Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Cardinals win game two 13-6. An offensive explosion!

They needed that with another subpar outing by Marquis. 5 innings, 5 runs.

Pujols hit #38.

Bad news however... Their hottest hitter, Gary Bennett left the game with a back strain, while Edmonds and Mulder are likely out for the year with post concussion syndrome and lingering shoulder problems respectively. Oye.

Cards win 5-2 to take 2 outta 3 from the Marlins.

Nice outing for Suppan... 7 innings, 1 run. Looks like a St. Louis pitcher not named Carpenter is finally rounding into shape.

A stellar 8th inning by Looper nearly blew the game before a nice little 4 run 8th inning by the Cards. Looper struck out the side around 2 hits, 2 walks, and 1 run.

Izzy had his usual eventful 9th inning in giving up 3 hits but somehow 0 runs.

Zach Duke (8-12, 5.01) vs. Chris Carpenter (12-6, 2.96) tonight as the Cards open a weekend series with the Pirates. Maybe they won't get swept this time.

Cardinals win the series opener 3-1.

Great outing by Carpenter, but what else is new? Complete game, 3 hits, 1 run, 8 Ks, and 0 walks. Good stuff.

72-61

Shawn Chacon (1-2, 7.88) vs. Jeff Weaver (2-3, 5.92) tonight in game two.

But seriously, who cares?

I care, man. I may not post here much, but I still like the updates. Thanks. :hi:

Ooh, thanks, vader, but I didn't mean it that way... I was meaning more along the lines of 'who cares, the Vols play today.'

Cards lose 1-0.

Shutout by the Pirates. The Pirates! We're talking about the Pirates!

Anyway, good game by Weaver. 7 innings, 1 run.

72-62

Cardinals take game three of the series 6-3.

Pujols went 3-4 with 3 HRs (42) and 5 RBI (114). Nice.

Reyes had a nice start... 6.1 innings, 9 Ks, 1 walk, 4 hits.

Hancock came in and in .2 of an inning gave up all 3 Pirate runs. Boo.

73-62

Already underway in Washington. Jason Marquis (14-12, 5.86) vs. Ramon Ortiz (9-12, 5.34). 0-0 in the bottom of the third.

Cards lose 4-1.

How embarrassing, Ramon Ortiz not only hit a 2 run homerun in the 8th inning, but he no-hit the Cardinals through 8 innings!

Miles finally singled and Pujols hit a HR (43) in the 9th.

Marquis pitched alright... 2 runs in 7 innings.

73-63

Jeff Suppan (10-7, 4.61) vs. Pedro Astacio (3-4, 6.12) tonight in game two.

Be nice if Suppan can continue pitching well.

Cardinals win 2-0.

Pujols hit #44 and Suppan pitched 7.2 scoreless innings. Good stuff.

Izzy came in and has his usual eventful 9th walking 2, but also striking out 2 to get the save.

74-63

Chris Carpenter (13-6, 2.87) vs. Mark O'Connor (3-7, 5.12 today in the final game of the season series between the Cardinals and Nationals.

Cards lose 7-6 and two outta three in the series.

Carpenter wasn't that good... 4 runs in 5.1 innings.

Izzy was even worse, but what else is new.

Wilson hit a 2 run homer in the 9th to give the Cards a 6-5 lead. Izzy comes in the bottom half to close it out and proceeds to walk a batter, hit a batter, walk another batter, then gave up the game-winning two-run single. Absolutely pathetic.

74-64

The Cardinals were within 3 outs of getting no-hit a couple days ago, now they start a 4 game series with the team that GOT no-hit yesterday. Neat-o.

Jeff Weaver (2-4, 5.34) vs. Miguel Batista (10-5, 4.34)

Cards win 6-2.

Alright outing by Weaver, didn't get crushed anyway. 5 innngs, 2 runs.

Spiezio is the offensive hero tonight hitting 2 HRs with 3 RBI.

75-64

I heard on ESPN radio that Izzy was going to be out for a while with a hip problem and season ending hip surgery had not been ruled out.

Who is going to blow saves for us now?

Probably who it'll be though. Izzy has pretty much set the standard this year on how to NOT close games. I'd imagine Looper gets to continue the tradition.

I'd like to see them use Wainwright personally, but that'd take away their best 7th or 8th inning guy.
