If you really believe that, then we cannot help you. "Roster management" with the portal is almost impossible.D = Heupel not being the coach we thought he was. Having an abysmal OL and WR room in year 4 and potentially having an even worse one on year 5 lands solely on the HC’s inept roster management and play development. How many teams in the transfer portal era have gone 7-5, 10-2, 8-4, and 10-2 and gone into year 5 with almost 0 production returning offensively? A walkon RB and former walkon TE are our top 2 returning skill players this year and there’s a very good chance our best offensive weapon next year is currently a defensive back
As good as Peyton was, he got a $16M signing bonus to the NFL and proceeded to go out his rookie year and throw nearly 30 interceptions.Comparing Nico to the greatest ever is not fair to Nico. Can't compat 1994-1998 to now. Different game, different type of players, different coaching.
Would be like comparing anyone to Pat Summit, not fair.
CJH cannot make Nico's brain function faster. Anyone putting down or bashing our coach has an I-D-10-T problem.Marcus Mariota, Trevor Lawerence, Tua Tagoviloa, Jalen Hurts, Bryce Young, Josh Dobbs, Tyler Bray, Justin Herbert, Caleb Williams, Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, JT Barrett, Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm, and Matt Barkley were all more productive players in either their redshirt/true freshmen years or true sophomore years after playing a small role as true freshmen. Even DJ Lagway is more impressive than him. Stop saying “Nico is a freshman” as if he was in high school this time last year. He started practicing with the team in December of 2022. He’s had a bowl practice, spring ball, an entire offseason, fall camp, a redshirt year while playing mop up duty, another bowl pracice and bowl game, spring practice, an offseason, another fall camp, a full season, and a third year of bowl practice and we’re still wondering how he’s going to be when he steps onto the field next season. Nico was considered “a generational talent” and so far it’s not played out that way. I think it’s safe to say
A: he’s not what we thought he was coming out of HS
B: Josh Heupel isn’t the coach/QB developer we thought he was when we signed Nico
C: a little bit of both
There was a lot of QBs that played when he did and didn't throw no were near the interception Peyton did. You can like him and still be honest, Way to many interceptionsAgain, it was a totally different game back then. You can't compare QB stats from 30 years ago to now. The way quarterbacks are coached and the way the passing game is called has evolved immensely. If Peyton came along now, his stats would look different.
I found some SEC passing stats from 1997:There was a lot of QBs that played when he did and didn't throw no were near the interception Peyton did. You can like him and still be honest, Way to many interceptions
There are rules and policies and then there is overreaching BS like you are suggesting. My place of employment and nature of my work has more restrictions on what I can do in my personal life than most people's do, but even they dont say I cant use social media. Hardlining with 18 year olds rarely goes well for anyone. They are now employees of the university so I don’t see an issue with it. My work has policies and rules I don’t like but if I want to get paid I have to follow them.
Going by stats isn't an accurate representation. Nico's good numbers are largely based on 4 games against crappy non conference opponents and Vandy. He had 19 touchdowns this season. 14 came against those 5 opponents. When you look at the more respectable SEC opponents on our schedule, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Fla, Alabama, Georgia, he had a combined total of 2. 2 touchdowns in those 5 games.Tee’s ‘98 stats
153 completions 267 attempts 57.3 completion % 2,164 yds 19 tds 6 ints
Nico’s ‘24
213 completions 334 attempts 2,616 yds 63.8 completion % 19 td 5 int
Which is better? It’s marginal …. But there’s no debating which had the better supporting cast.
You are probably a great guy but you have the most negative piss poor attitude anytime something has even a hint of adversity. Get some resolve and strive for perfection to obtain excellence. I believe you can do it.Can't blame him. Why take another year of running for your life behind a piss poor OL only to have a group of receivers who can't get open or catch a cold? Heupel's offense has no answers....or perhaps I should say Heupel and his coaches have no answers. Nico and his family are either truly interested in new digs or he's angling to get a huge pay raise as a kind of insurance policy to the season he's about to experience next year. Honestly can't make an argument for the kid to stay in Knoxville. It is what it is. Thanks for the memories, Nico.
Loser mentality....athlets would rather make the playoffs and have a chance than take the easy road which no one will care about.Knowing that we would be embarrassed on national television as the alternative?
