Path to a #1 seed

Based on our track record the Aggies will shoot lights out on Saturday. Wade Taylor IV will go for 30.
That's exactly what I said yesterday.
After thinking about it though, it's about time for us to play a solid game that gets everybody hyped up again. We're good for one about every 3 games. Both ways. Roll A&M and LSU and then shite the bed against Alabama.

The only way Tennessee gets a #1 seed is to win out and at least make it to the SEC Tourney Championship game. If we finish with only 6 losses after the Conference tourney, we have a decent shot depending upon how other teams finish. Seven losses on Selection Sunday will not get it done, IMO. I would love to get a #1 seed since we have never done it before, but I will be happy with a #2 seed. We have some really tough games coming up with @ A&M, Bama, @ Ole Miss, plus whoever we face in the SEC tourney, so I fear that if we don't play well we could drop to a #3 seed. Without a total collapse, the worst we will be is a #3 seed. That's a pretty good year, although after going undefeated in the pre-conference schedule, I was hoping to be closer to where Auburn currently is.

If we win our last five games we'll be a #1 seed and the conference tournament won't matter one bit.

Conference tournament doesn’t matter- they’ve proven that. It also depends on what other teams do. If Bama and UF have 2+ more losses, it gets interesting regardless. UF and UT are almost interchangeable right now.

Conference tourneys absolutely do matter when choosing the final 1 seed. If it's a close race they look to see who does better in the tourney
Not really. They meet before the Sunday finales and have already placed most teams. Just like us winning in 2022, they didn’t move us. They are looking at geography, number of SEC teams and where placed, and the S-curve. I guess swapping us and UF is easier because we are in the same conference. But generally, much of it will be set.

Just noticed start time for our game with Alabama has been moved from 1pm to 4pm. No official announcement from ESPN but I’ll bet College Gameday is coming to Knoxville that day.

look no further than UNC advancing further than us last year. If we had beat Miss St and they lost the opener we would have gotten the 1
Except that the committee had already stated the top seeds were set, kind of disputed that. And as @VolGee4 said, the year we won the SECT we didn’t budge, and the committee again said that they had the top seeds set.

they said several times on tv, maybe not the committee but the talking heads said if we beat Miss St and UNC lost we would have gotten the 1

just had a Clemson buddy tell me today that he expected Clemson to be a 6 seed before the conference tourney but if they won it they would be a 2 or a 3 seed
