Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Don't hold back on my account KB

Ill start off. I was out of town, and almost gave up on us ever having a capable coach when I read the news of Jones being hired. I of course did some research, and as always (Dooley being the lone exception( convinced myself he could get the job done. My lone worry was recruiting. I knew recruiting to UT, was different that Cincy, and that if he was good, we would see the results. Well, he has blown past my best expectations in a little over three months. The man has proven he can coach, and now he is showing everyone he can recruit. Russia got a falling star, UT may have gotten one too. But only people getting hurt here are opposing coaches feelings, knowing they can no longer cherry pick this states top talent. If this week is any inclination of what's to come, consider me giddy.

I was wrong about Butch. Any others?

I applaud your enthusiasm. I too am excited about the future of UT Football and the recent commitments of some Vol Legacies. I think we should all hold off on the eating crow for a couple of years to see how everything plays out. Recruiting well doesn't always equal wins. I hope Butch is the next Urban Meyer but it is way too early to judge the man and his staff. Lets simply support him and hope he does well. I really want this team to succeed.

Seeing we have such a VASTLY SUPERIOR squad left to us from Dooley, is it your belief that we should compete in the SEC this year??? not to be an arse, just an honest question??

By the way.... CBJ IMHO will have the same issues in the SEC this year, does that side then say we will not win any SEC games this year because of talent??? again, just a question?

What it says is that we would DESTROY every team in the big least this year or any year, talent wise. That does NOT equal to having dominant SEC talent. Apples and Oranges but I know I'm wasting my time......

Not a waste of time Laager. It helps keep this wonderful thread going.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Goat for starting this thread. I'm sure when he started it in his admitted drunkeness he never imagined it would turn out like this.

Hats off sir. Hats off. :hi:

The reality is Coach Butch Jones is the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers Football. And the team deserves our support. That support goes to the program, the players, and the coaches. None of them have done anything at this point to deserve the fanbase turning their backs on them.

And as for the "darlin" crap? Get a life a grow up.

Ohhh like they(players) deserved for the fan base to flame out on them this past season sweetheart??? The way people keep referencing them as the worse D in history. May be true #s wise but I saw them work their tails off and have said it many times. Where were u with all this "he's our coach" support then??? I was there doing it and don't remember u there at the end when they were still playing hard.

Like I've said before I have no problem with this coaching staff but taking it day by day. U won't find any negative statements I've made about them. What I have a problem is this fan base that gets their expectations high than if something goes wrong and then it turns negative like this past season. Not that tough to understand darlin.

I have a problem with you getting defensive when someone disagrees with your opinion and then try to tell everyone how they should feel. Over and over.

You have made your point sweetheart, move on.

You keep flapping your gums about what is best for Tennessee and yet you still spew crap about Dooley being wronged. If you couldn't see that Dooley was in over his head here, then I don't know what to tell you. The meltdown of this fan base last year was well justified. If you feel that I am wrong, and I know that you do, explain what Dooley did to warrant anymore patience from the fans. Did you see great playcalling from him last season? How was the recruiting going? Help me understand how his process was going to lead to success.

Vols Butch!

Yes I believe he was wronged due to the fact that he was given less than 2.5 seasons to get the mess fixed. Not enough time IMO to judge anyone considering the mess he walked into. CBJ can be judged in that short period cause the situations from the start are way different.

Btw - its been stated by, deerpark iirc (whomever the poster is that is in the AD), that the coaches would be levied with Bray after games cause he would change plays and not do what they wanted him to. This would affect the gameplan immensely. Never said dooley made all great plays but knowing this I can't judge the guy completely without being on the headset or meetings.

Also, when he made the call at the end of the mizzou game I was confused at first. But when I thought about for a second I knew exactly why he made it. He confirmed my thoughts on the situation in his presser.

Does this crap make you feel manly when you throw that in there? Is this your way of attemting to be an internet tough guy?

Now. In regards to the rest of your post. Because lord knows I wouldn't want you to come back with the whole boring "you only pull one sentence out of my statement" bit.

I could give a flying F*** about your opinion. Does not make one little bit of difference to me how you feel about the way DD was treated. He's gone. Get over it.

Before you come back with the weak "put me on ignore" crap, i'll go ahead and answer for you. No. I have no one on ignore. That button works two ways. So if you don't like my replies.....just click it.

exactly, they've not played a single game..

No one has.

Everyone is preparing to play and most here will agree CBJ is doing a good job of preparing. No one knows what is going to happen, but he is doing all he can right now.

Good grief.

