Which Coach would you rather have?

Buzz Peterson's teams would have taken the crap that KO inherited behind the woodshed to play rear admiral.

The nature of the question screamed "why bother" to me, so it was nice that someone decided to.

I think we've hit an impasse here. I think that both KO and BP have incomplete grades right now. Neither has been at a D1 program long enough to prove/disprove their ability to put together a solid, winning program as a head coach. I think this is a critical year for CBP. He lost two of the best guards in UT history last year, so I expected a dropoff. There really isn't an excuse this year though. I personally will be off the bandwagon without drastic improvement this season over last. We'll see.

ummm...you dont have to look any further than what KO inherited

Maybe this is a reason CBP is better than CKO....

From Toronto Papers,,,,,

"The rift between O'Neill and Grunwald became public after a story in a local newspaper quoted unidentified sources, including former Raptors, saying that current players had grown tired of O'Neill's abrasive style."

He really does move on after short stints,,,He seems rougher than Bobby Knight.

Coaching knowledge aside, you have to communicate and motivate and CKO's style seems to wear thin after short periods of time with players College and Pro. Based on past history, he doesn't make the SC gig for more than three years.

and this from USA today....

"It's the second time in less than a year that Olson has banished an assistant. Last spring, he replaced longtime aide Jim Rosborough with O'Neill.

During his tenure as interim head coach, O'Neill led Arizona to a 19-15 record and the school's 24th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, the nation's longest active streak."

- LESS THAN A YEAR.....Talented but must be a real heartburn of a coach and person.

That almost every single person taking shots at me regularly was on record in the same thread saying that O'Neill is a better coach than Pearl.

:good!:

I've come to realize I hate Pearl's sycophants worse than the Fulmerites. At least those mongoloids had a national title to brag about. Then again, it's not going to last long enough to really bother me. He'll keep recruiting the Marques Johnsons/Bobby Mazes/Melvin Goins of the world. Let's see where that gets him.

How did bobby and melvinplay this year?

Just curious here, but why the bump?

It was something I read today for the first time. Panda took a shot, wanted to see if he ever wrote anything himself...saw hat and lots of others saying oneill is better than pearl and realized why we never came close to agreeing...kevin played so ugly that going to games felt painful to me as a fan...they also think bo ryan is better than pearl...I am positive pearl will have better talent and better results than bo for the next decade...

Hat mocks my predictions and yet he guaranteed pearl would not last 3 years. He also said pearl can't recruit talent. He also said pearl can't coach halfcourt defense...

It's like you have a personal vendetta against hat to show that you are/were right about something.

Hmm, interesting poll. Even last summer I would have picked Pearl over O'Neill, for a number of reasons, although I thought both were very good. Most important, to me, is the fact that O'Neill is just too violatile. He's just not a long term solution. He wears on everyone, his players and administration. It's too bad, because, otherwise, he was the right coach at the time.

Otherwise, anyone who voted for Jerry Green should be beaten with a rubber mallet, Buzz's voters had to be joking and Wade Houston? Well, hello Allan, Patty and Lynn. It's good you still follow the Vols after they fired your dad.

I like Bruce the most. But he reminds me a of Jerry Green though, they could win 22 or 23 games but not win the SEC tourney or advance in the NCAA unless they played a lower seed.
