Penn State scandal (merged)

Look, this thing is being investigated and it will all come out eventually. Neither you nor I have all the facts at this point, you're only speculating about what you know. Justice will be served, there is no way around it in this media firestorm. I'm on the side of the victims here and you guys want to string up Paterno, but in the meantime Sandusky is walking around on a measely 100K bond. Now THAT is disgusting!

It's absurd to assume that justice will be served when dealing with an ivory tower. A bunch of kids had their lives royally screwed because of said ivory tower.

I don't have any interest in stringing up Paterno. I want adults to do what adults should in protecting the defenseless. He was in a position to get this right and almost nobody else was. He let a bunch of kids down in being a derelict.

so unless you have seen a 10yo boy being raped by a defensive coordinator in the locker room shower you can have no idea how you'll react? Ok I see your point now

Stop being thick. Have you witnessed anything as serious as what McQueary saw?

seriously? Hearsay is a mortified kid coming in and telling on a PSU legend? Regardless, it was more than enough to make the average adult do some serious due diligence.
I thought a GA saw Sandusky with the boy in the showers and that GA went to Paterno. So it is hearsay to Paterno right?

Exonerating his dereliction with technicalities is for our half baked legal system, not for adults wanting kids to be safe from this kind of cover up.

We're not talking about the law at this point, we're just talking about Paterno merely being aware that Sandusky may or may not be a sexual predator -- if that's what he knew and IF it was in his power to see to it that Sandusky was no longer welcome at Penn State, then he should have. But we will find out.

Not sticking up for him at all. I've said i'd do more than he did. But legally he's not obligated.

Be that as it may, the fact remains that he's going to be remembered for being taken down by a pedophile. That's his legacy now.

I thought the 90s incident didn't have an eye witness. I could be wrong though. And I didn't think he raped the kid then.

I believe that is when the mom confronted Sandusky and he admitted to it. The cops told the mom not to speak to anyone.

Not only that, and I hate to tie this to football, but their program will be in ruins for at least a decade after this. The troubles in Knoxville will seem like a speed bump in comparison to what this will do that program.

but it doesn't validate your point. The vast majority would be so repulsed as to want to end the problem immediately and would want justice served for the kids' sake.

Maybe it's a parent thing and McQueary wasn't there yet, but I don't know many folks who would have stopped at telling someone and then watching nothing come of it.

What boss hears a charge like that from a subordinate and does not call the accused into his office for his side of the story?

Exactly. Paterno had a responsibility as an adult to to help prevent this from happening. It's only magnified because of the position he is in.

attempted rape? Yes but it was not of a 10yo boy so it doesn't count

Also, I assume the raper wasn't a defensive coordinator and it didn't occur in the locker room showers, right? If not, you have no idea how you'd react.

If you did see something like that and acted more than McQueary, then good on you.

I just don't understand how most people can put themselves in that kind of hypothetical situation is all. This isn't directed at you specifically, but this "If I would have seen this, I would have done such and such" crap is ridiculous. You didn't, you haven't, it's not your job to judge or do anything about it, shut the hell up.

But if you use the Hearsay argument and JoePa did not believe his GA then why not call them both in to explain themselves.

Just hard for me to see, when I would have no doubt that it took everything the kid had to come and tell me. McQueary had to be scared to death in telling that to one of Sandusky's friends, mentor and boss.
