Movies you've seen recently II

Gaia, a South African environmental horror movie. Beautiful visuals and fairly interesting story. You will not want to eat mushrooms for a while. 7/10
Liked this quite a bit. Started out thinking, "oh this would be sweet on mushrooms".

Halfway through it was getting pretty intense and the very thought of being on mushrooms while watching that...

The Tomorrow War. 7/10.
Went into the movie feeling “whatever” and came out really liking it.
Just finished it. If I hadn't seen that one kinda like it with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt I might have liked it better. It was okay.
Thinking about checking this one out tomorrow. Previews looked decent.

It had a starship troopers feel to it as well.
I've never seen Starship Troopers. I'm undecided if I like Chris Pratt or not. He seems to be an action comedy type actor but he's not very funny and far from being an action "hero". That said, I don't dislike him.

I'd give the movie maybe a 5.5 or 6 outta 10 which wasn't a waste of time but pushed it.

Starship Troopers is a very (intentionally) campy guilty pleasure. Worth your time. This one was much better acting wise. Little cheesy but negligible. At some point during Parks & Recreation filming, Pratt made a deal with the Devil and audiences have benefited.

"Chris Pratt’s latest ode to his inner “action star,” Amazon Prime’s “The Tomorrow War,” is fighting its own battle with critics, who decry it as everything from “the garbage pizza of science-fiction films” to a “mediocre straight white savior fantasy in which the protagonist is…f—ing stupid.”

I read that "garbage pizza" review the other day 😅

But I always balance out critics with audience reviews (to a degree...depending on genre). Seems people here fairly like it...so a go I'll give it.

I mean it’s not some moving film but it’s fun and was better than most the crap that has been put out there recently

Been a while since I posted in here... watched more than usual this weekend...

The Patriot 8/10. Great movie. Would’ve ranked it higher but there was a 5 minute sequence where I caught myself checking my phone.

Independence Day 7/10. believe it or not, my first time actually sitting down and watching it. Solid movie. Kept laughing to myself about seeing the Fresh Prince fight Aliens.

Tomorrow war 7.5/10. Big Pratt fan, I’ll watch almost anything he’s in. Like others have said there were some moments where things didn’t make sense, but I reminded myself that I’m watching a movie about time travelers who fight aliens. It’s not supposed to be that deep. Lol

Zola 2/10...I had seen the Tweets so I had some idea what I was in for....well, it was more graphic than I expected. I'm not sure how they kept an R rating. It was almost soft porn. Zola's funny commentary about what was occurring was the only thing that made it watchable. It was much like driving by a car crash. It wasn't good but you couldn't stop staring.

I really wish the would've covered more of the human trafficking part of the story and made it more of a warning about what can happen to these young girls...

I just thought it was funny. Especially the "mediocre straight white savior fantasy" comment.

I didn't hate it. I like J.K. Simmons, can do without Pratt. I'm fine if he sticks with GotG movies. He seems to do well in those and I don't watch them.

You lost young status with the “Fresh Prince” bit. I’d say most associate him with MIB and other movies.

Went to "The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard."

Not that funny. Apparently, the script was written by 16 year boys who think the main ingredient to humor is dropping the f-bomb as often as grammatically possible. Basically just juvenile jokes.

Salma Hayek provides eye candy, but she has to be embarrassed if she has bothered to watch it since filming completed. Reynolds mailed it in and I do not blame him. Jackson is simply becoming a caricature of his Quentin Tarrentino characters basically requiring him to memorize various forms of "f" as dialog.
