Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

No doubt.

Of course, I'm biased.

I might be as well. :)

How are you feeling about next season? I'm really hoping Mozeliak & Co. don't try to buy a championship like their neighbors in Chicago. If we can shore up the bullpen and make some improvements to the middle infield, I'll be reasonably happy. I'm hoping and praying that Carpenter can be a contributor next year, because the thought of having a healthy Wainwright and Carpenter at the top of the rotation is very enticing, indeed.

About how I felt coming into the '08 season... like they'll be lucky to win 70 to 75 games.

Not even counting the obvious questions surrounding the entire pitching staff, I still tend to be concerned about the hitting outside of Pujols. Can Ludwick have the kind of season he had in '08 again? Will Ankiel hit 20+ homers again, if he can even stay healthy? They're really gonna be depending on a lot of guys that haven't proven they can do it year in and year out. Maybe '09 will be the year that Rasmus breaks out in the majors, who knows.

They're at least making an attempt to improve the bullpen, but I kind of get the feeling the rotation kind of overachieved this year. Be nice if Carpenter can come back and be healthy like you said, but I'm not counting on it. Outside of Wainwright... oye. Wellemeyer wasn't bad before he had arm issues, Lohse is wildly inconsistent...

Looks like the Cards finalized a deal earlier tonight to bring Khalil Greene to St. Louis. They had to give up a few pitching prospects that haven't yet been named, but I don't expect it to be anybody significant (hopefully Motte isn't one of them).

He had a bad year in 2008, but I'm betting he'll be a big improvement over Izturis. His contract isn't really all that expensive, either.

I consider $6.5 million to be a little too expensive for Greene... but hey, one need filled... a few more to go.

Besides, as much as I loved Reteria in St. Louis, at least we didn't pay $18.5 million over 2 years to get him. Silly Giants...

theres a better chance that the Cards sign me to a contract than them spending money to get Manny

also Pujols' comment that Manny should take a discount to play for a great city may come back to bite him when his contract is up..

Ahh, the season is getting closer. I am looking forward to crushing the cubbies this year. I've just got a good feeling about the way the season will play out for the 'Lou.

Quick recap of the first Jason Motte-as-the-closer 9th inning...

With the Cardinals leading 4-2...

- Lead off double
- Strikeout
- Groundout
- RBI single
- Double
- Hit by pitch
- Three run double
- Flyout

6-4 Pirates. Go Motte.

good god, today almost made me puke... it was like watching last years team (maybe bc it was last years team!!)... i hope Mozeliak is happy.. this is what you get for not getting a closer in the off season.. Pujols has 4 hits and they lose.. Kahlil Green is batting cleanup!!! Kahlil Green is NOT a cleanup hitter, esp. not batting after Pujols. Green also let a little league ground ball go under his glove, great start mullet man. Now i predict Tony will send Motte back out the next few days (to get his feet back on the ground), he'll blow up and they'll bring Perez back up.. then we'll be right where we were last year.. :beerf: drink up boys, its gonna be a long one..

That sucks. And Peter Gammons spent so much time hyping him up this spring.
