Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Can't believe last night... Got offered free suite tix to tm's game last week but can't go. Only to later find out it will be smoltzs home debut. FML

That sucks.

Smoltz looked good again tonight (against the Nationals...) & Pujols sent everyone home happy. Good times.

I love how the sports media trashed him because he didn't perform while trying to come back from an injury for that sacred cow in Boston. Now he is lighting it up for the Cardinals and I've yet to hear a word about it. Smoltz never gets enough credit for what he can bring to a team.

they say Smoltz was tipping pitches in Boston.. Dave Duncan figured out what he was doing and now the Cards are benefitting. Dave Duncan is known as one of the best, yet he's still underrated

Speaking of Dave Duncan, it seems as though he's pretty unhappy with both the front office and media in St. Louis over the trade of his son.

Uncertain future for Duncan, Cardinals - STLtoday.com

I suppose you can mark Boston off the list of possible destinations for Dave if he does leave St. Louis since it only took the Red Sox a couple weeks to figure out Chris sucks before they released him.

Cards just went 20-6 in August (read: took full advantage of the weak schedule over that stretch), and I think they're something like 25-9 since acquiring Holliday.

Tiddy, good to see you around VolNation. Haven't been on in a long time, but our Cardinals have been looking alright, huh? Hopefully they can take this momentum into the postseason.

Likewise clowers, nice to see you around as well.

Yeah, this team isn't too bad. Funny what a healthy Carpenter, decent #3 starter, and a couple additions to the lineup will do to a team.

Cards win again... hard to believe Pujols and Holliday both hit HR's for the first time.. if these guy both get hot during the playoffs, watch out

Franklin got the save but gave up 2 runs in the 9th on the day he signed his extension.. Tony said he seemed a little excited.. better calm it back down

Franklin has obviously been solid all year... but for whatever reason I still feel uneasy every time he takes the mound. Hopefully he can keep the way he's been pitching all year all the way through October.

just turned the game on today and what does Holliday do? Blasts another one.. this guy is amazing.. hopefully we can get a few more and save Smoltz

Wainwright allows 2 runs or less in 13 straight starts coming into tonight... and then gives up 6 runs in 1 inning against Pittsburgh's Double A lineup.

Pujols is obviously the runaway MVP, but I wonder if Carp will be penalized for missing a few starts early in the season. He's still going to have as many if not more wins than the other contenders plus one of the best earned run averages, but with significantly fewer innings pitched.

Holliday does it again!!!!!!!! Down 1 in the top of the 9th.. Pujols gets walked, Holliday wins it with a HR.. Smoltz started off rough, but what a game...

I read (and I forget where now) an incredible stat earlier today that said the Cardinals haven't lost ground in the standings to the Cubs since July 29th. That's crazy.

Technically, the last time the Cubs gained ground was on August 3 - the Cardinals had an off day, and the Cubs beat the Reds, so they picked up a half game in the division. However, the Cubs haven't gained any ground since then, and the last time they gained a full game on the Cardinals was way back on July 30.

It's a fun time to be a Cardinals fan. :)

Maybe that's what it was that I read, a full game. Thanks.

Wainwright is now 2 wins away from 20, Pujols is 3 homers away from 50, and as of right now the Cards have the best record in the NL. Fun times indeed.

well the steroid era is over and Pujols is well on his way to his first 50 HR season... I cant wait for the next time someone wants to argue about Pujols being on roids

I'm hoping we can clinch the division some time during the series against the Cubs. That would be a perfect ending to the regular season.
