Nathan Peterman, The Forgotten QB

For the sake of accuracy, Peyton was outstanding his first start at Florida....326 yds passing, 2 tds, no ints, had 37 pts on the board in the 3rd qtr. Jay Graham and Nilo Sylvan's fumbles and UTs pathetic defense that day lost the game. Just sayin.

For the sake of balance, in 1996 Peyton threw four interceptions and a fumble to spot Florida 35 points in the first half. 35-0 at half. QB's cannot be accurately judged on one-half of a game.

Dude, the guy inaccurately implied that Peyton sucked his first start at Florida in order to try and defend Peterman's poor performance last year. Fully aware that Peyton sucked the next year IN NEYLAND.....which was neither his first start vs Florida, nor in Gainesville.

No one said Peyton sucked just that even the greatest QB of all time struggled in the swamp.

A lot of posters have given up on Peterman because of one terrible half in the swamp and it is just not fair to him just as it would not been fair to any of the other QB's from the past who struggled in their first start.

If Peterman gets the nod there is going to be a meltdown. I hope he proves him self to being a good QB.

I recall the OL getting dominated by Fowler early on in that game also. Fowler basically gased out making plays all over the field the first half. If that happens again, it wont matter who the damn qb is.....

You completely missed the point. We'll move on.

I wish people would just forget the darn FL game. Guy was a freshman thrown to the wolves in the swamp. Got hurt. I hope he gets the nod. So we can all watch the meltdown of this forum.

The kid was a 4* QB and was ranked the 8th best pro style QB in the nation coming out of high school. Must have some talent.

I'm glad that he is a Vol, but it's strange that a four star QB from Florida doesn't get offered by any of the big three in that state, and his only instate offer was from Florida International, not even UCF offered him a scholarship. UT was the only SEC team to offer. Why didn't a player rated as high as Peterman get any other SEC offers? Why was Cincy his next best offer?

I think Peterman's offer list was effected by the fact that he changed his throwing motion his junior year (for the better) but made him a dark horse - he was flying under the radar. The only reason UT offered was because he showed up to one of their camps and blew them away.

And add in the fact that he played in the second half of only TWO of his games his senior year so his stats weren't super padded.

So a kid from Florida that grew up less than 75 miles from the swamp, chose to come to a UT camp on his own? If so I like him already, we always want kids who want to be Vols!!

I am all about the quarterback that comes out of camp earning the respect from the coaches, & players. If it is Peterman , then I am behind the coaches & teams choice.

Also I am all about the bass, bout the bass, no treble.

I feel sorry for peterman. He seems like a really good kid and he got a raw deal last year with the Florida debacle. I would be fine with him being named starting QB but I don't see it. I'll be shocked if Worley isn't named the starting QB.

Yup. If he has been the best in practice, I hope he gets the start at Utah State. He and Dobbs both let CBJ run the type of offense he prefers. Then, maybe let Worley take over in the 4th quarter or something...if we have a decent lead.

How about we just recruit a stud QB that has testicular fortitude the size of Al Wilson and dosesnt choke up in the Swamp..

just my opinion..

My admiration for Peterman runs deep for his perserverance and determination to work harder and improve himself instead of taking the easy way out. That's a character trait that will pay dividends for him long after football.
When I watched Cincinnati Bearcat games, from 2012, that's the sort of trait I noticed in the entire team...including their comeback win against Duke in their Bowl game.

By that time, they had only a skeleton coaching crew, but those kids were tough as nails. I cannot wait until that becomes the mindset of this team. Might start this year, and Peterman would be a great example of not giving up...but fighting tooth and nail to achieve your goal.

So, because he went up against the best defense in league, did Peyton choke, in the Super Bowl? He had just as bad of a game? Florida had the nation's best defense at that stage in the season (before they were decimated with injuries). ANY QB would look bad against that defense.

I've seen Peyton frustrated just as bad against Vandy teams, of all teams (Woody Widenhoffer was a former DC of the Pittsburgh Steelers and his multiple looks usually gave Peyton fits all game long). So, does that mean Peyton sucks and wasn't an SEC caliber QB?

Some of you get too twisted up over one half, of a redshirt freshman. Folks like yourself did the very same thing with Eric Ainge, during his sophomore year. Had an abysmal outing against LSU.

Cutcliffe came on board after the season, got him back on track and Ainge ended up being a pretty good QB for us. So....just chill, Francis.
