Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Looper gives up a double and single for a run before he's finally yanked in the 7th... 2 on, still no outs.

4-2 Cards

Ended up going to 10 innings, but the Cards won 8-6 thanks to two Pujols HRs in the 8th and 10th.

Looper with yet another decent start. All three relievers gave up a run yet they somehow won. Yay.

Christ, control issues, Wellemeyer?

Cincy has scored 2 runs so far, one was walked in and the other scored after a wild pitch.

Wellemeyer's night: 3.2 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 6 walks, 86 pitches, 43 strikes.

2-2, top 6

Encarnacion hit a solo HR in the 6th... unfortunately Flores quickly allowed the Reds to tie it back up...

3-3, top 7, 2 on, 1 out. Franklin in for Flores.

24 pitches later, Izzy gets out of it.

Please win now.

Miles, Eckstein, Duncan due up for the Cards.

I'm feeling a walk-off by Duncan.

So much for that. Miles walked, was sacrificed to 2nd by Eckstein, and Taguchi is pinch-hitting for Duncan.

Taguchi is pinch-hitting for Duncan.
...and it pays off for a game-winning RBI single.

Cards win 4-3.

Aside from Wellemeyer's dreadful outing, the pitching clamped down and only gave up one run the last half+ of the game.

25-30

Arroyo's arm is dead. This should be an easy W for the Cards. Id expect a lot of runs early and then a lot of runs late once the bull pen comes in.

Cardinals win 6-4.

Thompson didn't pitch too well allowing all 4 of the Reds' runs over 6 innings. Bullpen pitched very well again however.

Pujols and Ludwick hit HRs off Arroyo in the 7th to put the Cards ahead for good.

Mulder's return: Who knows.

The left-hander, rehabbing from rotator cuff surgery last September, threw off a mound for the first time since then on Tuesday. The team has been hopeful of him returning around the All-Star break, but after the session Mulder was more pessimistic, saying there's a chance he won't be back until next season.

"It could be August, it could be September, it could be April," Mulder said. "I couldn't begin to tell you when it might be."

The Cardinals were more optimistic. Manager Tony La Russa didn't see the session but said pitching coach Dave Duncan was impressed even though Mulder told the manager it "wasn't one of his best."

Tid, your guys are going to be the only competition for Milwaukee. Also, I've greatly enjoyed consuming copious quantities of A-B products with the good Card fans the last two days. I even had the privilege of sharing a Bud with Mike Shannon at his restaurant last night.

I'm not quite sure the Cards will be able to make a sustained run for a couple weeks at a time, so it'll have to take the Brewers really backing up to the field. They've both capitalized against their division foes so far this season.

Really cool that you got to meet Mike like that! :rock2:

Other draft picks for the Cardinals today:

RHP Clayton Mortensen from Gonzaga
RHP David Kopp from Clemson
RHP Jesse Todd from Arkansas
3B Daniel Descalso from UC-Davis
RF Kyle Russell from Texas
RHP Thomas Eager from Cal Poly
