Something isn't adding up.

If I put my wife and newborn on a plane to go across country, its pretty much a done deal. Something is off.

I'm sure he had an offer before getting on the plane. Maybe his wife was reluctant to move and he wanted to bring her and give her the opportunity to meet people that could help her career and sell the area to her?

The question is how much money would have been enough?

CBJ and the AD have business considerations as well.

Since all of these salaries are public record, every other coach on the staff would know what he was getting paid. They have equity issues to consider as well as managing the moral of the rest of the TEAM of coaches.

Further, he may be a great coach, but there has to be an ROI on everything. Is he going to make that big of difference in the big picture? He may be the fan favorite, but will it truly equate to bettering players wearing orange and more wins on Saturday?

It's always easy to spend money when it's not yours and you have no responsibility for the outcome.
The answer is yes he would have made a difference in recruiting and play. It doesn't mean we can't do the same with the staff we have now. But Tee is a difference maker to say he's not is angry rhetoric. He's still VFL.

Has to be the right fit? Are you serious? If any place is the right place for Tee Martin, Tennessee is it. Can we just call this what it is? This is personal and it looks horrible on Tennessee and looks horrible to recruits in regard to Tennessee. Tennessee's own NC QB didn't take the job and elected to remain in Lane Kiffin's shadow. It's a slap in the face to all Vol Fans. There is no reason Tee should have made this public if he knew he likely wasn't going to take the job. Do a phone interview, respectively decline over the phone and keep it private to allow Tenn to save face. Tee Martin publicly rejected Tennessee and it is what it is.

How do you know that he knew he was not going to take the job before his visit to Knoxville?
Many of us have been Vol fans for decades. We would love to see our NC QB return to the fold. But, can you for one minute look at this from Tee's perspective? He was REJECTED by Tennessee when he really wanted to be here. He spent a year at New Mexico, 2 years at Kentucky and has been at USC for only a year. That's a lot of moving and he has a family to consider.
In other words, this is not about "us", the fans. It is about a man who is making a career decision.
I for one, respect his decision...

It's a a business decision, yes. But after this, I hope Tennessee never offers Tee another coaching job. Doesn't deserve another chance to come back here. Have fun at USC, Tee. Don't come back.

He deserves to come back if he ever wishes. I'm willing to bet he has contributed far more to the University of Tennessee than you, or 99% of posters on this board ever will.

I figured he would do it for many reasons, including being close to his son and be involved with his life.
Guess I was wrong. If USC and wife trump first son and home, not much to say.

Seriously at some point folks need to see reality. This has everything to do with Job security and the fickle nature of fans around these parts. This has to be the most delusional/Bi-Polar fan base on the planet. Everyone comes up with insane rumors whips everyone into a frenzy then when things don't work out everyone gets butt-hurt.

We expect coaches to come in and immediately compete for national championships. Realistically that is what competing for an SEC championship is lately. Look at the past 10 years.. The SEC is that hard at the top. We get turned down by coaches because this is a freaking scary job to take. There is little to no job security especially as an assistant. Until a head coach comes in here and stays 4 or 5 years getting top assistants is not going to be nearly as easy as people seem to think. Unless they all have buyouts. The only way any coach should take a job here is if they get a good buyout and even in Dooleys case that didn't matter because people around here are just that freaking insane.

We just paid a dude 5 mil so we could rebuild for 3 more years. Worst case he stays 2 more and we build up because we improved every year he was here. Switching the defense was a bad move that backfired but it would have evened out after another year or so. Now recruiting class got shot in the head. Guys that probably would have declared will almost certainly declare. If Bray and Hunter stay they are idiots. Learn a whole new offense and hope it works out?
What a ridiculous rant.

Most coaches don't work for one of the marquee programs in America and just moved 2,000 miles in the last 12 months.
you would have thought however T would have wanted to have been closer to his other son from another marriage who lives somewhere in the area.

Uh, yes it does.

BS, he was reached out to by his school and chose not to be a part of the the process to try to get back to the national stage. Its really smple, he chose Kiffin , job, and the bright lights of California over UT, He didnt want to do the 'hard work' and chose to keep the cozy job and that is fine. you can spin it all you want to.

It would be worse if he choose Bama. But, I can't stand Kiffey. If he were at UCLA under Mora with what they did this year and wanted to stay there, I would understand. But, if he was offered 350k, has a son in Knoxville, only been at USC for one year with scholly limits, and with the talent going 7-5 this year, I have no clue why he would not leave. I think he knows this so it makes sense his wife wants to stay in Cali. Could be for her career or not being close to the ex.

I have been told all women are crazy. You just have to make sure you marry one on the lower end of the crazy scale. Who knows wherehis wife fits into that. :)

But, if she was going to hate it here for whatever reason, probably makes sense he stays for the short run.

For the long run, it could be a bad move. He has to live with it so move on. But, if you think I will be cheering for USCw..........C'mon Man!
