I agree with you that they are missing 1 big bat, but they have someone on the team who can fill that void... Troy Glaus just needs to find his stroke. Also, Ankiel needs to be more consistent. If they're still struggling by All-Star Break, I think the Cards should try to pull a mid-season deal off.

I wouldn't count on Carpenter, Mulder, or Clement. The odds of those three coming back 100% healthy isn't very likely. Mulder has been getting rocked down in AAA-Memphis. He only has one more rehab start (May 10th) before they have to either put him back on the DL or call him up to the bigs.

Also, I wouldn't say that the pitching will "pick up" if they return. Starting pitching has been the strongest part of the Cardinals team so far this season.

Wow, he made that interesting.

Cardinals win it 6-5 after the Rockies put 3 on the board in the 9th inning. Two of those runs were charged to Looper, which sucks because he pitched a stellar game.

Ankiel made a couple throws tonight that you don't see very often, if ever. Make sure you check them out on Sportscenter. Ankiel also hit a HR, and Ludwick had a huge game at the plate.

Looper (W, 5-1): 8.1 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, K; 2-for-3, R, RBI

Barton: 1-for-5, R, RBI
Kennedy: 1-for-5, RBI
Pujols: 1-for-5, R
Ludwick: 4-for-4, BB, R, RBI
Glaus: 1-for-4
Ankiel: 2-for-5, Solo HR (6)
Molina: 1-for-4
Izturis: 2-for-4, R, RBI

Current record: 22-12

Next game: @ Rockies (12-21) tomorrow at 7:35 PM CST (TV: FSN Midwest)

Adam Wainwright (3-1, 2.60) vs. Jeff Francis (0-3, 5.26)

those two throws by ankiel, holy crap! so my roomate is a cardinal fan and he read on viva el birdo (cardinals message board) that some cub fans there at this weekends games were asking where hancock was and if any pitchers died today. this is the kinda crap we white sox fans deal with or if your sitting in the bleachers at wrigley. went with my roomates last year to wrigley to watch the cardinals take on the cubs, one a cards fan and cub fan. this cub fan (wasted) flips the cardinal fan(roomate) the bird and says f u. there were two wasted cub fans next to me saying some crap to edmonds all about his wife and such. not all cub fans are idiots, but the majority of them i've experienced are. excuse ozzie being a moron, wish he'd just shut up and manage the team. well cards fans like watching your team play! keep it up! GO WHITE SOX and GO CARDINALS!

I went to the Cubs game Fri and actually sat next to some friendly Cubs fans... maybe we just got lucky but it was a pleasant game even with a ton of Cubs fans around..

what about Ankiel, I love that guy  our cable went out yesterday afternoon and just now came back on :banghead2:, Ive been waiting all day to see those lasers

wow cards bullpen just blew one big time! cards were up 3-0 until wainwright was pulled....izzy got rocked again for 2 runs

Many thanks! El Cavayo comes through again. That was an awesome "get" for the Stros. On a night where they are walking Berkman and Tejeda went 0-fer we need that bat.

you can't take anymore of what? being in first place by 2 1/2 games?

UTCVol may be right, it's almost time for Chris Perez to start closing games in St. Louis. Here are Izzy's stats so far this season:

1-3, 6.60 ERA, 11-15 SV Opps (73%), 16 hits in 15 innings

He hasn't been looking very sharp. He's blown just about every one of Wainwright's wins. Wainwright is 3-1, but could very easily be 7-1 if Izzy didn't blow it in the 9th.

I've seen just about every Cardinals game so far this season, and Izzy just hasn't been getting the job done. He's got to be more consistent in doing his job. Izzy is the weakest pitcher on the team right now, and that's definitely not what you want from your closer.

Just do update the thread, Cards obviously blew the game last night, losing 4-3 at the Rockies. All 4 of the Rockies runs were scored in the 8th inning. Izzy sucked... once again. That's becoming the norm. Wainwright has another quality start, and doesn't have a win to show for it... which is becoming the norm.

Wainwight (ND): 7 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K

Barton: 1-for-2, R, 2 BB
Miles: 2-for-4, R
Pujols: 1-for-5
Ludwick: 2-for-4, Solo HR (6), 2 RBI
Ankiel: 1-for-3, RBI
Izturis: 1-for-4

Current record: 22-13
