Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

I agree with celebrating the victories we have, and the recent rush of commitments is certainly something to celebrate...and I have and I do...and yes THAT IS exciting

But the past couple of weeks is only the begining, celebrate YES, but I just am not going over the top with the success theories yet

Again...JMHO

I hear ya. I hope we all see progress on the field and can enjoy the season. That's what I'm hoping for in the long run. And I'm appreciating the other stuff in the mean time. :) GO VOLS!!!

Yeah, his avvy shows he is a mature UTK graduate and doesn't want others to view the university as being capable of matriculating anybody other than a well rounded and grounded individual. Talking about oskie before anybody misconstrues my intent.

Thought you were taking a shot at old Alfred E Newman ...and his gussie new outfit there for a moment

Hope all is well Human:hi:

Well if u can't tell that this fanbase gets in over it's head and then crashes that's not my problem. Like it or not when I see something that will cause harm to the school I love and graduated from then I will voice my opnion about it. This isn't just about the football team for me but the schools reputation as a whole. This fanbase needs a reality check. Until it understands that I will continue to try to guide it in the direction I believe is best. People can listen or not but I'm still gonna do it. Do I have that right on here darlin??

Honestly u have a problem grasping that I don't have a problem with people being happy, but with people keeping it under control so they don't turn negative like they did this past fall. This isn't some hippy pow-wow lovefest this cfb.

Probably couldn't decide cause u r incapable of understanding what I said. Which is obvious when you make a stupid comment like this. I don't mind disagreement but you show the incompetent card when all u got is stupid comments.

It is my opnion and that's what I said. I'm more than happy to discuss where it's flawed but of course you can't comprehend the root of my conclusion so therefore all you can say is it's flawed which to me says..."I really am to dumb to understand this but I shouldn't agree so I'll make a stupid comment". Good job Corky :good!:
You keep flapping your gums about what is best for Tennessee and yet you still spew crap about Dooley being wronged. If you couldn't see that Dooley was in over his head here, then I don't know what to tell you. The meltdown of this fan base last year was well justified. If you feel that I am wrong, and I know that you do, explain what Dooley did to warrant anymore patience from the fans. Did you see great playcalling from him last season? How was the recruiting going? Help me understand how his process was going to lead to success.

BTW

Sad day for all Vols when we even count Vandy as a team of SEC caliber

However..... your point about the Louisville/Cinn game is well taken....but if you use that logic I could also say is that the same Florida that Louisville beat ...the one that took our high quality players out to the woodshed??? that Florida???

You guys are just in full defensive mode when it comes to CBJ...and he may well turn out to be the best thing to happen here sense Gen Neyland... I Hope so...

I just think the blimish on his record of being beaten by the worse coach in my history of following Tennessee football is worthy of an honest question about our new coach.... ...(My first game, Dewey Warren was QB)

:hi:

CBJ never played that Vols team that UF took to the woodshed, did he? Different years?

If you title the thread "I was wrong," or something, that's one thing. When you name it "the official eating crow thread," it directly implies that this is where others should come to do the same.

No. It implies it is me eating crow. Anyone else wanna? If so, here is the thread to do it in?

What a mistake it was to make a thread in this garbage forum.

I was all in on Strong and admit I was disappointed in the Butch hire. After doing a little research I've gotten on board. Now I'm optimistic.

In conclusion, I approve of this thread

I really wanted to see us get Strong.

Happy with the route that fell to the university though.

I still think Strong would have been a great hire.

I'm happy with Butch so far.

Strong would have created the same buzz.

It would have been a bit more subdued, but it would have happened. With everything Jones has done so far, I think he was the better choice in this time.

He was a decent coach, but a better QB... the first time I saw him in the pocket it looked like he would be destroyed, yrt he just stood there and completed the passes...as a young man it made an impression on me and began my love for the passing game

I hope I am not being negative...it is not really my intent, but I am being honest with how I fell...I am simply saying I am taking the wait and see before I totally believe again...I have been caught up in the hype before and I want action before I decide...

Thanks for responding Volly :hi:

Dewey led the nation in passing efficiency in 1966 (see p. 31 of http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2012/fbs.pdf) but he also was more influential as a college coach than he is generally given credit for. Consider the following facts: "Warren was instrumental in revolutionizing college football under LaVell Edwards at Brigham Young. Edwards, who had spent his career as a defensive coach, became head coach in 1972; he knew that BYU lacked the blue-chip athletes necessary to win consistently with a conventional run-oriented game and so handed the offense to Warren, who had been hired to install a passing attack. Warren's offense turned every running play into a passing play, and overwhelmed defenses with four and five receivers, coming from every possible position in the offense. Although Warren left BYU after only two seasons, his offense, led by quarterback Gary Sheide, was already setting records" (Dewey Warren - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

You have to wonder after all of this if Gruden could have recruited at an even higher level. I mean what is the guy even doing? Wasn't he like the hottest thing in the news for months for coaching, and he just goes back to working at ESPN like that? Seems like something roped him in and prevented him from leaving. I still think he is 10x better coach than at least 10 current NFL coaches.

I don't HAVE to do anything but here I am getting that genital horse kick feeling again...I really hope the Longhorns tab Gruden to replace Mack Brown when he decides to step down...not wishing failure or success just some barometer of college success for those that worship at the Altar of Chucky

Solid post. Skarew Gruden! He has proven he's a self absorbed Prima Donna. Don't need him, don't want him. CBJ is getting it done well beyond my expectations!

We're convincing ourselves that Jones is better than Strong now?

This board is amusing.

Negative. I haven't thought that question over, nor do I care to. I am saying I wanted Strong, was disappointed by the CBJ hire, but have been pleasantly surprised by him. I now think CBJ will do well here.

Holy crap this is like Dooley all over again (not that I'm surprised).

And what I mean is not that Jones is another Dooley or he will be gone in 3 years, I mean once again we are declaring Jones "the man" before he's even coached a game. 3 years ago we had the same type thread declaring that Dooley was definitely "the guy". And yes, I get this time the reasons are different and even better, but the fact remains it's March.

And some of you guys really, really put way too much emotion into what is said on here, and too much importance of its impact.

This pretty much sums it up. CBJ said it himsellf, there is only so much talk before it has to proved on the field.

I was pissed when CBJ first got the gig and said so here on VN but after a day ir two to research his record I am cautiously optimistic. He's got to have a winning season (and if he wins the bowl game it'll be interesting to see how hopes on Rocky Top soar) right away though.... If we have another 5 win debacle it'll get ugly QUICK around here. I think he'll do better than just six wins though. I can see this team getting to seven and with a break or two, possibly eight. If bUTch goes for eight wins folks will lose their minds here and I'll probably be one of 'em!

I was in the Gruden threads a lot and don't recall any of the regulars hoping that the Vols lost so that Dooley would be fired. This is a common misconception by the blind Dooley followers.

Doyle, I hate to disagree, but I did see a couple or three posts stating that very thing.....I can't remember where they were nor am I going to look them up. They did seem to be drive-by accounts (say less than 100 or so posts), but they were there. I'm not nor was I a blind Dooley follower but I was a fence rider until the FL game this year. It was then that I knew that Tyrick Brayley had to go.

Football is different than Basketball. There is pride in making and winning bowl games, while the NIT should be a joke for UT.

But if you really want to know, I rooted for UT to TANK after the Miss. St loss.. just to ensure a foot up Dooley's ass. Now we are much better off then if we got hot late and keep that pathetic coach.

Wow, served up nice and easy in the B-Ball forum of all places. But like I said, a nub account......less than 100 posts.
