Penn State scandal (merged)

Oh I'm sorry all knowing one. Here's what you really meant, "He should have been held responsible, but not really that responsible because he's now senile."

I'm sure that's not an assumption....right?

I never even implied that.

"And yes, he appears to be on the leading edge of dementia."

Thats an observation based on the weird comments JP has made in the press over a period of time, and not necessarily attached to this case. I'm not putting Joe's mental capacity on trial here, but if you guys think he's playing with a full deck you're all crazy. And its his state of mind that MAY HAVE had a bearing on what he did or didnt tell the GJ.

Well thats total horse-****. Unless you are 80+ years old then again you are just making an assumption. A wrong assumption. Like I said, it may be entirely possible that Paterno didnt believe (at the time in 2002) that Sandusky was guilty. YOu guys are just playing a guessing game.

How old are you? Do you know anyone older than 25? Do you need me to pull up a list of child abuse cases from the 1950s to convince you? What about passages out of the bible? Heck, NAMBLA** has been around since the mid-70s so I'm pretty sure that people of that generation knew about these acts.

**North American Man Boy Love Association--an actual organization that promoted the relationships between men and boys.

By the way, I'm 48, I don't need to be in my 80s to know what they know, just like you don't need to be my age to know what I know.

But you're all for making a case in his defense based on nothing but your imagination. Nice.

Wow, am on Volchat? lol

I'm not defending the man, but I'm not convicting him yet either. You guys are overlooking the big picture here and there is much more to this story. Its not so cut and dried as some of you think.

And it aint a stretch to believe Joe's mental capacity is faltering. Thats not a defense, but if he lied or mislabeled information to the GJ then that plus the generational gap MAY be an explanation. a

It’s not so much about a “special duty” because Paterno is a famous football coach. It’s about the ordinary duty Paterno and others at Penn State have to prevent known sexual predators from succeeding. We don’t yet have all the facts about what Paterno knew, and when he knew it, and what he did about it. But we’re going to. That’s what discovery is for.

From the article you cited.

So now assumptions are okay?

I think says it all...

Can you let me know if it's moral to allow a self-admitted kiddie diddler to use your restroom to rape prepubescent boys?

Maybe I missed something, but when did Sandusky admit to the 1998 incident and who did he admit it to?

This is a serious question, not sarcasm, but maybe I missed something in the Grand Jury report.

Wow, such intimate knowledge of NAMBLA. lol

JP has been in State College for what....66 years? Its is entirely possible that he has been sheltered from the subject of pedophilia for all these years don't you think. You guys are truly hilarious, if all this weren't so sad I would have to call this the best free entertainment I've ever had. Now you are associating Paterno with NAMBLA? This is just too much, And BTW, just because NAMBLA exists doesn't mean Paterno knows anything about them, or especially that if he doesn't know about them that he approves of it!

I'm not one for calling names either, but sometimes you just have to let people know that they are stupid

Its better to let them know, than to continue letting them go through life believing that they are making common sense judgements

People gotta quit wearing their feelings on the sleeve

Yes, you did. Read it again.

Ok.

Was that police interview public information? Or, was that then known only by Lauro, Shreffler, and the mother?

If it was public information, then I agree that Paterno was in the wrong.

You're right. Paterno had no idea what was happening. The GA just came up and said, "Hey coach, I just saw Sandusky railing this kid in the shower." And Jo Pa responded, "Hahahahaha. Good one, man, how bout a promotion to WR coach and recruiting coordinator."

Yep, that sounds plausible to me.

The bolded portion is what will be uncovered in Sandusky's prosecution and any future civil suits. I'm having trouble reconciling JoePa's testimony with McQueary's. JoePa stated that McQueary told him that Sandusky was "horsing around" with a kid in the shower. Meanwhile, McQueary gave a detailed account of the rape in the shower. When I think about this event and the other allegations, I can help but believe that if JoePa didn't know, he should have known.

That is a key part that is missing from the story so far. The 98 incident was reported to the campus police who turned it over to the State Police. They investigated with the assistance of the boy's mother and had taped conversations but Sandusky never fully admitted the deed. Consequently the DA felt he did not have enough evidence to prosecute and dropped the case.

Within a few months of that event, Sandusky was told that he was no longer the heir apparent/head coach in waiting and in fact, no longer employed by the university. He was given Emeritus status which gave him an office, parking spot, facility access etc, but required to resign from coaching.

There is a logical leap that the allegations led to the resignation, but that has not been proven yet.
