I don't think it would be Hughes. Look for the next hire to be Gran or Gonzales. He wants someone else for FL recruiting and the other hire will be someone with strong ties to VA/D.C./Maryland areas.

This is a name that could come up. Chris Beatty. He has coached RB and WR. He is from Hampton VA. Has really been a strong recruiter in VA for West Virginia and he is an ETSU grad.

I guess that means Gonzo thing wil finially be over. We could have used Gran the last month on the staff recruiting.

Do you think Gonzo is the reason we held off on Gran?

I really like Hughes as well. He is a good coach and he is an excellent recruiter. If he can get top players at Southern Miss, imagine what he can do here.

Another possibilty is rumored to be Tommy Thigpen per.Rivals. It fits he has recruited VA/D.C./Maryland areas and has coached secondary before. Coaches LB's now though. I don't think he is as good a recruiter as Beaty @ WV at least in VA. But it would be a pretty nice hire.

It could have been..

Another thing to remember too though is that Drayton has been recruiting Marlon Brown since day 1....they have held on as long as possible to give the rest of the staff time to build a relationship with him.

Great point,
I really didn't think of it that way. But it is pretty clear Marlon Brown is #1 on Kiffin's board. He really wants him.

Perry or Hughes at DB..and Guidry still has an interview coming up. But I'd say it's Perry or Hughes. Right now I'd give Perry the slight edge.

WR is still up in the air. I think Gonzo is still CLK's favorite. But the longer it goes the less chance I think it is we get him. Beatty and Roth are the only other names that have had significant weight to them. Cignetti was also thought to be, but I think is unlikely. Can't count anything out though with the way Lane has built the staff so far though.

Yea...and the big 3 all mentioned him in their press conferences...which was the first step in building the relationship.

What kid wouldn't want to be mentioned on national tv by 3 tremendous coaches on the first press conference?

What is the deal with Perry? Was he let go by the Raiders? Anymore NFL interviews?

He would be a great fit since everything I hear is he has strong ties to the Tidewater area of VA. Which as you can probably tell from my other posts. I think that is the key thing with at least one of the next hires.

The thing that does worry me about Perry is he could easily stay in the NFL if that is what he wants. His resume is impressive, and he could land on his feet at a number of places.

And as far as leaving the Raiders...he left on his own.

You have to be way off on Thigpen,,, because he has not recruited anyone from TIDEWATER VIRGINIA -- just kiddin!

Some new DB coaches have been added... and yes I know Frank Wilson has been on Miss States staff for a couple weeks... he is still a candidate for DB coach...

I have heard today as well. I will know by the end of the day if my source will keep his cred, or if he will he dropped to clueless status...
