Republican-controlled Congress???

The Republicans must have taken over while I wasn't looking.

I guess so?

112th Congress 2011–2013
Senate: 51 Dem, 47 Rep , 2 Ind
House: 193 Dem, 242 Rep, 1 Ind

Let me google that for you

If Google is too complex. here is Wiki:

The United States Congress is the bicameral legislature of the federal government of the United States, consisting of the Senate, its upper house, and the House of Representatives, its lower house.

So no, the Republicans do not control congress.

The (R)'s have the majority in the House, and have stonewalled anything from happening in the Senate using the constant threat of filibuster...

Sounds like they're "controlling" it to me?

Yeah, if you ignore the fact that, when talking about Congress, "controlling" usually implies having a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

It is a matter of perspective.

To a Democrats, they have a majority of the Senate and the White House, but those evil Republicans are stonewalling their efforts in the House of Representatives.

To Republicans, they have the House of Representatives (often thought as the true voice of America) but those damn Democrats in the Senate and White House are suppressing the true voice of the American people!

Oh the joys a gridlock two-party, checks and balances political system!

I'm an independent, but left to choose the lesser of two evils -- at this point I vote democrat.

Hopefully, in my lifetime a 3rd, 4th, 5th party emerges with legitimate shots to win elections... :/

I am neither a Democrate or a Republican as well.

How has the "lesser of two evils" been working for ya? The problem is that when voting for the lesser of the two evils, you stil end up with an evil.

At some point you have to be that change you want to see in the world; shutout to Gandhi.

Vote for who you want in office. If that is third party, vote third party. If that is a write in, write in. Be true to yourself, quit waiting for the world to change.

I use the phrase "lesser of 2 evils" because that's commonly thrown out... I don't "really" mean it.

In this situation, I'm a firm Obama supporter. I vote R, D and I in my local and state elections all the time. Raised "republican", switched to Dem 5 years ago due to being fed up with fundamentalist religion completely taking over my former party. ;)

If we had open primaries here in FL, I'd be an (I)...

you can't claim independent status and still say you vote for a party. You're simply a Dem that feels guilty about admitting it (completely understandable)

I'm still amazed that anyone thinks this will just magically happen without voting for a 3rd party to actually get them in the discussion. It will never happen without support or as long as "independents" keeping voting for one of the 2 major parties

So you are the typical American that claims independent status and yet votes along party lines

Nope, don't vote down party lines at all...

I've voted for Bush in 2000, Bush in 2004 and Obama in 2008... I worked on the campaign for our republican mayor of Orange County in 2010.

I have supported and still support John Mica (R) in the House and voted and volunteered for Alan Grayson (D) in the 2008 and 2010 elections.

You're not going to pin me down politically as an R or a D... I vote on the issues, and who I think will best support my views.

I am actually on the November ballot down here in FL in a non-partisan race.... Wish me luck! ;)

You've already labeled yourself as a Democrat.

Negative ghostrider, we dont like govt loving nancys

You could "do the right and ethical thing" for your employees, and STILL turn a great profit, as hundreds of thousands of businesses already do... But that's not the American way.

Every man for himself!

Makes a man wonder why these people don't seek employment at one of these hundreds of thousands of businesses.

Isn't that the "American Way"?

Exactly

The real problem right now -- even according to many conservatives -- is that the word "compromise" in the ranks of the GOP labels you a RINO. And they put someone up against you to run you out if you dare to defy their orders not to give this president any success, whatsoever.

Posturing is one thing. But what is going on right now in the House is what the real problem is to getting anything done and curing these uncertainty problems you guys are talking about.

Pot meet kettle!! The Dems are just as guilty.
