Meyer stepping down

That would be good for the rest of the SEC.

i don't know if it would be good, bad or whatever.

1. he's young.

2. he's got head coaching experience

3. he's got familiarity with uf.

4. he runs the spread, which is what everyone there (except for john brantley) was recruited to do.

5. i don't think he has any interest in coaching pro ball.

6. if successful, i don't see him leaving uf until he quits.

My question is, does Florida get all the grief for running off Meyer that UT did when Fulmer got the boot?

Tim Tebow will be introduced as the new HC of Florida, giving up his disastrous NFL career with an attempt to "Change the lives of many young men"

That's a good way to put the bottom line -- there are guys who would be equally desirable that they could get for much, much less.

I'm sure they could get Mullen or strong for cheaper and would fit the system better than chip Kelly.

you think altman was thier first choice?

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about basketball. I couldn't tell you who good coaches are other than the top names like Coach K and the TarHeel coach. I know Pearl because he's at TN. I only follow basketball during the tournament and then it more for the tournament challenge than for following basketball.

Does Oregon think as highly of basketball as they do football? (This is a serious question, since I have no clue.) I know TN would pay much more for the right fit in football than they would in basketball. Maybe Oregon or at least Phil is the same.

Its amazing to me that people are still creating "Meyer stepping down/Recruiting Impact" threads. Intelligence is hard to come by it seems.

There is a coach or two available who would basically shut out the rest of the SEC if they landed at Florida with their recruiting base and ability to draw players. Mullen isn't one of them. Therefore if he ends up at FL. it would be good for the rest of the SEC as compared to who they could hire.

i wonder who the two you have in mind are.

i am not by the way saying he's the best choice.

i just think that's who will be the choice.

I thought I heard a recruiting guy say Mullen has strong recruiting ties in FL. FL hasn't been the same without Mullen (or Tebow). If Mullen is the reason they fell off, he would concern me more as the Gator's coach than Meyer.

That man's name is Nick Saban. And even he isn't capable of what you are suggesting. Yes, they do have an incredible recruiting base. But so does Texas and California. And those schools are beating each other up for their in state talent. Recruiting is a national thing. We can win some even in Tn and Florida can lose some just the same. On Saturday, take all the stars out when teams lace it up. There isn't a coach out there that can sustain a program (legally) for a long time. Coaches have a graveyard too, and it is quite busy i hear.

Does anyone know why Urban is stepping down? If it's for health reason then I understand but it seems like he just can't take the stress of the SEC. I'm sure being a head coach of an SEC team or even on a staff of an SEC team is extremely taxing but come on Urban. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Mullen hasn't been off his phone for the last hour.

I imagine. I can't see how this helps us. What if someone who actually knows how to coach and not depend on their assistants to run their program step in?

Mullen, Petrino, and Malzhan come to mind. I don't know the probability of GM going to Florida, but I can see his offenses with that talent being deadly.
