Oregon game - Who's coming to the game?

I think it'd be fun to go. Oregon seems like a beautiful place and Autzen is a stadium I'd love to go to, just because I've heard it's so loud. And I need to get to all of my states before I die. But it's not gonna happen this year.

Unfortunately, the very best time of the year to be there, as in any portion of the Northern Rockies, is in the heart of football season. It just doesn't get any prettier than in late September, when the aspen have turned gold, the weather is cool and crisp, the elk are bugling in the canyons and, if one is supremely lucky, the peaks have received a fresh dusting of snow.

I was up there in July and it was wonderful. I live in the foothills of the Cascade mountains in an area surrounded by National forests. We have a couple herds of Elk around here 60-80 each. Then tend to "play" on the local golf course quite often. They can cut up a green like a hot knife through butter. Also a few cougar, bear and fox around. My wife and I were floating a river near our house last summer fly fishing and we had to pull over and stop because seven Elk decided to cross the river about 50 yards in front of us. Not wise to float into a couple bucks with their cows and calves.

I had a younger couple (from Oregon) ask me if we had tornadoes in Tennessee. That was about 30 secs before it hit.

They didn't like my answer, nor what happened over the next 15 mins.

Yea, we don't get that kind of weather out here very often. I think a couple funnel clouds have been spotted in the last 50 years. Not sure if any ever touched down.

I will, I'm living in Lake Oswego, or " Lake No Negro" as some folks call it..lol !! VFL pimpin' !!! I just need to find a reputable ticket scalper !! In before that's racist imo ! :loco:

Well there's no doubt you live in Lake O. Before I retired my office was in one of the brick buildings off Kruse Way.

Right now my wife and I plan on flying in to Portland for the game. My parents are considering coming as well. Just have to make sure the money works out right for it.

I recently moved to Denver. The woman that I rented from for a short time has a son that plays for Colorado. She made the trip to Eugene this past season. She said it is very expensive.

Do you have any suggestions on cities outside of Eugene where I may be able to get a hotel for relatively cheap? I checked StubHub to get some idea on ticket prices....kinda steep. I haven't checked what filghts are going for, but that might be the deal maker/breaker.

I will try my hardest to get out there!

I'll be there for sure b/c its only 1.5 hours away, plus my parents will be flying up from Texas (both alumni, too). Can't wait. I'm trying to find a home game to go to this year, that's the expensive trip for me.

You ask a great question, first the Eugene/Springfield area (in my opinion) has very affordable hotels. What I would do to save money is 1) check with Lane Transit District for "Park and Ride) info for the game. Parking at the stadium will probably run $20 plus or minus. Park and Ride will cost about $8. 2) check for economic hotels near "Park and Ride" locations so you can walk from the hotel to the pick up spot. 3) Springfield has historically been less expensive than Eugene, might try the "Gateway" area as there are plenty of hotels and chain restaurants in the area.

If you do want to stay outside of Eugene Springfield, I'd look at Cottage Grove (about 20 miles), Junction City (20 miles) Coburg (10 miles). Might want to check B&Bs in Coburg or up the McKenzie River. Honestly, I'm not sure you'll find anything cheaper outside of Springfield.

GoDucks, there is a lot of great flyfishing around Knoxville. Here is a good resource if you are ever back in the area:

Thanks, my wife and I are considering taking a "road trip" now that we're retired. Rods will be packed. I've got a couple places I'd like to fish around the country. Over the years I traveled 49 states on business, found a few spots I'd like to throw a line in NY, NH, NM, CO, WY, AZ. TN and KY look interesting as well.

If you stay in PDX for a night you will be staying in one of the best cities in the country for food!!! I traveled 49 states urban and rural areas and without a doubt, PDX, for it's size has great restaurants.

My favorite cities for food are New Orleans, San Francisco, NYC and Portland.

I'll be there as long as my ticket connection doesn't fail me. Not a long trip for this Vol fan.

Our plan at the moment is to stay in Portland Thursday night and head towards Eugene Friday. I'll have to do some research so we can pick a couple good spots to eat.

Just curious, which state have you not been to? Part of the reason my Dad wants to go is he's been to 49 states and just needs to add Oregon to reach 50.

How is the weather in Eugene in mid September? I'm debating making the trip.

Virtually perfect in my opinion. Typically high 70s during the day and about 50 at night. Plus, we don't have humidity issues like like back east. Maybe an inch or two of rain for the month. Leaves may just be starting to turn color, of course it's nothing like fall back east we don't get the cold snap to cause leaves to turn bright colors.

So I'd say a like jacket or wind breaker for night and shorts, short sleeve shirt during the day. Eugene prides itself as the "Running Capital of the World" so athletic gear and casual wear fit in well. Obviously, Orange isn't a very "liked" color in Eugene......... See the rodents from Oregon State (black and Orange). Of course Tenn Orange is definitely a different color. You'll be better off with the letter "T" showing on your orange gear.

West Virginia. I was headed there on a business trip about 20 years ago. I'd landed in Dallas to change planes and got a call from my office that a flood had taken out the facilities I was suppose to visit. Canceled trip returned home. I've seen it from about 10000 feet but never had my feet on the ground.

In Portland check out "The Inn at Northrup Station" reasonable price, located near some very good restaurants, and it's next to the "street car" line. Large rooms with full kitchen, sort of edgy retro design. It's where I stay when I take the wife to PDX for retail therapy. Included in the room price is a free pass for the street car line. The street car takes you downtown as well as through several good shopping areas, including Powells Bookstore (Must destination for anyone who reads books at all). Powells is either the largest bookstore in the country or the second largest, might be one bigger in NY

One thing I dislike the most about Portland is that it's very expensive to fly in and out of here. Flying back East can be very expensive, especially to Atlanta (usually 500-1000+/person). Seattle/Tocoma is a 3 hour drive or train ride from Portland and the ticket prices to/from Seattle to Atlanta can be 1/2 the price. Not sure if that works for some people, but it can significantly lower the cost of coming out to the Pacific Northwest.

I think that's a good point. I think it's just that SeaTac serves a much larger population base with good connectors to Asia.

Thanks. Sounds great. I always have my Tennessee orange on. I just ordered two new hats and t shirts. Hopefully I can make the trip out. I've been north south and east but never very far west.

If that is the case, don't forget the North Fork of the Flathead, located on the western boundary of Glacier National Park. All of the streams emanating from Yellowstone (e.g. Gallatin, Madison, Firehole, Yellowstone) are, of course, legendary among fly fishermen. Areas in Colorado that you will particularly enjoy are the majestic San Juans (Ouray-Durango-Ridgway area) and the Maroon Bells, near Aspen. If you make it to Durango, take a step back in time aboard the Durango & Silverton Railroad (Home | Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train); it is one of the last operational narrow-gauge railroads in the country and has been featured in countless western movies. You might also like to try your hand in some of the streams in extreme eastern Idaho, near Tetonia and Driggs, on the quiet western side of the Tetons.
