Reportedly Middleton turned down a pretty hefty contract. I'm not too sad... it would have been an awkward fit, similar to Garner.

Only thing I've seen new on Gonzo is apparently CLK is after him pretty hard, but no one feels good about anything happening.

I think James Lofton would be a good hire for WR coach but CLK probably has bigger things in mind.

I would say that Lofton has zero percent chance of coming here. He was hired by Al Davis at Oakland...not Lane.

Yeah, but that was 20 years ago. Not sure that he would want to leave CBD for that. We could possibly have Blake with DTs or DEs and O with the other. Monte'd either have to take DBs or we'd have to move things around on offense. That'd mean that Reaves may take WRs and QBs or Lane would have to take one of the two positions. Imagine a staff like this:

HC/QBs(or WRs)-Lane
OC/OL(or TEs)-Chaney
WRs(or QBs)-Reaves
RBs/STs-Gran
TEs(or OL)-Cregg

DC-Monte
DEs(or DTs)/RC-Orgeron
DTs(or DEs)-Blake
LBs-Thompson
DBs-Perry

Holy cow! Or Cregg could take OL and TEs, Chaney take QBs, and Reaves take WRs, leaving a slot open for DBs.

I don't care who you are...but if we added Gran, Blake, or Gonzo or a combo of the 2 or god forbid for the rest of the nation...all 3, you would have to bow down to the hill.

That is about as good as it could get in my opinion. Thompson was a huge pull. Blake would be as well.

I was hoping we would go after Thompson, and even if we did I thought it would be a hard sell. Looks like Saban made it easier for us. A couple more solid hires and I am totally pleased with what Lane did.

I thought 2 weeks ago that Thompson was a pipe dream.

And as far as the staff...Lane could hire pygmies for the remaining openings and I would be pleased with the direction of the program.

I started thinking about the strategy of just stealing everyone's ace recruiters and I thought to myself, "Hmm...I wonder who Alabama's ace is?"

That was about two days ago.

I looked him up and thought, "It'd be nice to have him."

Put him out of my mind and woke up this morning and he was ours----just that easy.

We've gotta keep packing this pipe everyone says doesn't exist.
