‘23 NC WR Nathan Leacock (Tennessee)

I think you misunderstood my post. Perhaps I didn't phrase well...

"Underrated 5 star talent" Note that I said talent, not rating.

A player with the talent of a 5 star that's underrated by the services because he's not well known. i.e. a 3 star that's just as talented as some of the 5 stars out there.

The point being, I'd just as soon have a staff that can find the hidden talent as the ones that jump in on the ones everyone else sees.
Heck that’s all the 3 star and lower recruits that are committed to the Vols according to most of the experts on here. They can’t comprehend that a group of schools are going to sign a better class just because we have a lot of undiscovered gems. Hopefully we have a good year and more of the top players end up as Vols. It’s going to take time.

Will be a really big pickup for this class.

Not sure why we seem to have struggled with the marquis guys but, dude is a player.

We gotta get Ramil.

I think for most it is more a matter of responding to those who react to a 3* commit with disappointment and certainty that they aren't good enough. Maybe they aren't. But the recruiting sites miss MORE players each year that will develop into NFL talent than they award 4/5*.

I was more excited about this kid when it was reported he ran a sub-11 100m. Being low 11's doesn't make him a bad WR prospect. But that's not great speed.

However if the staff thinks he can become a contributor then we have no choice but to trust their judgment. If he doesn't work out then the likelihood is that he will be in the portal within a couple of years.

There is a great chance Leacock ends up a solid 4 star by the end of his senior year. He has a great size and frame. He is a very good prospect. This staff isn’t going to take receiver if they don’t think they can help us. GBO!

Idk that we’ve “struggled” we just haven’t closed for a variety of reasons generally coming up second for a ton of talent. It seems I remember Clemson having similar performance before they got really good and started closing guys. I think we’ll see even better results next year with Heupel having another year to prove year 1 wasn’t just a fluke.

Something I think people forget is that Heupel had a record number of transfers this past season to play. He should do better this year with a full crew, some of which is more familiar with his system.
Yeah some people think continuity doesn't matter and even though he turned a 3-7 team with 65 scholarships into a 7-5 borderline top 25 team he somehow won't improve next year and we'll be 7-5 again.

They just want to see Heupel fail so we can go through another coaching search to get it right this time.

He is going to succeed here. He has a good staff that can coach and recruit and he can do the same. He and his staff communicate with the players well. I think Coach Heupel is well rounded in many areas, and he has a good rapport between him and the AD. Tennessee is moving in the same direction again. I am very excited about the season land think Volunteer fans across the entire state and country are as well. GBO!!!!

I do like the staff but there are 2 position groups that have me a little concerned. LB and DB. I have defended Martinez in the past but imo he has a lot to prove on the field and in recruiting. Same with BJM. LB is probably the weakest position group on the team. The LB recruiting is very lackluster.

If there aren’t some significant improvements in the recruiting as well as coaching at the LB and DB positions at the end of this season, I believe Heupel is going to have to look at replacing them.

Do you not like the two recent lb recruits?

Martinez has less to prove than any other coach on the staff almost.

When he has the personnel he needs it will be fine. And how dare he help get Alontae drafted in the 2nd round after 1 season? And im sure Theo playing the best football of his life had nothing to do with Martinez showing up right?

I went back and looked at the stats and Martinez has been by far our best db coach in several years…. Recruiting does need to improve but no reason to panic yet.

I like both Smith and Telander. Still doesn’t negate the fact that LB was one of our weakest position groups. And a group that we haven’t been recruiting at a high level. Hopefully both BJM and Martinez do really good this year. But if they don’t, then I would think both can aches need re-evaluated.

We haven't seen a BJM recruit play yet have we?

It appears the lowly 3* Herring has impressed people since arriving.
