Sounds like a dandy. I guess Wellemeyer went downhill after the first few innings.
Not really. A catchable ball that Skip dropped ended up resulting in 4 of the 5 runs he allowed. He should have gotten out of the inning with just the Cain homer against him.

Wagner has been relatively injury-free hasn't he?

I wonder how long Lincecum's arm will hold up
I don't ever remember Wagner having injury troubles but he isn't expected to go out and throw 200 innings a year and his mechanics aren't nearly as violent.

I have no idea how long Lincecum's arm will hold. I don't know if he ever had problems in college or not. You'd have to thing it will give out sooner or later with all the stress he puts on that elbow.

I remember an ESPN article with him talking about how he's never had any arm trouble. That was about a year ago though.

Cardinals lose 7-4, after a rough season debut from Joel Pineiro. Like you guys were discussing, Lincecum is tough. It doesn't look real good when the Cardinals split a 4-game series with quite possibly the worst team in the NL.

Pineiro (L, 0-1): 3.2 IP, 10 H, 6 ER

Schumaker: 1-for-4, R
Miles: 1-for-4
Ankiel: 2-for-5, R, RBI
Ludwick: 2-for-5, HR (3), 2 RBI
Duncan: 2-for-5
Molina: 2-for-4, RBI

Current record: 9-4

Cardinals beat the Brewers 6-1. Again, Looper looked good in the early going, but he only lasted 5 innings. Pujols didn't do much after he hurt his hand putting a tag on someone to complete a double-play. Not sure what happened there, but hopefully nothing too serious.

Looper (W, 3-0): 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 4 K

Schumaker: 2-for-4, R, 2 RBI
Duncan: 1-for-3, RBI
Pujols: 1-for-4, R
Ankiel: 2-for-4
Glaus: 1-for-3, R
Molina: 1-for-4, R
Kennedy: 3-for-4, 2 R, RBI
Izturis: 1-for-4, RBI

Current record: 10-4

ST. LOUIS -- Mark Mulder was efficient and effective in his first Minor League rehabilitation start, tossing five innings on 60 pitches for Class A Palm Beach on Tuesday evening.

Mulder allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits. He struck out one and didn't walk a batter. He threw 41 strikes and 19 balls. Of Mulder's 15 outs, nine came on the ground, vs. five in the air.

The left-hander, who is making his way back from shoulder surgery in September 2007, threw a full assortment of pitches. He pitched at 85-87 mph on his fastball over the first three innings, hitting 88, before dropping to 83-85 mph in the fifth inning. Mulder threw fastballs, cut fastballs, curveballs and changeups.

It is expected that Mulder will return to St. Louis to throw a bullpen session on Thursday. His next rehab start will most likely be on Sunday for Double-A Springfield, which will be playing at home against Tulsa.

Cardinals beat the Brewers again 5-4. As always, Izzy made the game interesting in the 9th, but somehow got the job done.

Wainwright (W, 2-1): 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K; 2-for-3, Solo HR (1)

Schumaker: 2-for-4, 2 R, Solo HR (1)
Duncan: 1-for-3, 2 R
Pujols: 1-for-4, 2 RBI
Ankiel: 0-for-3, BB
Glaus: 1-for-4
Molina: 2-for-4, RBI
Kennedy: 2-for-4

Current record: 11-4

Cardinals drop the finale to the Brewers 5-3 in 10 innings. I was out golfing and didn't see the game, but looks as though Thompson blew the game-- allowing a 2-run HR to Fielder in the 10th. Lohse actually had another quality start, which might surprise a few people on this board.

Probably not going to win many games when the only offense is coming from Ryan Ludwick and Kyle Lohse.

Lohse (ND): 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 K; 1-for-3, 2 RBI

Schumaker: 1-for-1, BB
Ankiel: 1-for-5
Pujols: 1-for-3, 2 BB
Ludwick: 4-for-5, 2 R, Solo HR (4)
Miles: 1-for-3

Current record: 11-5
