBJ will have a chance to clear it up for us come the fall.

Because the only true evaluation of the staff won't be possible until we get some games under our belt.
And regarding the recruits, the wait will be even longer, 2 years at least to know if they are SEC caliber players.:hi:

You can infer certain things, but it does not mean they are true until time proves them.

That's my whole point, until anything is proven one way or another then it's going to be debated on a message board and there is absolutely nothing unfair about it, that's what message boards are for.

If I posted that Butch Jones is the man for the job and is going to take TN back to the top, would you proclaim that is unfair ? No, but you should, after all he hasn't proven it yet.

Fact is the Running Back recruiting was by far the biggest recruiting failure. JG may not have felt a lot of love, but it's hard to find love when you don't perform. FSU is looking like the Island of Misfit Toys with 3 Orange castaways. Jimbo has a 3 ring circus underway.
