Potential Coaching Staff Members (list)

Al Wilson was a great player. A true leader on our defense but great players don't always make great coaches. If he had been coaching at a small college somewhere or as an NFL assistant LB's coach, I would be willing to give him a chance.

I understand your point and I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but, take a couple minutes and look up Mike Singletary on wikipedia. Read the section on his coaching experiences. 6 years after he first tried for a coaching position and was turned down for the same reasons, he's an NFL head coach. I think this would be the perfect place and time for CLK to make a major PR move for reuniting the fan base while taking a gamble on if it pans out or not. This will be the last time I bring it up, I'm not trying to PO anybody.

I agree it would be nice to bring back a former player/coach that brings a little nostalgia back to the team. As far as Mike Singletary goes, he was the Peyton Manning of Linebackers. This guy was the smartest linebacker in the game and very intense. Those types make great coaches. Do you know if Al Wilson even has an interest in coaching?

I think Al is selling houses in Atlanta right now.

I used to work with his brother a few years ago, nice guy.

If Al's career hadn't been cut short by injury, they might be talking about him in a few more years like you do of Singletary now. I think Peyton is to QB as Wilson is to LB, he just didn't get enough time to prove it before his career ended.

As far as his interest, I have no idea. I was just trying to kill the most birds I could with the one stone.
re-uniting fan base, minority hire, more passion on staff, not that it appears to be lacking, and alot easier on Hamiltons wallet.

Has anyone heard anything new about Gran? Earlier he sounded like a lock has something happened to change that opinion?

Wondering the same thing. Has he even interviewed anywhere else? It's like he's been promised a position, just don't know which one it is until after NC game and Gonzales is free to negotiate.

Ur right about Wilson's career. He was great in Denver. Too bad about the injury. Kiff must be waiting to interview another RB coach or something. Gran is a top 25 recruiter who should be on the road now bringing in talent. I haven't heard anything about Drayton recruiting either. Gran is would definitely be a great addition to the staff.

Football Scoop is reporting that Lloyd Lee will not return as LB coach for the Bears. Looks like he may join his good buddy Lane.

This makes sense and I think Lee is definately in play.... Lovie Smith is talking to Rod Marinelli and his son in law
about joining him in Chicago. Son in law Joe Barry was the Bucs Linebackers coach and if they go to Chicago, that puts Marinelli, Barry and Smith together again from the old Tampa days. Maybe the reason Lee is coming available.

Also, regarding Gus Bradley, it is reported in Tampa that Monte's Linebackers coach interviewed for the DC position at Seattle yesterday. Maybe reason he has not been added to the staff which was being rumored here a couple of weeks ago.

I like the Thompson fit, doubt Saban will give that up very easy. If we do go after him it would be a fight.IMO

Still, though, even if we were to go after Thompson and miss, Saban would likely have to give him a big raise to keep him and his other staff members.

Also, apparently, Darren Perry isn't completely out of the equation for DBs.

Not sure. I've heard Cleveland is going to talk to Lee. I would hope we would look at Thompson and Hughes/Perry for DBs. There are a few others at DB. Walton, McGriff, etc.
