Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

True, but let's go back a couple of weeks and give them a multiple choice quiz:

Which opponent would you rather face in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament?

A. Michigan

B. Arkansas

C. Wright State

Any bets what the results of the survey would have been?
Then maybe Arkansas shouldn't have lost to Wright State. Mo State sure didn't have any time dismissing them.

So do most MO State fans consider Mox to be a better coach than Kellie? They don't seem to be missing her, seeing how your coach got further than Kellie with a less talented roster...

As I have said the last few days, it remains to be seen.

But to simply say "she's doing it with Kellie's players" completely dismisses her and what she has achieved in her first 2 years: 87% winning percentage, in the running for a 4 seed the last 2 seasons, back to back MVC titles (one being undefeated)

There's no denying she can coach, extremely well with X/Os (having come back from 19 on Maryland, demolishing FCGU, Wright State after beating Arkansas, etc). I think all Lady Bears fans will say it depends on her ability to recognize talent and bring it in to carry on the storied tradition of this program.

FTR, I still have my signed Harper Lady Bears jersey hanging up. It won't ever be coming down. There is ZERO ill will towards Kellie in Springfield.

I really appreciate your comments. Kellie Harper is a good WCBB head coach. Amaka Agugua-Hamilton may be a future great WCBB head coach. I predict some Power 5 school will sign her in the next 3 or 4 years. This is not a putdown to Missouri State. I believe Amaka is the female version of Wes Moore. He went from UTC (Chattanooga) to NC State. Of course this all future speculation to be sure.

We know what we are. Nothing wrong with that. Even if we lose Mox in the next few years, she's going to leave our program in a position for the next one.

Can't say I'm surprised. She was a surefire first round draft pick, and will likely have a solid rookie year...especially if she's playing at off-guard. Her combination of size, smarts and shooting range will fit in great in the WNBA. Too bad she couldn't end her college career on a more positive note.

I'm assuming Slocum is gone, but really curious about what Amber Ramirez is planning to do. If she comes back and Jersey is as good as she's projected to be, they might actually be better than they were this year.

Destiny Slocum entered the Draft as well

Interesting. We've had some of the same deliberations about how much of Kellie's "success" is due to Holly's players.

Thanks for the comments...

It's become a bit of a circular argument. Despite the talent that Kellie inherited, she still had to implement her culture in the program and that takes time. Kellie's successor at Mo State improved the team's results immediately, but that was because of Kellie's players.

Go figure.

So implying Kellie improved the team’s results because she lost Holly players, which she did from transfer

Except that's not even true, because Tennessee would have been even stronger this year if Massengill and Zaay Green stayed.

This year's success wasn't because of Tess Darby and Destiny Salary...it was Holly's players that led the team. Lets's see if "Kellie's Players" are an improvement from the 2 McD AAs that she loses to graduation.

I have no doubt that Kellie is a better coach than Holly, but she will be starting the race behind everyone else if she doesn't start bringing in some elite talent.

Those aren’t Holly’s players. They are Kellie’s player when they committed to play for Kellie. They all did that by staying and playing for UT.

Holly’s player would be someone like Mimi Collins who was a vocal Holly advocate. They may have been recruited by Holly but those were Kellie’s player she rerecruited them to be at UT.

Just like people saying the Mizzu St coach is winning with Kellies players. No those are her players who committed to playing for her and Ms St.

This. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to say...the recruiting HAS to improve. Maybe Wynn, Puckett and Striplin will be everything we need them to be and more. But I think for us to consistently win and return to glory, we’re going to have to recruit top talent. It’s just that simple. Idk why people get up in arms when that fact is pointed out.

I actually agree with you. This is more in response to posters saying that Tennessee's struggles are because Kellie is working with "Holly's players" as opposed to those that she recruited...which is a cop out. The players that were already on the roster when she came in are the ones that are making or breaking the team...not Kellie's '20/'21 class. If these players are being painted as a barrier to Kellie's success, I'm saying that it won't improve (and will likely get worse) once they are all gone if Kellie doesn't pick up on the recruiting trail.

Oh this was tagged with you but for other posters who like to twist and turn something to make someone look bad.

To reinforce your point, here are HoopGurlz top players for the 2020 class. Top 20 then 40-60.
Which group of 20 would you rather choose from ?

#47 Jacorriah Bracy 5'10 G was the Mississippi Gatorade POY and signed with Ole Miss.

She averaged 35 ppg, 11.2 rpg and 7 apg as a HS Senior. Her freshman stats at Ole Miss were 3.2 ppg (34% from the floor), 1.4 rpg and 0.4 apg in 11 minutes per game off the bench (ironically, her best game by far was scoring 13 points in the SECT loss to Tennessee, but she's back to ~3 ppg in the WNIT).

This is why all of the gaudy HS stats are mostly meaningless. Bracy's recruiting profile is almost identical to Puckett or Wynn, which is why I'm not expecting them to take the SEC by storm as freshmen.
