Nebraska, Missouri face ultimatum from Big XII.

I get what you are saying, but football does and is going to always bring in more revenue than basketball. Even in the Big East.

UCONN checks in as #1 in the conference, primarily aided by the fact that they have the best combination of Football, Basketball, and Women's Basketball (most schools lose money there), however they only check in at #39 among D1 teams in total revenue at just under 55 million.

wow, didn't realize it was that much of a difference.

Is there a link you might have which I can look at that shows all these numbers?

I think you can consider colorado gone. I may end up being wrong, but I just can't ever imagine Baylor getting an invite from anyone.

Isn't there a political push in Texas to require that Baylor be part of a package deal with the other Texas teams? Seems to me that Colorado going to the PAC-10 would foul that up.

lol that's what immediately came to mind when you made that example, don't worry :) (funny I was going to ask if that's what you were getting at)

I'm just trying to figure out how/if it applies

right it would. I think though it's supposedly been for a while that Colorado was looking to (or preparing itself) to go to the pac 10 since earlier this offseason and I think they might have been courted earlier in the year by the conference too

Considering how little they make in conference (well, and how upset they are and have been going to the media about it the last few weeks), I think alot of people are saying they won't be surprised at all if - however this Big 12 Mizzou/Neb situation ends - Colorado moves itself to the Pac-10 afterwards

Yup. The college football landscape would be totally messed up and it would be all thanks to ND. The world blew up all over the place and it was all thanks to Homer.

Baylor is notoriously so high on their horse, to think that they would have to follow suit would make their heads spin. Furthermore, their irrelevance in Texas politics would astound most people. They don't have half the stroke they'd like you to believe. The sand fleas, in the dust bowl that is lubbock, have more say so. And that is sad.

I don't think they're going to do anything though

...oh wait, you're saying that because they did nothing (i.e. place themselves as the big 10's 12th team and end its expansion there), that it's their fault, aren't you?

That's what everybody else will start saying. I have heard if ND accepts the spot then all of this expansion talk will cease to end.

What's "messing it up" (to use your description) is the fact that spending is so out of control in the NCAA that ADs can't even break even with $50+ million in revenues.

i posted this on facebook earlier in the that sums up my feelings on this matter:

Dear Notre Dame,

Do me and everyone a favor, swallow y'all pride and do what's best for college athletics and accept the Big Ten offer to join,so we can sqash this nonsense.

Thank you!

interesting. I've seen some stuff say that the odds of the big 10 ending at 12 teams was like 100-1 (not literal, but you get my point)

Wow! we have a network and a collection of the most overrated teams in the country . We're making tons o'money but can't explain why our football conference has to wait for 50 days to play after the regular season is over. Instead of tearing down others, they need to add a conference championship game and take advantage of the luxurious Lucas Oil Stadium. Instead, they can't learn from the other conferences with that format and the profits being made. There's the BIG TEN for you, where still lies the SEC's b----.

The list that I found was a year old that was a 07-08 report, but by looking around at more recent numbers (not on a list), they seem to be about on par with that. WVU is up about 4 million over the 2 year period.

For perspective, Tennesse football alone made 46 million in 03-04. WVU total athletic revenue from 08-09 is 48 million.

^ I think the way you worded that last bit is a touch misleading... I kind of doubt sports at most schools besides football and men's basketball even turn a profit. Point still stands, though. Of course Tennessee makes more money than WVU. Tennessee turns more revenue on sports than all but about a dozen schools nation-wide.

robvols, I'm going to assume that was a drunken rant. I have no idea what your point is.

You may find yourself waiting awhile for ND to put any interests above their own. You might even struggle to get their acceptance that others even have interests.

More expansion/subtraction crap. I'm sick of hearing about all this super conference nonsense. The next thing you know, they're going to want to put all 120 D-1 programs in one giant mega conference called something like the National Collegiate Atheletic Association.

Nebraska will be starting the Dominoes Friday.

I really think this is how it will shape up.

Nebraska, Mizzou, ND, Uconn, and Rutgers to the Big 10.

CU, Tex, A&M, Tech, OK, Ok St to the Pac 10 (I think Baylor's whining finally gets ignored)

Then some combo of FSU, Clemson, NC St., VTech, Miami or GT to the SEC.

Then the ACC takes WVU and Pitt and a couple others to stay viable.

The MWC swallows up Boise St and Kansas and K St. and continues to try and be a major confrence but won't be able to compete with the big 4.

ACC, SEC, Big 16 and Pac 16 create a 4 conference playoff and RULE THE WORLD!

I was pretty much ripping on the BIG TEN in a "Look At Me" tone.

Is Don Beebe about to be a failed conference commissioner? He might have had a run as OVC commissioner but he sure may be single handly destroying the Big 12.

Well if UConn, Rutgers, Neb and Mizz join the Big ten. The big 12 disolves and joins the Pac 10 and then the SEC raids the ACC which causes the ACC to rip apart the rest of the Big East causing it to collapse would in turn force ND to fully accept the Big 10 offer.
