Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

They’re buddies
Haslam did a 12th hr muscle flex to try and control everything
Currie went dark and was at the OSU/Mich game last night to do said interview.
Sunday:
CBS breaks Gruden story, USA Today breaks ****uno story and all hell breaks loose.

I suspect a statement was taped last night...

You know who else knew Schiano was coming? Charles Davis. He warned us on Saturday to keep an eye on that game in reference to the coaching search.

Wife and I drove down to Neyland yesterday from Virginia. I finally feel like we were heard. Funny how a sign she was holding had a bigger impact than donating thousands of dollars a year can. Makes me sick.

I am on the Board of Trustees at a local college and if I am not mistaken, they made the Davenport hire and had to bless the Currie hire. Have not looked into who is on our BOTs but, it might be time for a house cleaning as doo doo always rolls down from the top.

indeed

Not much to say, the last 15 years have seen the demise of the academic reputation minus 2-3 degrees and the athletics bottom out.

We said good bye to the good ol days of the Fulmer era and Summit era, and have seen what was once the top rated best value college education in the late 90's to being ranked Best Colleges & National Universities at 103.

The hope and optimism around a VC firm and Gruden and any recollection of making UT important kept many of us hoping, and waiting. As of now, not much to say.

I said last year that I couldn't believe Northwestern (my other alma mater) was a better football program than UT.........I still can't believe it. This is beyond pathetic and sad. Never in my life did I ever think we would be where we are.

Thank you and her for caring enough to do so

He's term limited. Next stop: president... of UT.

Tennessee is a big enough state that one family should not be able to push their agenda unimpeded. I just don't get it. They need somebody to stand up and tell them to go stand in the corner.

They are idiots with money.

Morning, friends.

I have no hope left for the program. Not here to discuss Gruden, or even the coaching search in general.

But there is one positive to come from all of this: I got to meet some really awesome folks whose presence in VN.com was completely shrouded from me before this all started.

Thanks for being awesome. I do appreciate you. No idea where the program goes next, but I do appreciate you.

So, soon?

The refusal of Currie to acknowledge or address the people concerning this search, wither intentional or not, comes off as arrogant and dismissive .... If I handled the folks at my business this way I would not have one in 30 days ....

If Currie is not fired after this cluster of events, then I have zero hope that Tennessee will ever be anything but a Vanderbilt East

Arrogant, dismissive....please add INSULTING and COWARDLY.

Well, watching Golic and Wingo is sickening. They are making this out to be a situation that we the fans created. Meaning if Schiano were a sexier more successful name his PSU association would be overlooked. At that point I turned it off. Oh they did state Gruden was never an option. Personally speaking, this will be my last interaction on the message boards for a while. I love my alma mater as much as all of you. We want to be Tennessee again! Gruden could have, should have shot this stuff down. He had his chances, he soaked it up instead. At this point, he turns my stomach, too.

My only hope is that this great big embarrassing mess reveals the problems, hope the problems are removed, and that “Tennessee” people are put in place at the University I love.

I wish all you fine people a blessed holiday with family and friends. After all, that’s really what matters.

Hopefully what we witnessed yesterday was Haslam's last stand. Now that he and Currie have been neutered, the new guard can step in and do what they've been hoping to do for years.

The entire debacle yesterday felt like a kick in the gut. Our admin embarrassed us. However, I liked and agreed with this post from Twitter last night. Elite media members such as Kirk H and others will continue to rip us up and down, but our fan base has standards that were set well before they came on the scene and will continue long after. I'm proud of any and all who stood up and said no to Schiano.
SIAP.

@TNsWesBoling
Cynics forget that Tennessee fans' standards of coaching conduct are Pat Summitt and Phillip Fulmer. Integrity matters in Knoxville, even if it's increasingly irrelevant elsewhere.

This is just a thought. There are no confirmed reports (that I've been able to find) from either our AD or OSU's of SCHIANO being a done deal and wether any MOU was signed. It seemed to all start from Dan Wolken a sports writer for USA Today. Our fan base and media were so anticipating a home run hire, but because of the recent poor hires and the low morale all over (media print and radio, social media, Twitter, forums, etc.). As well as the worst season in our modern football history. We fell for it hook, line, and sinker. One thing is for sure though our voice was loud and it was heard. This might still turn out to be good in that HOH should see the writing on the wall. Please don't tell me I'm wearing a tinfoil helmet. I'm just not ready to give up on Gruden coming to the Hill. Do I trust Currie? Nope. We should've hired Blackburn. We would've had our man by now. GBO!

This is where your voice should be heard.
Let it be known that the Haslam family reign needs to end at UT.
No to a Haslam as UT President.
No to a Haslam choosing our AD and Coaches.
The University needs to say that it will find money elsewhere to make up for what the Haslams give.

I hope that something good comes from this like the removal of BOT members, Davenport, Currie and the Haslams taking a back seat or removed as well

The Haslams thing I don't see happening ... Money talks

The only one I feel might take a fall is Currie. Davenport only had to know of and approve his choice so she can use The argument that it was his doing.

Also Tennessee will not fire a female in authority over this.
(I am not sexist just honest)
