Okay I was a bit harsh on Dooley.....

Almost as funny as people who lack the life experience to sympathize with someone who fails like that.

Yeah... and it is tempting to wish that someone like you at some point will experience that kind of failure and public humiliation. I'm sure you'll handle it so much better and will love it when people kick you while you're down. That's such a classy thing to do, you know?

Dooley failed. The non-sense being spewed here says a lot more about the people posting it than it does Dooley.

As far as I know... he hasn't taken public shots at UT, the AD, the staff, the players, or even the fans. Has he? Seems he's showing a good bit more class than many of you.

This is hard to argue against. Empathy is apparently something a large portion of the population doesn't experience. Heavy is the crown.

Waiting to see... Recruiting was admirable the first year, great the second, and currently is tracking to be "average" in the 3rd.

The coaching last fall looked downright bad at times. It wasn't just players lacking physical ability but them not understanding where they should be, failing to play assignments, and not showing evidence of being up on opponent tendencies. My HOPE is that part of last fall was part of a strategy to turn the program around... but until that happens it is wise to wait and see.

Not having the talent and the right personnel for what you want to do will do that to a staff sometimes. I would point to Saban's his first season at Bama, but that would likely incur the wrath of the Saban defenders here, so I won't.:whistling: But my HOPE is that you follow your own advice to wait and see and stop the constant criticism of this staff.

All you need to know about Dooley is the last 35 seconds of the Mizzou game in Dool's last year in which UT and Mizzou were tied and UT was on about the 38 yard line poised to score the game winner.

He had an NFL QB, WR1, WR2, TE and a free agent NFL WR3.....

What did he do....?

Let time expire.

Enough said.

Dooley sucked, but he was the only one that would take the job at the time. He did it for all the wrong reasons though. He knew a big payday was to be had and he played Hamilton like a drum. He cared nothing for UT just like the guy before him. To say he'd trade all his money for an 8 win season a couple years ago is plain ignorant. He hated it here.

Can we please stop saying Dooley was the only one who would take the job?

I knew Sgt18 would pop in here with at least 50 posts to defend his brother and try to wash away the actual history of how defunct Dooley was. At the same time he makes multiple comments about suspect coaching from Jones in year one.

You never get tired do you? Just keep pumping out the same tired BS over and over again. If only Dooley "tried" as hard as you did.

Yeah. You're such an honest guy... How many times really does someone have to say a coach FAILED?

Dooley did teach me a lesson though. You have to look at them ALL objectively. I hope Jones is great. But he has to PROVE it.

Do you never get tired of lying and taking personal shots?

I am sure part on his separation agreement and for monies owed that no comments about his former employer are allowed... He gets is money and keeps his mouth shut

I'm a little surprised that Mama Dooley hasn't chimed in by now...You know she is going crazy with former Vol players being so mean to "Precious". :eek:lol:

He didn't earn most of the salary he was paid prior to the buyout

He wasn't a very good coach. But if he had not fulfilled the terms of his contract then UT would have taken him to court. So I understand what you are trying to say... but it doesn't really matter.

I don't see the point of beating the dead horse and taking shots at Dooley but I'll be damned if anyone expects me to show sympathy for someone who got a $5 million buyout for being incompetent. If that means that I'm not as classy as you, I can live with that.

GO VOLS!

The Dooley era should be wiped clean from TN history. Might as well throw in Lame kiffin as well

There will come a day when all of this will make winning just that much sweeter. Maybe Jones takes us there... maybe someone else. But if we don't listen to guys like BeattieFeathers who expect and suggest they would accept mediocrity or worse... UT WILL rise again.

I know he tried. I know he didn't have all good players. I appreciate his effort. I should not knock the guy. I agree.

I agree that the buyout should have never been what it was. But I was here when it was being negotiated and UT really had no choice. They'd gone down the "list" and been turned down by several coaches. IIRC, that included Marrone and Muschamp. They got to Dooley who was willing to take the job for less money than others... but being a lawyer he "wisely" wanted and got a big buyout.

Dooley wanted to be his father, and Hamilton bought into the fantasy. The problem was, Dooley is really his mother. He's much better at quipping in front of a camera or playing the room at fundraisers than he is at coaching. Pretty soon, he'll give up on trying to make it as a coach and end up making millions on TV.

sjt18 so you coached some jr college to national championship was out recruiting Saban and he paid you to quit so he could get some players and then you started a top 50 company in the world and all the recruiting and coaching searches come to you for information? Oh and you walk on water but yet your life is so dull you have to troll a massage board to get your thrills? Why not just fly around in your jet and consult the coaches. you do have your own plane and you fly it yourself right? the most interesting man in the world takes you advise?

Lawyer and Dooley really does fit...

I have been around enough to recognize the pain of failure and not to take shots at people because of their failures even if they seem to deserve it. What is the point of having contempt for someone who has already failed? What does it say about a person who DOES have contempt for someone who failed?

My experience is what it is. I've had a good career and reasonably good success at leading different types of organizations. I've seen the good and bad... success and failure.

If any of this makes me a "bad" guy according to you worthy of your smart aleck post then I guess that's just one more scar I'll have to live with.

I have not unfairly criticized the staff and won't start now. They did not get all that was possible out of the '13 roster. They did not show signs of being an elite staff. I still hold out hope that Jones has a plan and they'll turn out to be the type of staff that Daj's numbers suggest they are... overachievers. But if I learned anything from Fulmer and then Dooley... its that you don't have to close your eyes to the bad to be "fair" to a coach or appreciate the good they do.

FTR, Kiffin didn't inherit a team with ideal personnel. Dooley didn't either. Both made do with what they had and managed not to lose to anyone they shouldn't have lost to. MY HOPE is that Jones is a coach so disciplined to his scheme and system that it takes more than one season for players to really begin to execute it regardless of talent or whatever. I'm hoping that it really is THAT much more critical for Jones to have players that are suited and developed for his "system" than other successful coaches.

Those are my HOPES... but they won't cause me to ignore facts that aren't so positive.

Be interesting to see how may assistants UT went through from 2009 to 2013.. He number could be 20 or more

This is so sad. Move on people. The guy did his best and it wasn't good enough. He did a lot of good as well as bad. He jeopardized his health and put his self in the line of fire so you could sit on a computer and *****. He upgraded the facilities, started some good programs, and brought in some good talent, he wasn't able to make the most of that talent, but he did give it a go...it just wasn't good enough. That was a potent high scoring offense he fielded. We paid him for his efforts and he moved on, so should you. Just get on with your lives.
