Official NFCCG: 49ers @ Seahawks

Were you embarrassed by Larry Bird's trash talking as a white man? Dennis Eckersly pointing to batters after he struck them out? Kyle Turley throwing a Jets player helmet?

Legitimate question

Trash talking between the lines isn't the same as going off on a mic on national tv. Shouldn't have to explain that.

Maybe Sparty was right...

All I was doing was discussing what was out there. The reaction to me here was misinformed, juvenile, and ignorant by a couple of posters. If people can't understand or discuss a topic, they should stfu and move to gaming thread or something more their style.

This isn't directed towards this website, but all over the internet. Why do middle aged white men love to use the word thug when someone trash talks?

he acted like a clown on national tv. The criticism is not limited to middle-aged white men

here's what Sherman put in a recent blog post:
There is a very common misconception about me that ends today. It seems some people believe I lack respect, especially for my opponents. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

now, does that appear to really be true after the way he acted last night?

No, but the usage of the word thug seems to be limited to that demographic.

not really at all. I've seen it used all over the place, along with punk. Punk and thug are often used synonymously to describe someone acting like, well, a punk or a thug, regardless of race. Marshall Henderson acts like a punk and a thug and nobody cares who says it.

I thought this was funny, at any rate, due to reporters talking about how angry he appeared to be and how scared Erin Andrews was.

I love that in the Dre Beats commercial Sherman is asked about being a thug (something I'm sure no journalist has ever asked him) and he puts on his headphones like to shut out the clearly undeserved negative media attention...and the commercial premiered last night. Just so perfect.

pretty ridiculous isn't it. And Sherman gave the idiots their fuel. Idiots fueled by an idiot.
One of the things I was referring to last night when trying to discuss this deal

Nope. Take note of what I posted. I am not surprised by what they said, but that they would put their name to it in a public forum.

There are a lot of folks out there who will leap at any opportunity to say terrible stuff:

I really couldn't care less what a football player or coach has to say after the game. I watch because of the game, anything that happens after it is pointless. And really, I don't give a **** what Richard Sherman says. I don't think he's a thug, which is a term that is liberally thrown around by frightened white people. He's good at what he does on the field. And that's all I care about.

Sherman acted like complete idiot and I thought his comments were classless. Erin Andrews expression was hilarious, though.

Why do we not have an embedded video yet?

All that said, that was a heck of an athletic deflection which saved the day for the Seahawks. I can understand Sherman being fired up and proud of himself, but his delivery needs some work.

Bruins Fans Calling Joel Ward The N-Word - Chirpstory

Nope what. Its not ridiculous? Give me a freaking break. The racial comments are ridiculous and Sherman's actions are as well. Period. The whole thing is and wasn't necessary.

Nope as in what surprises me most is the number of people who will attach their names to these racist twitter comments. I posted the links about Joel ward to show that people will take every opportunity say terrible things.

Yeah, it's all ridiculous, but I've learned it's almost inevitable at times. Sherman is a troll. Pure and simple, that is what a troll does. It's ugly, it's undignified, but for the effect he was seeking, very powerful.

The question for me is why seek that effect?

It makes it worse IMO if he's intentionally trying to bring out the bad in people.

I respect his playing ability but I simply don't respect his lack of humility and trolling

same thing happens with most big-time events like elections, shootings in FL, etc (even recruiting flips). I'm not surprised anymore that people don't understand social media

Now that's a very good question. I suppose there are people out there who just love attention and don't care if it is positive or negative attention.

Sherman is a poor sportsman and a loudmouth. I can completely understand why folks would tell their children not to behave like that under any circumstance, much less national television. I am sure he will be levied a big fine by the nfl for his antics and they will be deserved. But I am not going to pretend that I don't find the reaction of folks to be far more interesting than what Sherman actually said.

Just save it man, people will have their opinions.

Here's something to add for the casual observer

Richard Sherman explains the Crabtree incident and postgame interview | The MMQB with Peter King

I wasn't trying to change anyone's mind on the matter. I just thought it was an interesting article. I really liked video from NFL films with him breaking down game tape. It is impressive the amount of work these players put into the game. That's one of the things I love about Peyton Manning, all the work he puts into his craft.

Agreed. Sherman is an amazing athlete and a student/professor of his position, and the game as a whole.

At his prime, he's one of the best to watch at CB ever.

I also look forward to one of my favorite players ever, Peyton Manning, playing against Sherman and the Seattle defense.

I do think that Denver is the better all around team, and that Peyton should be able to continue managing the game as he's become accustomed to this year.
