Ok let's say we concede the fact that

There is no such thing as grace for a football coach. The bottom line for Butch is to have this team ranked again in the Top 25 and relevant by Year 3, being a serious contender for the SEC AND A Top 15 program by Year 4, while showing adequate progress at every point and step along the way in all facets of the program. Anything less is underperforming and should not be tolerated without Butch & Co. being called out by the fans and donors with pressure brought to bear, for whatever changes need to get made to his approach or staff to get back on track with adequate progress. It's way past time that we stop ALL tolerance for the pathetic state of this program. After the crap of Flummo, Kiffin, and Doofus, it's time for ultra accountability from our coaches with no excuses allowed for underperformance.

Who defines adaquate progress?
Clearly it's not going to be left up to the average dill weed on VN

Hey genius, have you even watched the games. The regression is in how we have been playing, not that we're losing. We haven't even been remotely competitive. We've been totally obliterated. Our defense is the same sorry sad sack pitiful piece of crap that we watched last year. No improvement whatsoever. Furthermore, we have performed worse on offense, defense, and special teams as the year has gone on. We haven't seen progress, we're seeing each week a bigger crap performance than the week before.

Good grief, I think the majority of our fan base must be alumni of Tennessee School for the Blind !!!

He gets it! Its more like the Alumni of The University of "I accept mediocrity and underachieving"

the gator board and vol board look a lot alike right now.

I was wondering where gator was. Let me guess everyone wants to fire the coach and hire a new coach over in Gainsville? Who they thinking? Can they hire Kiffin or Dooley please? We'd gladly give them both. In all seriousness I think Muschamp might just get another season to turn it around and maybe just maybe will get to keep his OC because all of the injuries that he has had.

SJT18 Didn't know you were a Dooley supporter. Man you go sold a bill. Maybe that explains why you want to have this coaching staff held accountable. The last one sure did a number on a lot of the people of this forum. So we're clear I wanted Dooley fired after the Kentucky loss. They should have never lost that game, ever even if you bench Bray and Da'Rick.
I support UT Football and whoever the coach is until such time as he has shown he can't get it done. I supported Majors until he showed he couldn't do it. I supported Fulmer through those Florida losses until such time as he showed he wasn't getting it done anymore. I never supported Kiffin and thought that was a stupid hire. I will support this staff until such time as the HC shows he can't get it done- not his DC, OC or any other member of his staff as they are his staff and his responsibility.

Now Lets talk about those last 3 games and see if this is something to be concerned about or if it is growing pains.

Here goes: Lets talk Bama first: They were insulted that 1) we fired their boy Dooley. 2) We insulted the 2 time NC by calling them the Red Team. 3) We had just broken a 19 game losing streak to ranked teams. 4) Injured QB and untried and not ready QB. When you put motivated, talented players across the field against motivated, but less talented, and less deep players you get that result. And they showed why they won the NC the last 2 years.

Missouri: This is a game where the O completely screwed the pooch. North lost a sure TD in the lights. He catches that ball it's a different game. Smith drops a sure TD catch as well. The competitive game everyone is yelling about was dropped twice in the first half and the undermanned Defense which had been pounded the 2 previous weeks by very physical teams ran out of gas in the midst of another physical team. The game could of been 31-17 or better with the O catching the ball, but by all means you guys argue over which FCS played them better when the game came down to execution of O.

Auburn: On ST we had lack of discipline and too many players trying to be heroes and make the big hit and losing their lane control. Read Give him six for more. When players are extremely fatigued, have numerous niggles and soreness that they are not getting over and they know that they are it for the defense and in some cases ST they try to make the hero play instead of doing what was coached into them. Numerous times in the game the safety ran into the box only to discover that the QB had the ball and was running past them. They could have blitzed all day, but still wouldn't have made a difference as this D team has had to play 70-90 snaps per game since game 3. Over a season that adds up to players making mental mistakes, missing tackles, taking the wrong angles and that leads to huge plays and not being competitive.

I've probably said this numerous times now. Just because a coach was fired, doesn't mean he can't coach! If that was the case, Belicheck, Dungy, Ryan, Philips, John Fox, Andy Reid, Turner, Shanahan, Carroll, Caughlin would not be coaches in the NFL and some of which have Superbowl rings. Patience people I know the last 5 years has been h3ll for you all, but I am positive that things are about to change for UT football until such time as this staff shows it can't do the job.

A great post for this time next year.

Simple common sense dictates that minimum adequate progress would be to have your team perform better as the season progresses not worse. Also, it is common sense that having your team get some better in terms of competitiveness and wins from year to year is minimum adequate progress. Comparing the statistical performance of the offense, defense and special teams are another common sense way to measure whether adequate progress is being made.
Is it really that hard for you to understand measuring progress and instituting greater accountability for results?

Common sense? Really.
Who is in charge of defining this common sense.
I just googled it and found nothing.
I'm begening to think your sense is less than common.

Phil Steele on talk 102.3 in Chattanooga pre season.

And virtually everyone else with a shred of objectivity. I said 6-6 was a solid start, and we might get there, we might not. But if we don't, you won't find me spewing some of the irrational idiocy I've been reading on here lately about "accountability" and "zero tolerance" for underperforming. I swear, people are thinking they're posting like a boss demanding excellence but they really make themselves sound like grossly ignorant football fans.

Well you are finally right about something. My sense certainly is not common. It is way above average when compared to the standard sunshine pumper program apologists that post on this board!

Kinda sad really.
I honestly don't know if CBJ can get it done or not. I also probably won't have an opinion till this time next year. And maybe even later.

I wonder what they would've said if they had known Auburn and Missouri were going to spend time in the top 10? I sure didn't see that coming.

Not the point - I was responding to someone who quoted Phil Steele as his source for the assertion that the Vols would go 5 and 7 this year and that is just false.

I know. I was genuinely asking what everybody's predictions would have been if they'd known what Auburn and Missouri were going to be. I, for one, thought Auburn at home was going to be a W.

comparing Auburn versus Tennessee is comparing apples to oranges. Would you "others" not concede the point that it is OK to expect the team to improve or at least "stay the same" and not regress from game to game like they have done for the last three games? Should we not expect their special teams play to at least continue to get better and not worse as the season progresses?
IMO if we don't have at least 8 wins next year, I will start to wonder.

Yes, we are all sunshine pumpers for allowing a guy to coach for at least a year with mostly someone else's recruits, one of the toughest schedules in college football, forced to play a true freshman QB against 3 top 10 teams in a row, while the whole team is learning a new system on both sides of the ball. Yet somehow all these facts are lost on you in the midst of your "demanding excellence and accountability". Please tell me you don't have kids.....I can't imagine what it's like living up to your standards.

He said 5 and 7 on the raido. Period.

But yet he publishes articles which say he predicts the Vols to go bowling. And he has been on other radio shows and ESPN saying the Vols would likely go to Music City Bowl preseason.

hmmmmmmmmmm.

It's unrealistic, but I don't even blame fans like 87 (other than taking things way too seriously and not being able to identify Tropic Thunder movie lines). The past 5 years has us all punch drunk as fans.
