Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Just because I have two ears doesn't mean you must say it twice.

Well I'm glad to see ur response was exactly what I expected. None at all. Went right over your head. Just a stupid joke cause my phone died and didn't think the first one uploaded so reposted. Good job budddd :good!::crazy:

It is amazing that you know Wilcox on a personal level. Please, tell me more.

Made a lateral move, at best. Took Peter Sirmon with him. Frank Wychceck and some local guys did/do have a personal relationship with Sirmon and that's pretty much what he/they was/were saying. Just sayin.

I love the sentiment....but think I will just stick with what my poor ole dead momma use to say

"Talk is cheap"

and remembering Mom's words of sound advice, I will wait till CBJ and staff do something before I declare them the second coming of Tennessee Football...when they do I will give them their do

I have already said, I celebrate their recruiting successes of late

ISorry, but I had to step back in before this poor thread dies......:)

I will agree to disagree with you as far as the approach on CBJ. I will however give you "Kudos" on understanding the real value of this thread. :hi:

His success here was wildly overrated. Very weak SEC, got his ass handed to him by the only decent team in the SEC (UF), had a pretty lucky run one year for the NC, etc. Look, I am happy he had success here but I am not blind to the conditions of success he had in the 90's.

And, dear God, don't ever mention his name in the same sentence with General Neyland. Don't insult General Neyland like that.

Do you ever find it interesting that a 152-52 guy with an NC hasn't been able to get a job despite being reportedly interested in still coaching?

Limped out? Really? He wrecked the program. The reason Kiffin/Dooley didn't have success was directly due to Fulmer's incompetence.

He got exposed for he who really was; a fraud. When the other guys in the neighbor stepped up there game by getting serious with their football programs and hiring top-flight coaches, Fulmer started to tank. It was not a coincidence. He was getting exposed for the quality of coach he really was.

It is amazing that so many on VN still are living in the nostalgia of the 90's with no concept that it was smoke and mirrors in the sense that it would have never happened in today's SEC.

Well well well um um um go find another team to root for if your going to be so negative then. We don't need this type of negative opinions around here. Stop trying to change people's opnion on Fulmer as its not ur responsibility or place to change the 90s or our thought on him. Understand Mister?? :).

It's funny how we agree on things on this side of the ball but pretty different in our other convo. Ha!! But it is good to find people who are able to have civil discussions without "feelings" dictating it. :hi:

My Mom died six years ago and no one was a bigger Volunteer homer...and no one knew less about something they loved with such devotion...she adored Coach Fulmer and any questions as to his job security were summarily dismissed...she died with him still gainfully employed and with the advice to never let somebody tell me WHAT to know...cause until you prove otherwise...I know as much

Sorry bout your mom... she seems a lot like mine..

By the way, I really like what I have sern from CBJ and company so far....just still filling a little gun shy

The standards for Tennessee football were by no means set by Fulmer.

No, they weren't, agree. The standards were set incredibly, even ridiculously high by General Robert Neyland. My point is that our program has never since approached those standards, except during Fulmers reign. Wouldn't dare say, and didn't say Phil was in Neylands league, but record and results are what they are, no?

You forgot the part about having a pretty good OC and DC while he was here that made him look quite a bit better.

Oh, howdy Coach Majors. I thought you did a fine job, too. I was in school in the late 80s and was proud of the teams you put out there too. You're a legend in my mind. But you just didn't have the success that Phil did. God bless you coach.

Not too overly compelled to build CPF up, and not too overly compelled to tear him down. So, for the record, that is what a head coach is supposed to do.

Like a CEO hiring the right people to run his company. Picking the right assistants makes or breaks 90% of the coaches out there. Maybe even 95%. It's tops on the list of priorities.

Feel the same way. Not trying pump up Phil at all. Just felt the need to state a few facts. I scratched my head many, many times when Phil was roaming the sideline, especially in the second halfs of many games. But 152-52 and a national championship is.... 152-52 and a national championship. Especially in the context of where our program sits today.

For somebody to get on here and spew that vitriol and try to the rewrite the history of one of our programs most successful and storied periods just isn't right to me and it needs to be pointed out, IMHO.

I certainly don't disagree

If "better than Derek Dooley" was the criterion for the hire, then we should have just torn down Neyland Stadium and moved the Ag Campus closer in.

I am not crapping on Jones at all. I just think it's way way premature for a victory lap.

We thought Jim Donnan was the "real deal". He'd won everywhere he'd been, including NC's at Oklahoma as OC, and Marshall as HC. And he started out, and finished, recruiting with a bang. He was our 3rd or 4th choice as HC.

Point is, hype is great. But you gotta let the guys work between the sidelines before you crown them the 2nd coming. Patience.

In your responses you blame Tyler Bray for jacking up the great Dooley's playcalling. Did you learn that from your favorite coach? My point is, you say support the team and yet you throw players under the bus. You are a Dooley fan more than a Tennessee fan. Another thing, it has been well documented that Dooley distanced the program from former players and the press while he was here. Did it ever occur to you that the real reason he did this was to avoid being revealed for the fraud that he was?

I was wondering the same thing. Most QB's are given the option of changing the play. They're called audibles for a reason. Could quite possibly be that the audibles that Bray had to choose from were just as crappy as the original play called.

If it truely was a PROBLEM as he sugests, I really do not think DD would have had him as the starter. To tell me the "The Coach" knew his QB was changing plays without regard to what the coach was saying, and then not bench him for the rest of the year........Not buying it.

Thanks and the positive posters on here aren't trying to get anyone to jump on board before they're ready...if they ever are..the tiffs on here usually occur when someone who hasn't bought in mocks fans that are excited about what Butch has done so far...we're not idiots...we know success is proven on the field...we just want to do our waiting and seeing with a smile on our faces

Right on the money Butch....as usual 👍💰

Someone please tell me how excited to be. I want just the right amount.

How many actual posters have crowned CBJ at this time? I see several people who are hopeful, and complimenting what they feel has been positive.

Methinks your concerns are unfounded. Or you've used hyperbole to build a straw man. Take your pick, depending on your actual motives, which I won't attribute for you.

This isn't just for you. This is for anyone on here who chooses to exaggerate the positive posts on VolNation for the sake of arguing a point that isn't in question by very many members here-- namely that it'll all be proven between the sidelines, one way or the other.

We know that. We get it. Let it go and allow some posts to comment on current positives and hope for the future.

Excellent Crush. Not sure why this is difficult to grasp. Well said.

Whatever makes you feel good. That's the right amount.

Huh? It's on you. You either are or you're not. Free will my friend.

Since I suck at specific measurements and like to go by my gut feelings, I guess these are good answers.
