The caveat here is that a school like North Texas' conference games aren't the same as ours. If we're being fair, take away every teams 4 easiest games, and see where everyone ranks nationally on offense. I would put money on Tennessee's offense still ranking highly.2nd in the conference, 9th vs conference opponents only. Nationally 8th, 78th vs conference opponents only (vs best conference, obviously, but still...)
In conference games, we scored 6 less touchdowns that South Carolina: meaning that 3 out of every 4 games, South Carolina got an extra touchdown.
Incidentally, in 8 conference games, we faced 6 of the 7 worst scoring defenses in the conference. It was a disappointing offensive season.
But Heupel has had drastically better offenses than this. We went a whole month without scoring in the first half. It’s more than “room to improve.” It’s “this was far below the standard of Josh Heupel offenses over the course of his career.”And you are cherry picking. If you do the same thing to any team in the country, their numbers will fall off, too.
If you look at the scores in most SEC games this season, you’ll see a lot of teams scoring in the teens and low-20s. They play defense in this league.
No SEC team averaged 30 points or more per game in conference games. Vols were #9 at 25 per game, but not far off #1 aTm at 29.2.
Yes, there is room to improve, but it is unreasonable to expect anything drastic.
Didn’t Dooley manage top tier offenses with .500 results?Imagine if we were 6 & 6 or less, as many on here wish we were, so they could do what they do best when their not taking it from their significant other. We would have about 20 threads like this.
It is good therapy for the ones that need that path.
Stats don’t tell the whole story. BottomNice countermeasure. I thought we were talking about offensive stats, not win loss record. Stay on topic.
cause our coach's name isn't Beamerwhy is there NEVER any deception in the offense? Little to no misdirection, never a trick play...just nothing that says heupel and his staff are clever and imaginative. You probably see 5-6 KC Chiefs plays EVERY WEEK that speak to their imaginative play calling. And yet, there is the bottom line to look at on the alternative side, right? We're in the playoffs, 10-2...But some changes are going to have to be made if we are going to maximize our potential, because who cares if we score 70 against Kent St?
If you didn’t watch the games, I can see how you’d believe that, but good offenses don’t go entire calendar months without scoring a single point in the first half of a game.
Let's be honest, our passing game has not been top shelf in SEC play. Caveat...it does count that JH manages the games like OK differently b/c of our outstanding defense and Sampson. Ultimately, it's the W's that count and is a team game...so it really doesn't matter what our offense looks or feels like as long as we win. I think most on here didn't expect a 10-2 season, and certainly most thought if we did, then Nico would be heisman candidate w/ all american wide receivers. Nico and WR (and OL at some times) has had some growing pains...but obvious to all that the talent to be next level is there. Nico and WR's coming on at end of season, for sure. Next year should be all gas, no breaks. And you are cherry picking. If you do the same thing to any team in the country, their numbers will fall off, too.

This good offense did.
If we had probably any other Heupel defense this season, we would have had to have fought to make a bowl. I’m sorry but the offense is mediocre. 25 ppg in SEC play is no better than mediocre. And you can tell it is mediocre because if anyone had predicted us to only score 25 a game in conference play before this season started, you would have called them an idiot. We moved the well in those games. We just turned the ball over or missed FGs.
The stats are the stats. We are 8th nationally in both yards and scoring offense.
Here is the FACT that those pushing the "our offense if horrible now" narrative. When compared to 2022, we are much worse in several areas, that much is true. But we also had a QB that was very talented but had already been a multi-year starting QB at a major university. He was MUCH better in year 2 of running the offense, compared to year 1, even with the experience. A little different when compared to a REDSHIRT freshman in his first year actually facing SEC level defenses. Let us see if the game slows down the same way for Nico in year 2.I don’t like trolling or flooding each thread with similar answers, but no one can expect 2022 offense every year because we aren’t going to see a player who is so perfect for the offense like Hendon Hooker was. His numbers were insane.
