Izzy needs to be benched... bottom line. Here are a few quotes from Isringhausen himself:

"It's just time for Tony [La Russa, manager], 'Dunc' [pitching coach Dave Duncan] and 'Mo' [general manager John Mozeliak] to figure out what to do," Isringhausen said. "Until I can get back on track or whatever the case might be, I'm sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down."

"We should have five more wins in the win column, in my mind," Isringhausen said. "We should be out in first place even more. They can't keep sending me out there when I'm pitching the way I'm pitching. I'm going to have to figure out some kind of remedy. I'm sure that remedy will give me some time off from the role and get someone in there who can do a better job right now."

"Now, I don't have an explanation. I'm pitching like a second-grader," he said.

"I'm sure we'll sleep on it tonight and I'll come in tomorrow and I'm sure we'll have a meeting. You lead the league in saves and blown saves ... it's not a whole lot of fun, especially when you're letting 25 guys down day in and day out."

well Im glad Izzy is owning up to his mistakes... the other night I hear the announcers say Izzy is the best pitcher they've ever seen at forgetting what happened the day before and moving on... not such a good thing in this situation

every fan base has a bunch of morons, but i've experienced more morons with the cubs fan base. guys sorry about izzy. i heard he said might as well not make him closer anymore.

well the story continues... Cards were up 5-4 in the 8th, Izzy comes in starts with a walk, a hit, then a 3 run bomb... Cards lose 11-5 :furious3:

I've been away on vacation without much access to the internet the last week or so. The Cardinals haven't been playing all that great, but they've managed a "W" here and there.

They finally put Isringhausen on the DL. Chris Perez looked good today and got the win.

Ankiel is hurt, but it doesn't seem to be too serious. There's no mention of Mark Mulder anywhere to be found. Glaus has been hitting the ball a little better since coming off the minor injury.

The starting rotation is beginning to fall back to earth.

Current record: 26-20

Cardinals won last night over the Padres 8-2. Ryan Ludwick continued his hot streak, and Pujols hit a HR that almost left the stadium.

Mulder has been shut down for 10-14 days. His rehab will continue thereafter. Ankiel might be out another week or so.

Wellemeyer (W, 5-1): 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; 1-for-3, RBI

Schumaker: 2-for-6, R
Barton: 1-for-5, R
Pujols: 3-for-5, 3 R, 2 Solo HR (11)
Ludwick: 3-for-4, HR (12), 3 RBI
Glaus: 2-for-4
Molina: 1-for-4, RBI
Kennedy: 0-for-4
Izturis: 2-for-5, Solo HR (1)

Current record: 27-20

Next game: @ Padres (16-30) today at 9:05 PM CST (TV: FSN Midwest)

Joel Pineiro (2-2, 4.46) vs. Greg Maddux (3-4, 3.98)

pretty sure Mulder is done... setback after setback

did anyone see Edmonds catch for the Cubs yesterday? pretty impressive

Cards lost 3-2 to the Padres last night. Pineiro was pitching a pretty solid game, but one bad pitch resulted in a 3-run HR and a loss.

Pujols and Ludwick, who have been carrying the Cardinals lately, were a combined 0-for-7.

Pineiro (L, 2-3): 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Duncan: 1-for-4
Glaus: 2-for-4, R, RBI
Molina: 2-for-3
Kennedy: RBI
Izturis: 2-for-3

Current record: 27-21

Pineiro pitched good last night, sorry to see his one mistake cost him the game... LaRussa says Miles and Ryan will replace Izturis and Kennedy tonight... if Kennedy keeps struggling, he wont be around long... La Russa is not a big fan of his

Personally, I would like to see Izturis at SS and Ryan at 2B everday... with Miles getting plugged in every now and then.

Good news... Ankiel should be back in action this weekend against the Dodgers. He's had two batting and fielding sessions without any pain in his shoulder. This is definitely a plus.
