Petrino to Arkansas

I agree. That's exactly what Saban did, but Saban waited until the bow was already under.

Saban didn't ruin Miami. They were leaps and bound better when he was running the show. They are just a crappy team with very few good players. That hasn't changed.

Personnel (not our guy, but all the others)... he ruined them.

Take a look at how they did when he got there. Take a look at who touched the ball 70% of the time on offense before Saban arrived. See if that guy was on the roster when Nick was in Miami. Now look at how bad they are this year.

I'm sure you've already started pissing your pants in fright.

No I'm not scared b/c I don't have to coach against Petrino - I'm sure Chavis and Phil are though. There outdated ideas won't hold up against Petrino's modern day ideas.

Just another better coach (than ours) coming into the league is basically all I was saying.

Personnel... QB. Check Saban's record on that one.

Imagine that, another doom and gloom post.

Do you think that Petrino and Saban will for a support group for their kind in the SECW? If they call Spurrier, they may be able to bring the two divisions together...a unity candle kind of ceremony or something...

Saban isn't a doctor. You've got either a QB that doctors tell you isn't good to go (Brees) or a pro-bowler. Dave Wannstedt ruined the Phins. They were ruined when Saban got there, he just managed to lift them up a bit. I'm sure they'd love to have him back now that Cam Cameron is letting everyone see how untalented that team is.

I disagree with that. Call someone in South Florida? Saban was under pressure when he left. Now, they know how bad he really screwed them.

They'll probably find someone else to replace Cam Cameron, but that's because good ole Nick lied to them and left on short notice at the smell of money in Alabama.

Well it's obvious that you are at least unbiased.

Hardly. The real truth probably lies somewhere between our positions, but I don't think Saban will ever be welcomed back to Miami.

Cam was quick, hasty hire. I don't think he was ever considered to be the long-term guy for them, but just bought them some time.

Loyalty.

Football progarms, NFL and CFB, keep paying these mercenary coaches a lot of money with great contracts and they just leave at the next best opportunity. What makes a program like Bammer or Arky think their golden child will be any more loyal to them than they were to their previous employer?

Petrino was making about 5M a yr for the falcons, blank puts on a good front for an owner and mckay is a solid GM, but the rest of that organization must be messed up to leave for less money in the CFBworld

He sure wasn't anything special this year. The Falcons' offensive players aren't very good, obviously, but I expected a guy who's supposed to be an offensive genius to figure out ways to put them in good spots so they can make plays. He didn't do that at all.

I don’t think his 1-year in Atlanta is any reflection on his coaching abilities. He was hired with the intent of using Vick in his spread offense. What he got was 3 stiffs in Harrington, Leftwich, and Redman.

When did you contribute anything? You go coach the Falcons, and show everyone a thing or two.

Actually, for what it's worth, I liked the contribution he made in the post you criticized.

These "up and coming" coaches cannot build a legacy on potential. At some point, they too have to produce results. And, when they fail, it's as fair to point that out as it is to tout how great they are before they've proven anything.

You're right about one thing. Coaching may not be as easy to do as it is to criticize. But, UT fans need not limit their criticism to our coaches to be good fans. Heck, there's plenty to attack in all these new guys who are going to 'revolutionize the game.'

Doing something no other team does and gives a team an advantage in the short run, but doing something that is sustainable is the true test of a coach. The former can be done moving every few years, but the later requires some stability.

I'll say it again (not in this thread but another)... no one can do much in the way of QBing the Falcons to anything with that mob they call an O-Line. I really think Harrington's gotten a bad rep cause of the situation's he's been in at Detroit and here in Atlanta. Including him with Leftwich and Redman is a bit harsh.

Joey can't seem to find a good team.

The Ravens might be a decent fit for him and visa versa. Somewhere where the QB isnt the focal point of the team. It's been that way in Atlanta for so long, everyone was so disappointed when he didnt turn out to be just like #7

It does seem like he could do better with the right situation. Anderson came out of nowhere with the Browns, but he's got a great supporting cast. Jamal looks great at times, they have a good line, and some good WR's.

Put Joey in a system like that and it seems he could do better. Maybe that's the Ravens, but the last two weeks of Ravens' ball were about like the Vols versus UGA and Bammer in back to back weeks.
