I didn't see any qb play really well. Ugly. I wonder if they were forcing the offense to work on deep routes . I never saw a screen. For a real game this was may too much on the qb. They need to be able to manufacture offense. Kept looking like they were trying to get it all in one play and therefore no rhytym. Situational stuff was rancid for offense.
No other way to say it. Worley looked awful. At least Peterman can run out of plays.k

you may well be right on working the deep routes, after all it is practice and the fans were there, did they do a lot of running plays or not ? all I've mostly seen are post about passing plays

Actually liked how Tom Smith played tonight. Made the most of his opportunity with Lane sitting out. Love how he runs north/south and doesn't mess around.

When they started out 1s vs 1s they ran the ball pretty good......but when they tried to pass the defense was getting to the qbs pretty quick. None of the qbs looked better than the others. It is easy to understand why they have not named a starter. He did make the freshman qbs live during the scrimmage. They saw live bullets and looked ok. I would go with one of the freshman and let them learn on the job the first 2 games.

Did I really see Jordan Williams get the best of Tiny in the one-on-one session? Good for Jordan, we'll need him to step up with Jacques on the mend.

I wonder if any of you understand what practice is for or scrimmage in practice. I do not know who the QB starter will be. I have been around here long enough to hear these same comments concerning other teams and QB's. Bottom line is you cannot tell much by watching one practice or a scrimmage where the coaches are intentionally trying to create situations.

would you rather let them wait till Oregon and Florida to learn?

No. I suspect that the guy who has already started SEC games... who has experience, talent, and development... will start and do just fine barring injury.

You jump to a huge conclusion based on hearsay and one open practice. You assume that the best option is one of those green Fr. That is STILL extremely unlikely.

What expectations? I've said all along 5-7 and we would be lucky to win 6. Our QB play will look like Crompton/Stephens pre-Kiffin

Some have argued BJ inherited more talent that DD. while that may be true, he did not inherit more talent at the most critical position on the field. This could cause some major issues.

You can tell a lot.

The scenario where the coaches kep creating a last second game winning fg, and Palardy kept missing said fg....tells a lot.

I get both your thoughts but I have been around long enough to know that scrimmages don't tell you anything. "Legends" have been born out of scrimmages that never amounted to anything during games on both sides of the ball while dozens of qb's have been given MVP's or benched permanently.

good points.

Worley crumbled under the lights. I think once it started raining he didn't adjust mentally. Peterman,Ferguson and Dobbs stepped up through the rain. I loved that. Guys I think Worley is not the one. He was stiff and had no it factor. If Peterman started it would be because he came on strong and showed a level of confidence and maturity we didn't see in the spring. Just an opinion. Also Butch shoved alot in an hour and a half. I was shocked at the speed of practice. Butch gets it.

Darr looked great IMO. I did notice him shank 1 punt, but all of his other kicks were high, tight spirals and were good for 40-45 yards.

Lots of drops by the WR's. I'm sure the weather had a lot to do with that, but it's still discouraging. A couple of drops were because of bad throws by Worley too.

Palardy looked consistently inconsistent, as usual. He did make a 52 yarder at one point, but struggled a lot once it started raining hard.

I saw a couple of Dooley practices and several Kiffin practices. CBJ's coaching style (at least, from what I've seen in this practice), is more similar to Kiffin than Dooley. Kiffin treated practice much more like a game than Dooley did. Dooley would often slow down the tempo and take lots of time to address technique while Kiffin and Butch would put the team in game-type situations. I didn't see Dooley do that too much.

I think Butch Jones's drills were better than Kiffin's. Kiffin paid very little attention to special teams at his practices, and Butch put the team in several special teams situations tonight. Butch played to the crowd a whole lot tonight. The players and fans loved it. You could see them giving great effort tonight.

I think Kiffin was a good practice coach, but made several questionable decisions during games, and continues to do so at USC. We'll have to wait and see how Butch does in that regard. However, based on what I saw tonight, Butch prepares better than our previous 2 coaches.

Dobbs looked very comfortable in Butch's offense, especially when they were doing hurry-up in the 2 minute drill. As far as Butch's speed of practice, it really reminded me of Kiffin's practices...just as efficient, but IMO, more effectively executed and better drills. And you can tell the players want to listen to Butch and get better. I liked that.

Palardy did struggle tonight with FGs but I didn't see anything from Bullock to make me think he could be an option. Was VERY impressed with Palardy's punting however.

I thought the offensive line was going to be our strength this year. After this practice I think they looked like the weakest link behind the QB's.

I hope Butch takes a long look at Peterman for the Austin Peay game. I think the job was Worley's to lose, and I believe tonight he lost it. Time to go with the best option that will help you win. And from the looks of it, it isn't Worley.

I didn't go to the game tonight but based on everything I've heard and read, I say take the red jerseys off these QBs and make them live. It's not like one is that much better and i think live game simulation would would be a better litmus test. Be different if we had a definitive starter.

Tonight... Worley struggled and did nothing to separate himself from the rest of the QBs. In fact, Peterman gained ground and Dobbs & Ferguson showed glimpses of what they can do.

:good!:

Truly believe Peterman will be the one left to transfer after all is said and done. This year will be Dobbs and Worley, possibly Peterman and Dobbs. Ferguson needs a year in the strength program. With our 2 opening opponents, don't be surprised if a freshman either starts, or gets a lot of playing time early. Just my :twocents:
