Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Here's the far more likely and actual story.

Gruden offered a good offer. Gruden declined. Mullen was the back up, he said no once Florida didn't land Kelly or Frost. He wanted to go back there. Currie panicked and blew UT football into the stone age.

If that's so, Gruden and Currie should of let the fans/players/and potential recruits know Gruden was a no. Now it looks bad on Gruden and Currie. Why not just say "no it won't work out for us" and move the **** on??

If Gruden never comes, he has the worst ego ever. Regardless of why he doesn't come, there is NO REASON for him to drag it out.

I am still in shock over how today unfolded.

I don’t see any way to have a positive outcome at the end of today’s events. Currie is a moron, Schiano loses his job possibly, Gruden realizes we are a dumpster fire, university looks awfully incompetent, and we scare away any other coach who might be a good hire. Honestly, worst case scenario all around. How could this be Currie going rogue? I’m so confused.

Exactly this. There are no winners. It will be a long, long time before we recover from this.

Why can we not just hire competent people in positions of leadership?

This is a failure on every level, and nobody is above reproach. Not the BOT, not the boosters, not the University administration, not the AD, and in some ways, not even the fans.

The best thing that can happen is that Currie resigns tonight and Fulmer take over the AD until they can negotiate with Blackburn (if he'll even come).

Currie cannot be allowed to continue on. It's just not feasible.

I will not support any more atletics over there untill Curry is fired. He cannot be allowed to make our next football coach hire.

Preface this by saying, for the umpteenth time, I'm still in on Gruden. It's not about whether anyone believes me, it's about trusting the what I was told and the person who told me. I absolutely do, and internet admirers and scoffers alike aren't going to change that for me.

Opinion to follow:

This is Haslam. Last minute attempt to do EXACTLY what he did in 2012. Back door an unacceptable coach in an attempt at grasping and clawing to remain the controlling force behind UT Athletics. I don't say guiding force, because that would imply a direction in mind.

It's about the control, plain and simple. It's gone on too long. It has to stop. If the Haslams won't step aside graciously, they need to be forced aside.

I'm still on Gruden, and I hope that the people who did the very real work to get him to the Hill will send the message home to the Haslams for the last time, that their time is DONE.

One person's opinion, FWIW.

Im still catching up, but had to stop to respond to this. This is the only thing that seems logical to me at this point in the search. I’m sure my opinion will get flamed by naysayers, but you can’t convince me that Currie in his presser where he admitted there would be no search firm and someone with integrity that knew how to win at a high level, schiano was the guy he had wrapped up the whole time. Beyond that, the Gruden leaks literally 2 hours before this news came out. Appreciate the people who are bringing info with good intentions here.

I repeat there are NO insiders on VN not even Fingers (just posts public accessible notes and YouTube videos on practice).

Did beaver ever say that Currie would swoop in and look like a hero?

Or did he say that the athletic director would look like a hero?

Who hired Currie? The ut president? Haslam?

Who was against the hire?

I think Currie has been set up to be replaced by who ever somebody originally wanted to have the job.

Blackburn?
Fulmer?

I think we have to look at what happened today and see it for what it was. This was a complete railroad job by the Haslams. I don't claim to know anyone or have sources but if you ask the insiders in here I would bet to a tee none of their sources come from the Haslam family. Their sources were railroaded today by a strong arm tactic and a botched power play by the Haslams. As someone said this thing had to burnt to the ground to build it back up and this rebuild has to start without Jim Haslam and his bunch. John currie is going to end up being the Haslams pawn in this whole thing. They knew they had to get him in over Blackburn and Fulmer to keep control. It backfired on them today.
