Penn State scandal (merged)

No, and I suspect (as crazy as it sounds), there may be something to this story.

I am of the belief that a very broad system of corruption is at the very core of this story, and that we will be shocked when the details surface. Paterno will get buried in the backwash of the coming developments.

You shouldn't assume things.

+1. Just can't understand how McQuery can continue to work at a place which allows this type of crime. Is the job worth that much?

The only thing I can think of, which doesn't exonerate him, is if it was strongly suggested to him that he not go to the police.

I think that and/or a possible payment will come about. That said, he still shouldn't be out there right now. Again. Simple, common sense.

brb guys. Saying you're full of assumptions while making broad generalizations about the opinion of the people on this board. No, I won't read the whole thread to find out what everyone thinks about the situation.

You're just wrong.

If I was in his situation, I couldn't live with myself. There's nothing to excuse him.

Are you home schooled? Applying that to this case sums up the word stupidity perfectly.

No, its why so many of you look like morons since you cant see the obvious connection between McQueary and the way the REAL world operates. If you think that you can jump your own boss and go to an "ethics officer" to report a violation within your own company, then by all means proceed at your own peril. Likewise at Penn State regardless of the circumstances when you are a friggin Graduate Assistant! Sheesh.

Wouldn't info about these kids getting pimped have been uncovered in the grand jury proceedings?

Not necessarily. You go to the GJ to determine probable cause on a specific crime...in this case, the 8 victims named. It's quite possible they are still compiling the case for sex trafficking, in which case there will be a superceding indictment.

You might be correct in many ethical situations. The only difference here is that you cannot lump child rape into the list of normal ethical dilemas.

You have got to be kidding me...

"Son, I know you thought you did the right thing by calling the police when you saw that boy being raped in the shower. But because you didn't notify JoePa first, I'm afraid we're going to have to fire you."

I see. Thanks

From Clay Travis: "Only reason McQueary still has job is because Penn State is afraid he'll sue if it fires him. Could have mega whistle blower claim."

Guess that explains it.

More from the guy who wrote the April column that predicted this mess:

"McQ dad a key. He was there when McQ talked to Joe. Knows exactly what was said. Cud catch Joe in perjury. Wont let son cover 4 Joe."

"Thats Y McQ is still coaching. Once he's out, he's gonna talk. PSt trying 2control that as long as they can."

Paterno has never been the sole focus. I guess you just haven't been paying attention. There were over 40 pages dedicated to just discussing the GA. Paterno definitely knew enough to be fired based on what he testified to knowing. Everything else is just what else Paterno might have to face such as criminal and civil litigation.

No junior, you're not paying attention. Paterno has been the sole focus of this flamefest for at least the last 24 hours. I said 2 days ago Paterno needed to resign and its pretty damn obvious he had to be terminated in the wake of this media firestorm. Still, you dont know what Paterno knew, and you dont know why he was fired. Like the university rep said, "we dont have any more information than has been reported by the press" which means there is a lot more that WE dont know.

McQueary would have been lauded as a damn Hero if had gone to the police. Same for Paterno.

How do u draw that conclusion? Pretty upset with janitor, da, ad, and grad asst. Paterno should have done more of course but he is getting lions share of blame which isnt right.

Captain goes down with the ship.

I will aim my pitchfork at The GA now.

Who could? Just saying that this junk has gotten crazy, and if it's crazy now, it's going to be loony later.
I'm confident, right now, that there was hush money floating around in the air, and the air was thick.

lol I didnt say that, if thats what you interpreted then I hate to inform you....

I believe I used the phrase "compromise" as in his job. None of you guys know what you would have done in McQyueary's position, none of you. Sorry.