Some fans choose to hope. Some fans choose to believe. Some fans do neither. I am among those who hope and believe. When there seems no reason to hope, some fans choose to still believe. When there seems no reason to believe, some fans choose to still hope. They have a heart that refuses to quit. They have souls that would die without the faith inherent in it.

I believe
The storm will soon be over
I believe
The rain will go away
I believe
That we will make it through
Oh Oh Oh Oh
I believe
It's already done

I believe
Our family will get better
I believe we will rise to the top
Oh Oh Oh Oh
I believe
It's already done

Seems so simple doesn't it?

Well if u can't tell that this fanbase gets in over it's head and then crashes that's not my problem. Like it or not when I see something that will cause harm to the school I love and graduated from then I will voice my opnion about it. This isn't just about the football team for me but the schools reputation as a whole. This fanbase needs a reality check. Until it understands that I will continue to try to guide it in the direction I believe is best. People can listen or not but I'm still gonna do it. Do I have that right on here darlin??

Honestly u have a problem grasping that I don't have a problem with people being happy, but with people keeping it under control so they don't turn negative like they did this past fall. This isn't some hippy pow-wow lovefest this cfb.

Probably couldn't decide cause u r incapable of understanding what I said. Which is obvious when you make a stupid comment like this. I don't mind disagreement but you show the incompetent card when all u got is stupid comments.

It is my opnion and that's what I said. I'm more than happy to discuss where it's flawed but of course you can't comprehend the root of my conclusion so therefore all you can say is it's flawed which to me says..."I really am to dumb to understand this but I shouldn't agree so I'll make a stupid comment". Good job Corky :good!:

Just to clue you in, the majority of the time, the ones who are positive now, are the ones who are positive in bad times too. It isn't us "sunshine pumpers" that you need to worry about "crashing" if things don't go as planned, it's the ones who look for any and every reason to be negative. As a matter of fact, they are already being negative and there isn't any need for it. There isn't anything to be negative about right now. Not one thing.

It isn't your place to "police" the emotions of volnation, nor is it mine I suppose.

And exactly WHO do you think has the responsibility of making sure he has a quarterback in the game who will actually run the play that the coaches call?? I defended Dooley way too long and if they had hired almost any d-coordinator other than Sunseri he would possibly, if not probably, still have his job. But the bottom line is the buck stops at the head coach and it's his responsibility to control what plays the quarterback runs, along with everything else that goes on during the game, ultimately.

then don't you think it's a little early for an "eat crow" thread?

I didn't read the "eating crow" rules.

Seems Goat had low expectations for CBJ in the recruiting aspect. He now has recruited better than Goat had expected. CBJ is out there getting Vol fans excited and nothing has shown that he can't coach. Like I posted before, he is doing everything he can right now and seems to be not only excited about it, he's also doing a good job.

Goat never said he didn't think CBJ could win 10 games this year and is now eating crow.

Obviously, it is way to early to judge CBJ's tenure at UT just yet. But if the man (EG) is feeling better about our coach and wants to eat some crow, let him eat some crow. You may or may not wish to join him, and that's cool too. :)

Yes I think the guy was done wrong. 2.5 seasons to get it done with the mess UT was in is ridiculous expectations. Have no problems with cbj and hoping he does great cause that means UT is doing great. But if this fan base doesn't learn to simmer its expectations some cbj could face the same fate. That's what I've been trying to say. Like it or not. Understand or not. Is what it is.

Btw - its been stated by, deerpark iirc (whomever the poster is that is in the AD), that the coaches would be levied with Bray after games cause he would change plays and not do what they wanted him to. This would affect the gameplan immensely. Never said dooley didn't have his bad moments but knowing this I can't judge the guy as a bad gameplanner. Imo

Also, the call at the end of the Mizzou game to many was a bad one. To me it wasn't. At first I was upset when I saw him kill the clock but after a second of wondering what he was thinking I figured it out. He confirmed in his presser what I thought was the reason too. The guy is a lot smarter than people think he is imo.

then don't you think it's a little early for an "eat crow" thread?

This thread was started by an original Butch Jones hire skeptic. He said HE was ready to eat crow and wondered who else might join him. That's all. Us "sunshine pumpers" didn't ask the question or start the thread. Just to clarify.

Because i'm feeling in a giving mood. A little gift from me to the "less than positives" of VN.

I love the sentiment....but think I will just stick with what my poor ole dead momma use to say

"Talk is cheap"

and remembering Mom's words of sound advice, I will wait till CBJ and staff do something before I declare them the second coming of Tennessee Football...when they do I will give them their do

I have already said, I celebrate their recruiting successes of late

ISorry, but I had to step back in before this poor thread dies......:)
