Memphis......I got two words for yah

Memphis is a basketball school, being that UTk is a football school you would think they would have first pick in regards to state football recruits which is not the case.

I realize its a basketball school, but still with all of the talent in that city that could certainly change. Just seems weird that they've never been able to capitalize on their local talent.

There isn't a team to play in north Georgia. I believe they are getting one game in Memphis every four years but that may not be the stated objective. One in 4 gives a W TN player one time in their region.

It may be more often than I stated but I just don't think you let basketball go that easily. Ole Miss temporarily ended their football series with Memphis until Memphis agreed to play in basketball. Pastner doesn't like it but you have to do it.

i think the games scheduled to please the Ole Miss alumni in the area.

I remember where I was for that game against #1 Memphis. About the most fun and excited I have ever been watching a basketball game, including being at the old mid south coliseum as a ball boy watching the Memphis state v lousville battles, including the one where Rodney mcray missed 2 fts with no time on the clock.

I probably just saw a few at Mid South Coliseum. I clearly remember going to the first game against DePaul to open the Pyramid, either 89 or 90. It was a fantastic atmosphere when the Tigers were good. I also went to the SEC tournament in the early 90's at the Pyramid. It was very fun to attend. I believe it was the year that Lon Kruger took UF to Final Four.

If Tennessee wins January 4th I really don't know how the Memphis faithful are going to be able to defend him, should be interesting.

I can tell you that there are some long time Memphis fans who are concerned about the coaching. I like Josh- he is a great guy and recruiter. He needs to tune out the criticism because he listens to too much of the "noise." He is not the best bench coach, however, so he must overcome that. Memphis is just as lost on playing offense against a zone as UT is sometimes. They just don't play very smart at times. But if he keeps getting to the NCAAT it will be hard to get rid of him.

I hope he stays there for the next 50 years, maybe he'll have beaten a ranked team by then as well.

For the sake of BTO's emotional well-being, I hope the Vol's win on friday.

I'm not sure the guy could take another loss at Memphis' hands.

I wish you guys luck.

Unlike it is for Memphis, this isn't a huge game for the Vols. They're on a 4 game winning streak and have won against some good teams, better than Memphis, in that span. If the vols lose Friday they'll have an even better team waiting for them in Ole Miss the following game to rebound against.

I've actually stated multiple times I don't think we win this game, but as usual you have very selective reading skills.

Those one and dones will definitely keep the fans happy.

You 2 think Pastner is gonna "rip" through the C-USA schedule, that's fine. I'll go off his history that shows he averages 4 conference losses a year, and so far he's looking no better this year.

All I'm saying is, if UM loses which puts them at 4 losses, loses 4-5 conference games, and say loses to Xavier (very possible) you're looking at 21-10 or 22-9. That's hardly solid footing when you have NO good wins, and play in C-USA.

Argue it all you want, but that's the truth. Here's something interesting....Pastner went 23-9 in year one, had a RPI around 55 on selection Sunday, and didn't make the dance. Let that one sit in for a minute while you think about the scenario presented above.

That's a lot of "ifs"...I'd prefer to win tonight and take it one game at a time...I still think we beat UT, Harvard, and Xavier out of conference...time will tell

Is it true that memphis stopped the basketball series because we refused to play in football?

Cal wanted R.C. Johnson to cancel the series years ago but the R.C. was more concerned with the payday received from playing UT in football to support the athletic department. Cal and Josh wanted to keep schools like UT, Arkansas, and Ole Miss out of Memphis. Once Memphis was accepted into the Big East it gave Josh and others the leverage needed to jettison the series.

I don't blame them...Josh has nothing to gain by playing the Vols.
