Preseason top 25.

Using your logic, bama should have beat us by 40 and florida should have run up the score.

Bama didnt have one of their worst performances against us. it was an average alabama performance at worst. Florida wasnt close to as good as anyone thought they were. That wasnt a great performance by us at all.

You don't get it do you? This is why your top 25 is being critiqued, and your getting all sore about it.

Football is not about spurious correlations, and supposed talent. Its about the 60 minutes of football you play with your opponent. Probabilities prior to the game only serve as fodder for so called soothsayers, such as yourself. Being better on paper doesn't matter at all, once the clock starts.

yet he has oregon #2 whose talent ranks around 4th in the pac-10 by star rating and probably barely in the top-25 in the country.

Ok the better team wins every game right? so why then does team a beat team b team b beats team c and team c beats team a. Obviously the better team does not win every game.

he's not saying transitive property applies

what he's saying was - yes there are plenty of teams that could beat the other one 6,7,8, or 9 out of 10 times they played - but once that game's played and if they lose, it really becomes a moot point. they lost

It's like 2004 UGA-UT. Most likely you play that game 10 times and UGA wins about 8 or 9; but when the two played they didn't. And - even if it was just because UT got UGA sleeping - it was that one game which was actually played that mattered, and it mattered and counted much more than the hypotheticals. They beat them. the end

if they are more talented shouldn't they be better "at their best." this is what we are talking about right? or are you implying that tenn played great D at times becuase of their coaching?

No because they couldnt play defense. You have to show that you can play. I like the way you left out the rest of my post that answered this dumb question.

south carolina always seems to be top heavy and a few always seem to not qualify. i'd be willing to bet if you look at their average star rating for their entire roster that a lot of teams (cal [since our buddy thinks cal sucks], ucla, tenn) would be a lot higher.

They also had a stout defense, one of the conference's best at WR, and a dangerous, if inconsistent, QB. I still don't see where UT had much of a measurable advantage.

aren't they the only ones in the east returning a starting QB as well?

and how do you decide if a team is playing great defense if they don't do it consistantly? how do you know the supposed great d isn't a) luck or b) the other team playing like crap?

None of that makes sense.

Yes they did.

Florida went 13-1, and kicked the pants off another Conference Champion. That's one game away from perfection. How good did you think they were going to be?

And yet they won the pac 10 title by 2 games last yr with talent.

the pac-10 was GARBAGE last year AND they had all their hard games at home. how many times do i have to repeat this before it sinks in? you are expecting them to be BETTER than last year despite a new qb and all their tough games on the road and the pac-10 returning 7 starting qbs.

Talent is not the point. Georgia can be more talented all day. But the fact remains that they could not play defense last yr. We on the other hand played at an elite level at one multiple times on both sides of the ball. Georgia never played defense at an elite level and played it terribly half the time

It is no wonder that we didn't beat anybody better than us and lost to two inferior teams. UT was obviously elite, as good as Bama and Florida, and could therefore only lose to equals.

That's odd, because I thought we sort of sucked and actually did pretty well to scrape out 7 wins, beating everybody we were supposed to, plus one we weren't in UGa, and going 1-1 in the toss-ups.

obviously preseason they were supposed to transcend humanity into godhood

Don't try and confuse him anymore than he already is with facts.

but that doesn't fit the argument that our OLine is going to be above average and a W over Oregon changes the world. Any L to Oregon would be a good result too, since they're one of the best teams of the past couple decades.

Hey you have to have a little positivity to get you through the off season.

BOP1 let me ask you this question. Alabama and Florida are at least a few years better than us in talent. Out of the following teams on our schedule this year who are we better than?

Georgia
USCjr
LSU
Ole Miss

This should be good

We will beat Oregon at home with Wilcox doing another masterful job.

Whether or not after they lose to us they go on like UCLA did and have a great season, I am not sure.

I do know that the Pac 10 and the SEC are playing each other once this upcoming regular season, and TN is beating Oregon with a much better defense talent wise under the direction of a young and brilliant coordinator who knows he makes his reputation and his recruiting life much easier by beating them.

If UT finishes with 4-5 SEC losses and beats Oregon, I hope Oregon does not lose a single Pac 10 game.

D Roski will still be on here saying the Pac 10 is awesome...

just curious, but how could Boise lose such an awesome D coordinator in Wilcox, yet have such a huge ranking? What gives?

FTR, I think we'll beat Oregon at our house as well, but it's not just about our D coordinator.

You think we have a shot at beating Oregon and Florida in back to back games?

Why do you just assume we have no shot? People need to stop putting florida up on a pedestal like they are some almighty unbeatable team. The game is in Neyland Stadium. Yes, we have a shot to win. We may not be the favorite, but we have a shot to win whether you like it or not. Gah.. have a little faith man.

VOLS!!

BigOrangePassion, may I ask you a question? I assume you say yes.

For the record, I'm trying to help.

Are you constantly upset with the state of the world, country, college football? I ask, because if I lived my life according to what I THINK SHOULD happen, I'd be damn near miserable all the time. Life doesn't work this way. Events happen, whether you want them to or not, whether they were likely or unlikely, they happen. You understand that just because YOU THINK something SHOULD happen doesn't actually increase the probability that it will, right?

It doesnt make sense? So florida was as good as offensively as you and everyone else thought they would be? really?

anyone that knew any football could have predicted the offensive decline, but everyone knew the defense would be standout, and it was.
