Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Next game: vs. Nationals (3-2) today at 12:10 PM CST

Adam Wainwright (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Matt Chico (0-0, 5.06 ERA)

Cardinals win 5-4. Another solid outing for the Cards starting pitcher. How long can they keep this up? Izzy made it interesting, but ended up striking out the side for his 2nd save of the season.

Looper (1-0): 6 IP, ER, 3 K

Barton: 2-for-4, R
Ankiel: 1-for-4, 2-R HR
Pujols: 1-for-2, 2 BB
Molina: 1-for-3, R, RBI
Izturis: 2-for-3, R

Current record: 3-1

No problem, Vader... it's fun to update the thread when our Cardinals are winning! Tiddy used to be the official updater... so he can have his job back whenever he comes out of retirement, haha.

I guess that would mean they're planning on calling Colby Rasmus up to play CF if Albert goes down? Not a bad idea, but I would think they would play Duncan at first before Ankiel. Ankiel is a much more valuable asset in the OF.

Duncans been hurt

Cards win again 5-4, despite Reyes giving up a 2-R HR in the top of the 9th inning. Starting pitching was strong again, with Wainwright going 8 innings. The bullpen definitely needed the rest.

Watch Baseball Tonight's Web Gems this evening to see Adam Kennedy's spectacular play. It was pretty ridiculous.

Wainwright (1-0): 8 IP, 2 ER, 4 K; 1-for-3, RBI

Molina: 2-for-4, R, 2 RBI
Kennedy: 1-for-3, 2 R
Barton: 1-for-3, 3B
Izturis: 1-for-2, 2 BB, RBI
Ankiel: 1-for-4, R
Glaus: 1-for-4
Pujols: 0-for-3, BB, R

Current record: 4-1

Next game: vs. Nationals (3-3) tomorrow at 1:15 PM CST

Kyle Lohse (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. John Lannan (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Cardinals win 3-0. Lohse was very impressive yet again. It's going to be hard to decide who moves out of the rotation once Pineiro, Mulder, and Clement come back. Pineiro will be back next week, and I'm assuming Wellemeyer will move to the bullpen... or Thompson.

There were a couple of nice plays by Ankiel out in CF today.

Lohse (W, 1-0): 7 IP, 4 H, BB, 2 K
Isringhausen (S, 3)

Barton: 1-for-2, R
Ankiel: 2-for-4, Solo-HR (3), 2B, 2 RBI
Pujols: 0-for-2, 2 BB
Glaus: 1-for-3, BB, 2B
Ludwick: 2-for-4, R, 3B
Molina: 1-for-3, 2B, RBI
Izturis: 1-for-3

Current record: 5-1

Next game: @ Astros (2-5) tomorrow at 6:05 PM CST

Todd Wellemeyer (1-0, 1.80 ERA) vs. Wandy Rodriguez (0-0, 7.20 ERA)

Barton has impressed me so far. Nice games by Ludwick and Ankiel as well.

Yeah, Barton fits in nicely at the leadoff spot. He's definitely fast getting around the bases. He just needs to make more consistent contact... but maybe that's just me being so used to Eckstein making contact with just about every pitch he saw.

Don't worry. Lohse will fall apart soon enough.

Trust me, every Cardinals fan in the world is just waiting for the starting pitching to blow up like last year.

Until then, let us enjoy it.

:)
Lohse gives teams false hope every year. He will have a couple decent games back to back and people will start thinking "Hey, we got a pretty good deal here" and then BAM! with a barrage of suckness.

Cardinals lose 3-5. It was a very boring game up until the last two innings. The story of the game were the Astros HRs. All 5 runs they scored were from HRs, including Tejada's 2-R game-winning homer.

Wellemeyer: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 7 K
McClellan (L, 0-1): 0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER

Pujols: 1-for-4
Glaus: 2-for-4, R, RBI
Ludwick: 1-for-4, 2 RBI
Molina: 1-for-4
Ankiel: 0-for-4

Current record: 5-2

Cardinals win another close game, 5-3. Brad Thompson fell apart and only lasted 4 innings. He really needs to learn how to control his emotions better. Not much offense in this game, but the Cards somehow pulled out 5 runs on only 6 hits.

Reyes (W, 1-0): 3 IP, H, K
Isringhausen (S, 4)

Duncan: 1-for-2, 2 R, BB, RBI
Pujols: 1-for-4, R
Ankiel: 1-for-3, R
Glaus: 1-for-3, BB, 2-R 2B
Kennedy: 1-for-2, 2 BB, RBI

Current record: 6-2

Cardinals win again tonight 6-4. I don't know if this has to do with the competition they're playing, or if the Cardinals are for real. I mean, they took 2 out of 3 from a very good Rockies team... but I'm not sure about the Nationals or Astros.

Looper didn't dominate, but who would expect him to? Pujols was finally Pujols.

Looper (W, 2-0): 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 4 K
Isringhausen (S, 5): Leads National League

Schumaker: 3-for-4, BB, 2 R
Duncan: 1-for-4, BB, 2 R
Pujols: 3-for-4, 2 HR (2), 3 RBI
Ankiel: 2-for-5, 2 RBI
Glaus: 1-for-4, RBI
Molina: 1-for-3

Current record: 7-2

Cards lose 5-1. They just got dominated by possibly the worst team in the National League. Correia went 7.2 scoreless innings for the Giants... yeah, I've never heard of him before either.

In his second at-bat, Pujols hit one of the hardest ball I've ever seen hit... right at the left-fielder. It was just one of those nights.

Wainwright (L, 1-1): 7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 6 K; 1-for-2

Schumaker: 2-for-4
Pujols: 1-for-3, R
Glaus: 1-for-3, RBI

Current record: 7-3 (1st in NL Central)
