Megan Rapinoe & The US Soccer Team

It's really not about the score with me either....I can watch a hockey game that ends 1-0 but they will have 60+ shots on goal that travel 100+ mph. If you think chasing a soccer ball requires stamina, try chasing a hockey puck for more than 60 seconds. The only sport I know more grueling is wrestling. It is without a doubt the most grueling 6 minutes that I ever spent in my life.
That's what my wife said.

Have you read Moneyball? One of the things Lewis talks about is how some defensive players are way overrated because they flash good glove, but other players get you more outs because they know where to position themselves before the play. There is a lot of defensive strategy going on in baseball.
That's tactics. Strategy is formations, philosophies etc. Things that define one team from another. Not individual players.

I played three years and have watched more baseball with friends than I could ever have feared. You never get the types of commentary on baseball as you do in other sports. Half the times the fans arent even watching the game or could even tell you the first thing about what is happening. And those are the avid baseball fans I am with. They are never talking about the shifts, set ups, or anything you guys have mentioned. They just talk players.

Anyone down there in Dixie start using this whole "(they/them)" thing after their names on resumes and email signature lines? Just started happening up here in Boston. Friggin nuts.

You have shifts, steals, hit and runs and even the strategy between the pitcher/catcher in what pitches to throw and location is interesting. I love the small ball way more than the long ball game.
Standing a few feet to one side of a plate vs the other is not a "shift" when it's one guy. Steals, lol. Hits and runs? That's the whole point of the game, I doubt the batters are ever setting themselves up for a strike out but maybe thats the small ball I am missing. Again pitcher catcher stuff is tactics not strategy. And I have already acknowledged that is where the limited thinking is.

If a pitcher standing there for ten minutes scratching his nuts waiting for a call he likes from the catcher is strategy for you, I am sorry. Soccer has that type of interaction between players a dozen times a minute. And it's not just two guys standing still doing it.

The only reason this thread exists is due to an outspoken female athlete who has an "alternative lifestyle" and hates President Trump. So...female...gay...hates Trump. There's only about a billion of them in San Fran, Austin, and Portland. This one just happens to have some athletic skills. That, I agree, does set her apart from her peers.

Oh, and she wants to be paid like the men. Fine, put her on the pitch with Man U and let's see how she does. Equal pay, equal level of play.

Yet another example of how less than 1% of 1% of the general population is commanding the headlines these days. The Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves at what we have done with the beautiful nation they created.

Damn shame...

I have no problem with all American athletes being paid the same as their counterparts in each sport. That's internal USSF. World wide, yeah, it's about demand and backing dollars. There is no such thing as equality in this market.

This is the truth. Mother Nature and the natural order of life are also rolling over. Laughing. Such is life in the greatest country on the planet, too much time on our hands and too many luxuries and spoiled tendencies. If things go real bad and the proverbial s*** hits the fan, none of these issues will matter or even be given a moments thought as dependency and survival quickly change priorities.

Hey, I don’t understand soccer either. But instead of making myself look dumb I just leave it at that.

Again I have played and watched plenty of baseball I have more information on it than you do on soccer.

How has the attendance at home games been?
basically from 7k+ to 9k which is a majority full. It's been great. At one of the games I went to in the spring we were at capacity despite having Memphis in May festival downtown as well as a Grizzlies game.

I love baseball and all of it's intricacies yet I can understand why some people do not like it or even hate it. Doesn't get my panties in a wad.
I think that baseball can be very exciting because it ain't ever over till it's over. Of course, I played baseball and I do understand all of its intricacies. It is a very strategic game. Soccer did not exist in my area when I grew up, so I was not exposed to it on any level until much later in life..
Soccer is literally the same thing. If you played it and understand the games within the game, its exciting. That any moment, any mistake can lead to a break and a score which is a pivotal moment. Baseball has the similar qualities. Can end 1-0 after 18 innings and 5 hours of mostly nothing to people who arent involved in the game. Neither is as simple as it can be portrayed like just a bunch of dudes standing around watching someone try to hit a ball or just a bunch of dudes running around trying to kick a ball.

I like to play World Cup when I have non-soccer friends watching a game with me. You take a shot of beer every minute the clock counts, up to 90'. It's almost 8 beers and it forces you to pay attention while breaking up the monotony of the game. It's fun.
That's a pretty good indication that the game sucks.

The next Bachelorette on the new ABC Lesbian Bachelorette show that premieres next year when she and Sue Byrd breakup.

Or an answer/question on Jeopardy that nobody will be able to answer in 3-6 months.

She look anything like Alex Morgan?

I could careless if she insults Trump, it's the cool thing to do if your a celebrity and I haven't said anything about the other 2,000 so called celbs voicing their opinions. It also has nothing to do with her sexuality so nice try again. Look at her during her speech and the event in NYC yesterday. She is always wanting the attention on her and every time they tried to honor one of her teammates she had to be front and center dancing and acting like a idiot. She's an attention whore plain and simple. For the record I think the whole dropping the flag was an ACCIDENT when they was caught up in the celebration but it still shouldn't happen, especially after you have protested our anthem and blasted our president and country.
Yup. She’s just and unlikeable.

A see you next Tuesday.

Cant stand her since UCONN. Nobody wants to see women basketball. She knew that. Poor Career choice is her fault

Reality is the league is nothing, makes no money and is being propped up to keep it solvent, and people don't watch or go to games. She should be happy making over 100,000 a year doing it.

I love the :

“I mean, who doesn’t leave that job?”

Ughhhh, obviously you Dianna, how strongly do you feel "undervalued", and why not......quit?

She's like AOC. She doesn't get capitalism. She also doesn't get that in order to get paid more, they need to find out a way to get more people interested. I suggest she watch the beginning of "League of THeir Own" for a little guidance.

And fwiw, I have about the same interest in the NBA as I do women's basketball. Knowing that Zion just signed a multi million dollar shoe deal won't make me watch any more either. It MIGHT however make me buy NIKE stock because I know enough stupid people are running right out to buy those shoes.

Diana Taurasi: WNBA players have to 'go to a communist country to get paid like capitalists'

Sorry to bump this thread, but, felt that this didn't need a new thread. But, fits in here. At least Rapinoe has some leg to stand on, this one not so much as a toe.

The comments are pretty good.
Women like Diana Taurasi in non-viable industries screaming about income inequality with no understanding of the actual situation are causing tremendous harm to women with legitimate income inequality issues. The public will tune out the legitimate complaints and dismiss them lump sum with these types of complaints.
