Penn State scandal (merged)

Uh listen as social worker and working with children myself I know in this state you are required to notify the police or DHS. End of story. If you dont then you get what you had here--swept under the rug. You tell DHS or the law and tell your boss.Plus, You CANNOT be fired or disciplined for notifying the law or DHS either. That's why they anonymous hotlines to notify them.

I pasted the appropriate Pennsylvania statute.

Anybody excusing the GA and yet calling for Paterno's head has absolutely no credibility in this argument. I will say it again. The GA should have intervened to stop the act and the GA should have personally reported the act to the police.

I agree.

I'm not excusing anyone. Including JoePa.

These are my thoughts also.

Agreed. Both are at fault. Joe Paterno had a legal, moral and ethical obligation to report it, which he did, but he also had a moral and ethical obligation to follow up. He didn't. How the GA did nto stop the act is beyond me. Stunning and at a loss for words.

Absolutely agree. I'm not understanding how this scandal won't affect JoePa's legacy as some on here are arguing.

Is anyone disagreeing? Of course, but it didn't happen. When it did get to Joe pa, he effed it up. It's really that simple.

What if we agree that the GA should have done it himself, but we also think that, once involved, Joe Paterno should have done more?

Nobody has said this.

Essentially, what the administration and Paterno did was put the reputation and interests of the football program, by covering it up, over the interest and obligation to the children and to the actual academic/research mission of the University. For that, all should be ousted. Period.

Fire JoPa based solely on this incident. We'll need something to follow on court tv over the summer. My Astros suck anyway, and the Rangers havnt made any good trades yet.

I think if they attempt to sh!t can him based solely on his percieved lack of due deligence in the matter at hand, he has an oppotunity to go after the University.

Leach is still fighting his case. Granted Leach is half Paterno's age and may eventually get a check cut.

I'll agree he needs to retire, but not based on his involvment (on any level) concerning this. Joe should have quit when he got trucked on the practice field.

Something tells me that Paterno may not want the spot light of a legal suit. I dont think that spot light would shine very brightly on him. Again, any decisions on Paterno and Spanier will likely be made in Harrisburg by the political brass, not State College.
