Penn State scandal (merged)

Now, it is entirely possible that Joe didnt really understand the gravity or extent of the abuse by Sandusky.

Still, "fondling" and "doing something of a sexual nature" in relation to a 10 year old boy is a concept that is easy to grasp. I don't give a crap if you are 84.

So I'm going to disagree with your assessment that it's entirely possibly that Paterno didn't understand the gravity/extent of the abuse. And I'm going to say that your assessment sucks. The gravity and extent of the situation described to him alone is enough to warrant a need to notify the police, even if that is all he knew.

Even still Paterno did not even call Sandusky into his office to explain himself,

Did anyone just hear what they played on "the drive"? My dad just text me and said they were playing some audio that suggested that Sandusky was pimpin out boys from his organization to the highest bidder.. I didn't hear it and wondering if any of y'all did?

OK I'll take this one since it was probably directed at me. First of all I have said that its entirely possible that Paterno may have misrepresented (lied) to the GJ about what he knew. Actually I said he may have "mislabeled" it, and as most of you must realize by now, Joe has not been exactly playing with a full deck for quite some time now. He is at best right now a doddering old senile idiot and a shell of his former self. But you guys will probably want to argue about that too. lol

Now, it is entirely possible that Joe didnt really understand the gravity or extent of the abuse by Sandusky. His generation has little experience or exposure to the subject of pedophilia, unless they themselves are the ones committing these heinous crimes. It is likeky that JP didnt know all the details, or even believed Sandusky was guilty of what was reported. Thats entirely plausible, the 98 incident not withstanding.

Again, this proposition that you guys know everything there is to know is pretty ridiculous, and its not so much about what that Report says, its what it doesn't say or address.

That is an unfounded assumption on your part. His "generation" knows as much as any other generation about rape, abuse, pedophilia and criminal activities.

Plus the common knowledge around the state is that Paterno had a handle on everything going on in his program. Sandusky played for him, coached for him and was his heir apparent. He knew what was going on.

Now, that said, I do agree that we don't have all the facts and I'm also making assumptions. I fear the facts will be even uglier.

Yes, just a rumor as of now.

I wanna understand your ethical knowledge so I will pose the same question as I did for a guy earlier.

You own a business where somebody has been robbed in the last year are you ethically required to put a warning sign up?

How about - if you run a college and know that children are being ass raped in your facilities, are you ethically required to put up a sign? Nope. Are you legally, ethically, morally and common sense required to put an absolute end to it? Yup. Did JoePa end it? Nope. Having knowledge of the crime and not doing everything in his power to see that the criminal was brought to justice is so wrong in may ways on JoePa's part - I hate to say it, but JoePa will also be prosecuted. Not just in public opinion.

Not really. It's not like he told a police chief or an actual law enforcement officer. He told an administrator at the school who happened to have the title. Who was also arrested for perjury.

Perjury because he lied and said that he notified certain authorities and said that they were investigating the matter. I am sure he told Paterno the truth, though, that he did not really notify any authorities.

Well thats total horse-****. Unless you are 80+ years old then again you are just making an assumption. A wrong assumption. Like I said, it may be entirely possible that Paterno didnt believe (at the time in 2002) that Sandusky was guilty. YOu guys are just playing a guessing game.

Even still Paterno did not even call Sandusky into his office to explain himself,

Because he already knew Sandusky did this kind of thing.

His conversation with Curly probably went like--"hey, Jerry got caught with another kid in the shower. This time its not a dumbass janitor who we can fire, its one of our GAs that saw him. What's that? Yeah, I think giving the GA a job on the staff will keep him quiet."

Yea, I'm sure Paterno believed him. Considering there was never an investigation of a an eye-witnessed child rape.

But he was senile. And probably forgot.

No, genius, he should just sit on it and allow rapes to continue while hiding behind that protocol. That's what Socrates would do.

Don't you know? Aristotle would have gladly sit ideally by as young boys were allegedly being pimped out to big time PSU donors.

Exactly. I'm sure theRealUT is right on it; Joe simply forgot about an allegation that one of his close friends was raping little kids. That's one of those things that slips your mind.

I thought you didn't like making assumptions before all of the facts are in?

LOL There's so much of this silly argument that is pure speculation, what I am for is not convicting the man in the court of public opinion until we have more details. But of course you have already ordered the lumber to build the gallows.

But you're all for making a case in his defense based on nothing but your imagination. Nice.
