Potential Coaching Staff Members (list)

I think the reason we haven't filled out our staff is that there are NFL coaches waiting see what the fallout will be from so many coaching changes. A lot of guys are interviewing for NFL positions. If for some reason they are not hired, then they will join our staff. Guys like Jeremy Bates who will probably stay in Denver, Brian Schneider, who is considered a very good ST's coach, and Bradley, who recently interviewed for DC in Seattle. Perry, Lake, Skipper, and Lee are also waiting for new coaches to make changes. Kiffin talked early on about bringing in several NFL coaches. I think he will bring in a couple more unless many of the guys he wanted would rather stay in the pros. I personally would like to see Gran (RB), Thompson (LB), Hughes (DB) and Gonzales (WR) on this staff but that only gives us one minority coach unless you count Coach O as being cajun!

Can someone explain why Gran being offered a position depends on Gonzo? All signs seem to be pointing to Drayton being retained:
1) from all accounts CLK and Drayton have formed a good working relationship on the recruiting trail,
2) Drayton should be able to have success in recruiting FL, and
3) let's stop beating around the bush and just say it, Drayton would be the only black coach, at least for now.

The only bummer is that Gran could coach ST as well. But I think I'd rather have Drayton retained and then pursue Schneider for LB and ST, giving:

HC- Lane Kiffin
OC/OL- Jim Chaney
QB- David Reaves
RB- Stan Drayton
WR- ? (hopefully Gonzo though it's doesn't seem likely)
TE- James Cregg
DC- Monte Kiffin
DL/RC- Ed Orgeron
LB/ST- Brian Schneider
DB- ?

That makes the most sense of any post I have heard.

I don't think we are waiting to fill are staff based on what Gonzales decides.

From day 1 Kiffin said he would be able to tell recruits that if you come to Tennessee you would be coached by the best there is.

Gonzalez has been on the radar from day one, I think Lane is holding on Gran, because he has Cregg which seems to be the filler for the position he can't get. Gonzalez is the only strong option rumored for WR at this point.

if we miss out on Gonzales could you see us hiring Gran and moving him or drayton to WR?

I think that is why we have not hired Gran yet. He sounds like a great addition, but with Gonzo he doesn't fit as well, cause I think Drayton stays.

Drayton was a RB in college and has only coached RBs, so it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to move him to WRs. Gran however was a WR in college and has thrice coached WRs, so it would make a lot more sense to have him as WR/ST coach and Drayton as RB coach if we keep both.

If I were to guess, CLK has been waiting on Gran for that reason. If Gonzo comes for WR, then I think Gran is out. Either way it's looking like Drayton will retained as the RB coach.

Hubbs mentioned that Chaney and Gran might have talked in the past few days.

Hubbs said if he couldn't get Schnieder it would be Gran because he wants someone for ST. He did say he wanted to make a run at Gonzo though.

He would more than likely end up with LB's as well as ST. He has coached alot of positions in the past. Going back to Colorado St. Seems like Colorado St is a common theme going on here. I think Gonzales has Colorado St. ties as well as Drayton.

Gonzo played there, I think.

Had heard Lane may make a run at Thompson after missing Garner.

Sorry, wasn't very clear was it.

What I meant was, would he hire him for just ST, or would he coach a position as well.
According to Hubbs.

That's okay. :good!:

From what I gather from Hubbs' posts, he hasn't really mentioned Gran in connection with another coaching position + special teams...just ST. BUT he did mention tonight that Chaney and Gran may have talked recently, so things are still fluid (IMO).
